The Trellis Real-time Infrastructure Optimization Platform (Trellis platform) is a real-time optimization platform that enables the unified management of your data center's IT and facilities infrastructure. It delivers excellent insight and action to help achieve optimal data center performance. The Trellis platform gathers vast amounts of real-time information from IT and facility devices and consolidates it into a simple, meaningful view. It enables your data center to operate more cost effectively and more efficiently.
The Trellis platform gathers and aggregates millions of data points from distributed environments and heterogeneous equipment (such as IT and facilities) in real time, applies rules to discern previously undetected patterns and trends, and ultimately presents this information in context.
The Trellis platform gives you comprehensive insight into data center facilities loading and the impact that changes to IT will produce. The Trellis platform monitors the data center, automates controls, and helps your staff make the right decisions.
The Trellis platform helps those responsible for the data center at various levels obtain better visibility and control over their critical infrastructures, inspiring confidence through continuity and control. It helps you receive real information in real time from across various infrastructure components, and maps the interaction between these components.
The Trellis Real-time Infrastructure Optimization Platform (Trellis platform) software is corequisite with the Avocent Universal Management Gateway 6000, a hardware device. For more information on this hardware or for ordering information, consult with your IBM representative or and authorized IBM Business Partner.

Trellis consists of software-based applications running on a common platform to control data consistency and aggregation. Its corequisite is an intelligent appliance called Universal Management Gateway 6000 that collects and filters telemetry and alerts from connected devices and that enables access and control of equipment if needed. The software applications manage data center physical inventory and enable intelligence and insight into the operation of power and cooling systems. They also assess the consumption of energy by application or virtual machine.
This framework of software and hardware systems enables Trellis to collect massive amounts of data, filter and aggregate that data, and deliver meaningful information to users through Tivoli® system and tools.
The Emerson Trellis platform is a real-time data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solution. It gathers vast amounts of real-time information from IT and facility devices and consolidates it into a simple, meaningful view, enabling the data center to operate more cost effectively and more efficiently.

Two server class machines are required for deployment of the Trellis platform software. In this minimum deployment, one machine hosts the front-end application servers and the second machine hosts the database servers and back-end services such as authentication.
The following are the current minimum hardware requirements to install and operate the Trellis platform:
Note: The Trellis platform installers are delivered on DVDs that may be extracted directly to the servers or to a shared network. Because the installation files on each DVD must first be copied to each of the previously mentioned front and back machines, the DVD or USB drive must be accessible from both the front and back machines.
A Microsoft Windows-based client workstation, adhering to the following operating systems browser requirements, is needed for the Avocent Professional Services representative to perform the Trellis platform installation. The Trellis platform front- and back-end servers must be accessible from this workstation.
The recommended minimum screen resolution is 1280 x 1024.
Supported operating systems:
Supported browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 8
Note: Version 2.0 of Trellis will also support:
Required extension: Adobe Flash Player v10.1+
A client PC with an installed web browser can be used to access the front server UI. With privileges, you can access and administer the servers, managed appliances and target devices.
Target devices encompass a wide range of data center components, such as servers and routers. An administrator can manage components through the software.
The program's specifications and specified operating environment information may be found in documentation accompanying the program, if available, such as a README file, or other information published by IBM , such as an announcement letter. Documentation and other program content may be supplied only in the English language.
The program in this announcement will be orderable through IBM . The software order will be sent to Emerson for fulfillment to the customer.

Emerson Network Power Trellis Real-time Infrastructure Optimization Platform licensing metric definitions and pricing example:
Rack is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A rack is defined as a piece of hardware that is designed and built for the explicit purpose of containing IT equipment including but not limited to servers, storage, switches, power distribution units, uninterruptible power supplies, management consoles, and cabling. Licensee must obtain entitlements for the total number of racks accessed or managed by the program.
Standby or backup systems
For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations: cold, warm and hot. In cold and warm situations, a separate entitlement for the copy on the backup machine is normally not required and typically no additional charge applies. In a hot backup situation, the customer needs to acquire other license or entitlements sufficient for that server. All programs running in backup mode must be solely under the customer's control, even if running at another enterprise's location.
As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the program used for backup purposes:
Cold: A copy of the program may reside, for backup purposes, on a machine as long as the program is not started. There is no additional charge for this copy.
Warm: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is idling, and is not doing any work of any kind. There is no additional charge for this copy.
Hot: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine is started, and is doing work. The customer must acquire a license or an entitlement for this copy and there will generally be an additional charge.
Doing work includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities, such as mirroring of transactions; updating of files; synchronization of programs, data or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource); or any activity or configurations that would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch over between programs, databases, or other resources to occur.
In the case of a program or system configuration that is designed to support a high-availability environment by using various techniques (for example, duplexing; mirroring of files or transactions maintaining a heartbeat; and active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource), the program is considered to be doing work in the hot situation and a license or entitlement must be purchased.
Emerson Trellis Realtime Infrastructure Optimization Platform
The Emerson Trellis Realtime Infrastructure Optimization Platform is a stand-alone vendor solution that does not need to be used in combination with other Tivoli products.
This product is licensed per rack. A data center rack is standard data center equipment designed and built to contain IT equipment including but not limited to servers, storage, switches, power distribution units, uninterruptible power supplies, management consoles, and cabling.
A data center is managed by four data center administrators, one data center manager, and one IT director; it has 200 racks. The following licensing scheme applies:
Quantity License in customer entitlements Pricing metric environment required Rack 200 200
Resource Value Unit (RVU)
RVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. RVU Proofs of Entitlement are based on the number of units of a specific resource used or managed by the program. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements for the number of RVUs required for licensee's environment for the specific resources as specified in the program specific table. RVU entitlements are specific to the program and the type of resource and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with RVU entitlements of another program or resource. Refer to the program specific RVU table.

|Statement of good security practices|
IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered destroyed or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
