IBM® MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer for multiplatforms extends its IBM Universal Messaging capabilities with broader options for managed file transfer. In addition to the existing MQ-based managed file transfer capability, previously called WebSphere® MQ Managed File Transfer, you now gain access to the following separately installable file transfer components:

These optional capabilities provide an alternate file transport through Sterling Connect:Direct and a managed file transfer monitoring console by using Sterling Control Center. Entitlement to Managed File Transfer with MQ or MQ Advanced provides entitlement to all Managed File Transfer components, even if only the MQ-based managed file transfer capability is used. This combined entitlement is now described as WebSphere Managed File Transfer.

MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer delivers a comprehensive solution for universal messaging and managed file transfer. It enables the rapid, reliable, and secure transport of messages and files between applications, systems, and services.

MQ is the leading, message-oriented middleware product that delivers a reliable, proven universal messaging backbone for almost 10,000 organizations of different sizes that span many industries around the world.

MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer extends the existing WebSphere MQ V7.5 release, as well as WebSphere MQ Advanced V7.5, by including additional managed file transfer capabilities through entitlement for Connect:Direct-based file transfers. It also provides entitlement for a managed file transfer console, Control Center, that monitors both MQ-based and Connect:Direct- based file transfers. Together, these new capabilities, along with the existing MQ Managed File Transfer form a comprehensive managed file transfer service to extend the universal messaging offered by MQ.

Note: WebSphere MQ for z/OS®, V7.1 is not updated in this release of MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer for multiplatforms.

Customers who currently run WebSphere MQ V6.0, V7.0.1, or V7.1 can obtain the new additional managed file transfer functions that are offered in MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer, by migrating directly to MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer. This is subject to appropriate entitlement. There is no requirement to move up through incremental releases.

The key new feature of MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer is the inclusion of optional, managed file transfer capabilities that were previously available as separate products. Sterling Connect:Direct and Sterling Control Center, are now available for optional installation as additional managed file transfer components for customers with entitlement to the Managed File Transfer components of WebSphere MQ or WebSphere MQ Advanced. Use of these new capabilities, subject to appropriate licensing entitlement, is included in entitlement for MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer. MQ V7.5 with Sterling Managed File Transfer queue managers gain access to these additional managed file transfer capabilities through separate product installs.

MQ delivers a comprehensive messaging and managed file transfer solution. MQ with Sterling Managed File Transfer extends the managed file transfer features available to you by including entitlement to Connect:Direct-based transfers and Control Center monitoring that were previously available as separate offerings.

Extended managed file transfer options

MQ already includes MQ-based managed file transfer based on MQ MFT technology that was previously marketed as WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition (FTE). This update extends the managed file transfer transports available to you by including entitlement to use Sterling Connect:Direct as an additional or alternative file transport technology. The managed file transfer capability of both MQ and Sterling Connect:Direct includes a file transfer bridge that enables file transfers to be automatically exchanged between these two transport layers using a common file system.

Customers using both managed file transfer technologies can move files across and between the two environments, and importantly maintain a consistent audit record of the transfer. Files are deposited from one environment and picked up by the other environment. The audit trail contains the matching records from both environments allowing for a single review to validate the successful movement of files.

Now MQ customers can opt to deploy MQ-based or Connect:Direct-based file transfer capabilities or a mixture of the two. This is especially useful for customers who already have a mix of these transports within their enterprise.

Extended file transfer monitoring

MQ already includes monitoring for MQ-based managed file transfers using the MQ Explorer tool that is included and entitled with the product. This update provides the code for you to install the Sterling Control Center console in order to monitor both MQ-based transfers and Connect:Direct transfers from a single tool, subject to entitlement. This is especially useful for customers who have or plan to deploy a mix of these two file transports within their enterprise.

Deployment and entitlement options

You might have files or a need for the data in files anywhere in your enterprise infrastructure. To meet this flexible deployment requirement, both MQ managed file transfer capabilities and Sterling Connect:Direct functions can be deployed anywhere in your enterprise, acting as an endpoint in a managed file transfer flow, or a file transfer hub, or as part of a messaging bus moving files anywhere in the enterprise. The combined managed file transfer capability entitlement available with MQ and in MQ Advanced can be purchased for deployment in a number of ways.

Customers who buy MQ can also separately buy entitlement to WebSphere Managed File Transfer Service. With this entitlement customers can deploy the MQ Managed File Transfer Service component of MQ, allowing deployment of the managed file transfer capability onto a deployed MQ Server.

Customers who previously have entitlement to MQ Managed File Transfer Service with MQ V7.5, or as part of MQ Advanced, will have their entitlement migrated to WebSphere Managed File Transfer Service in a 1:1 ratio.

As part of the WebSphere Managed File Transfer Service entitlement, there is also entitlement to deploy Sterling Connect:Direct and Sterling Control Center. Your entitlement to deploy Sterling Connect:Direct allows you to exchange files over multiple sessions with other instances of Sterling Connect:Direct. Your entitlement to Sterling Control Center allows both MQ Managed File Transfer Service and Sterling Connect:Direct deployments to be monitored in Sterling Control Center.

Separate from deployments of MQ, there may be a need to access files from endpoints, where there might not be a MQ server deployment, or there may be a need to exchange files with a smaller number of other endpoints. For these cases you can purchase entitlement to WebSphere Managed File Transfer Managed Endpoints. This entitlement allows you to deploy both a MQ Managed File Transfer Agent and single session of Sterling Connect:Direct. Whether one or both offerings are deployed, Sterling Control Center entitlement is included to provide monitoring for the file transfers. Additional WebSphere Managed File Transfer Managed Endpoint Sessions can be purchased to extend the deployment options for this Sterling Connect:Direct endpoint with additional Sterling Connect:Direct sessions for connections to other Sterling Connect:Direct deployments.

WebSphere Managed File Transfer Managed Endpoints use an Install pricing metric. This replaces the Client Device metric that was previously used with MQ Managed File Transfer Agents. Customers with existing entitlements to IBM MQ Managed File Transfer Agents will be provided with replacement entitlements to WebSphere Managed File Transfer Managed Endpoints with a 1:1 ratio.

Note: Entitlement to WebSphere Managed File Transfer Service or WebSphere Managed File Transfer Managed Sessions does not include any entitlement to MQ.

Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Subscription and Support (SW S&S) renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. Install

Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each install of the program.

Simultaneous Session

Simultaneous Session is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. A session is an active file transfer or other active communications connection between the Program running on one physical or virtual computer and any software running on another physical or virtual computer. Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover the highest number of sessions that are or have been simultaneously in existence across all instances or copies of the Program.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the web page below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes

Processor Value Unit (PVU) sub-capacity licensing

This software product is eligible for sub-capacity licensing. Customers must accept the terms of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (Attachment), and must obtain PVU Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) for the maximum processor core capacity available to an eligible sub-capacity product when deployed in an eligible virtualization environment. This is also referred to as sub-capacity or virtualization capacity licensing.

Customers must use the IBM License Metric Tool unless they meet the exceptions described in the Attachment.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Software Subscription and Support applies

Yes. Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Servers enabled with this tool can be monitored remotely around the clock by IBM Support, all at no additional cost to you.

Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX V5.3, AIX V6.1, and AIX V7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM, which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type smitty esa_main, and select Configure Electronic Service Agent. In addition, ESA now includes a powerful web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24x7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool securely transmits via either the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide you a single point of exit from your site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into your system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewable only by you and IBM. Your business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM.

More accurate reporting: Because system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, you are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, you can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with your IBM ID. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, you are able to see search results that apply specifically to your systems.
