IBM Security Host Protection V2.2.2 delivers a wide array of capabilities that support the demands of compliance requirements and the security technology to support a robust threat management strategy.
IBM Security Host Protection helps protect your systems from malicious attacks while supporting the organization's compliance mandates. The offering provides realtime file, registry, and system integrity monitoring to help alert security teams to changes in specified files and folders. Benefits enable enterprises to maintain control of data access points and monitor changes to confidential data. Additionally, application controls (available on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP supported platforms only) can lock down user access to programs that can be used to take control of a server.
IBM Security Host Protection provides an additional layer of defense inside the network firewall to help stop internal and external system attacks before the threat can breach a system and result in data loss or theft, and before an attacker can compromise its critical data.
IBM Security Host Protection helps:
Some host protection solutions provide intrusion prevention signatures in addition to a local firewall. Much like antivirus signatures, signature-based intrusion prevention works well against known threats, but can be useless against unknown exploits. Preemptive protection, based on a combination of vulnerability-centric intrusion prevention coupled with other protection technologies, is designed to keep valuable systems ahead of the threat.
Preemptive threat prevention
IBM security solutions, including IBM Security Host Protection V2.2.2, provide preemptive protection with security offerings for network, servers, desktops, and notebooks. Vulnerability-centric intrusion prevention from IBM has helped protect against network-borne threats such as worms, viruses, spyware, and malicious attacks for many years.
A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) containing details on accessibility compliance can be requested at
IBM Security Host Protection V2.2.2 provides a scalable, high-performance, advanced intrusion defense and host security solution. It is flexible enough to provide significant value for both medium and large organizations. IBM Security Host Protection's preemptive protection approach to host security allows IBM Security Host Protection to detect both known and unknown threats. In the evolving IT security threat landscape, attackers continuously search for new ways not only to disrupt system operation, but also to gain unauthorized access to sensitive, valuable data for personal gain. IBM Security Host Protection's capability to help protect against unknown and emerging threats differentiates it from a reactive, signature-based approach.

Licensing metric definitions and pricing examples
Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each Install of the program.
Client Device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Client Device is a single user computing device, communications device, special purpose sensor or telemetry device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from or provides data to another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. A Client Device may have some processing capability or be programmable to allow a user to do work. Licensee must obtain entitlements for every Client Device which runs, provides data to, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the program and for every other computer or server on which the Program is installed.
IBM Security Host Protection V2.2.2 is priced by the number of Installs and Client Devices. Each server installation and desktop client requires one entitlement of IBM Security Host Protection
Assume customer ABC plans to install IBM Security Host Protection on 50 servers in their enterprise environment.
Customer ABC would need to order 50 IBM Security Host Protection Install entitlements to entitle their current environment.
Customer ABC is looking to expand their enterprise environment from 50 server installations by adding 150 desktop clients. The customer now requires Install entitlements for 50 IBM Security Host Protection and 150 Client Device entitlements for IBM Security Host Protection
Customer already has Install entitlements for 50 IBM Security Host Protection for the server installations. Customer ABC would need to order an additional 150 IBM Security Host Protection Client Device entitlements to entitle their new environment.

Statement of good security practices
IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered destroyed or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
IBM Electronic Services
IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.
The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM . Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
