With the acquisition of StoredIQ® , IBM advances its Information Lifecycle Governance effort to help you derive value from big data, increase the efficiency with which you respond to litigation and regulations, and increase the scope of data that is disposed after it has outlived its purpose.

IBM Information Lifecycle Governance offerings give you tools to help manage legal, regulatory, and IT policies that govern the lifecycle of information and enforce these policies in an automated and highly scalable way, including the timely disposal of unnecessary data that consumes infrastructure and elevates risk. The new IBM Information Lifecycle Governance offerings, IBM eDiscovery Identification and Collection V7.5, IBM Policy Assessment and Compliance V7.5, IBM Desktop Data Collector V7.5, and IBM Unstructured Data Identification and Management V7.5, increase the scope of data that can be more effectively governed, and the scale and efficiency with which eDiscovery, retention, and disposal policies can be automated and enforced.

In addition, these offerings provide scalable in-place analysis and management of disparate and distributed email, file shares, desktops, and collaboration sites. They can rapidly help analyze high volumes of unstructured data and collect relevant subsets for legal or regulatory reasons, as well as dispose of files and emails in compliance with regulatory requirements.

IBM eDiscovery Identification and Collection V7.5

eDiscovery Identification and Collection is designed to deliver in-place data identification and data collection capabilities that can result in more predictable legal costs and reduced risks. Legal teams can identify potentially relevant information to a given matter and provide forensically sound and defensible collections.

IBM Policy Assessment and Compliance V7.5

Policy Assessment and Compliance is designed to help enforce information governance policies across a multitude of enterprise data sources. Privacy teams can spot and remediate compliance violations, records teams can uncover documents with retention requirements, and IT teams can clean up data that has no value to the business.

IBM Desktop Data Collector V7.5

Desktop Data Collector is designed to enable you to apply corporate governance policies to end-user desktops. Users can identify corporate records or custodian data for legal matters and collect them to a central repository in an efficient manner built for devices with intermittent connectivity.

IBM Unstructured Data Identification and Management V7.5

Unstructured Data Identification and Management can help you understand and analyze your data in place, identify relevant subsets, and then apply the right policies at the right time.

Description
Bottom rule

The IBM Information Lifecycle Governance portfolio, which helps improve information economics, now includes the following new offerings:

eDiscovery Identification and Collection V7.5

eDiscovery Identification and Collection can significantly help accelerate strategic legal decisions by giving legal teams the ability to investigate potentially case relevant data prior to collection from a multitude of data sources across the enterprise. Legal users can:

Visual analysis of identified data can give users the power to make detailed culling decisions so that the smallest legally defensible set of data can be collected.

The collection process can be time consuming and fraught with manual handoffs, exceptions, and errors. When eDiscovery Identification and Collection is used in conjunction with IBM Atlas eDiscovery, enterprises gain an environment in which legal and IT teams can work together to identify relevant data and make culling decisions across a multitude of enterprise data sources and then provide forensically sound collections in an audited and legally defensible manner, all while dealing with any exceptions that occur.

Policy Assessment and Compliance V7.5

Policy Assessment and Compliance can aid in multiple aspects of an enterprise's governance practice. With the ability to perform metadata, full-text, and incremental indexes over a multitude of enterprise data sources, users can quickly determine where policy issues may exist, including privacy and security violations, legacy data accumulation, and improper records management.

Policy Assessment and Compliance provides advanced visualizations and reports to help users better understand their data, hone in on policy issues, and quickly take action. Once identified, an intelligent policy engine enables users to take the required action, whether copying it to a centralized repository, moving it to a more secure location or disposing of it immediately. All actions are audited and paired with detail on what filters were utilized to help identify files for action.

Policy Assessment and Compliance is a companion product to IBM Global Retention Policy and Schedule Management, which helps Records Management organizations define, update, and propagate effective retention and defensible disposition schedules.

In addition, Policy Assessment and Compliance can:

Desktop Data Collector V7.5

Desktop Data Collector is a Microsoft Windows™ agent that aids in the collection of data from user desktops for eDiscovery or records purposes. Agents can be deployed by utilizing standard IT tools. Once installed, Desktop Data Collector will periodically check in for tasks such as indexing or collecting data from a given desktop. Central administration gives users the ability to schedule indexing, analyze data, and apply policies globally, all without interrupting knowledge workers from their daily tasks.

In addition, Desktop Data Collector can:

Unstructured Data Identification and Management V7.5

Unstructured Data Identification and Management includes integration of all of the features and function of the following products:

Unstructured Data Identification and Management helps organizations understand and analyze their data in place, identify relevant subsets, and then take action. By providing a powerful, massively scalable platform for unstructured data management, it can help organizations gain visibility and control over unstructured data to help meet their eDiscovery, records management, governance, compliance, and storage requirements.

A tradeup to Unstructured Data Identification and Management is available from eDiscovery Identification and Collection and Policy Assessment and Compliance. Refer to the Ordering information section for ordering detail.

Application
 stack 1 2 GB 20 GB (OS)

Note 1: As a general guideline, the number of objects per data server should not exceed approximately 50 to 80 million objects. Assuming an average object size of 250 KB, this equals approximately 10 to 20 terabytes (TB) of managed storage. The index storage requirement for metadata on approximately 10 TB of managed storage is approximately 300 GB (30 GB per TB). Add approximately 170 GB per TB of managed storage for full-text index. For example, to support 10 TB of storage for both metadata and full-text indexes, 2 TB of storage is required.

Note 2: Data server performance is significantly impacted by the input/output operations per second (IOPS) available from the storage subsystem. For each data server under maximum workload, at least 650 IOPS generally delivers acceptable performance. Six 10K RPM Serial Attached Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) drives in a RAID 10 configuration can usually be expected to deliver at least 650 IOPS.

Resource Value Unit (RVU) pricing

The pricing for IBM eDiscovery Identification and Collection, IBM Policy Assessment and Compliance, and IBM Unstructured Data Identification and Management is based on RVUs. RVU scaling is a step-tiered model. This means each quantity tier must be multiplied by the scaling factor for that tier, and the RVU quantities for each tier must be added together to calculate the total RVU quantity. RVU quantities must be calculated separately for each chargeable component, and any fractional RVU totals are rounded up to the next whole number.

The Resources for the purpose of RVU calculation are terabytes managed by the program. A terabyte is 2 to the 40th power bytes. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements to cover the total number of terabytes managed by the program.

Resource Value Unit conversion table

From 1 to 12 Resources, 1.00 RVU per Resource
From 13 to 32 Resources, 12 RVUs plus .84 RVUs per Resource above 12
From 33 to 64 Resources, 28.8 RVUs plus .61 RVUs per Resource above 32
From 65 to 100 Resources, 48.32 RVUs plus .46 RVUs per Resource above 64
From 101 to 250 Resources, 64.88 RVUs plus .38 RVUs per Resource above 100
For more than 250 Resources, 121.88 RVUs plus .30 RVUs per Resource above 250

User Value Unit (UVU) pricing

The pricing for IBM Desktop Data Collector is based on UVUs. UVU scaling is a step-tiered model. This means each quantity tier must be multiplied by the scaling factor for that tier, and the UVU quantities for each tier must be added together to calculate the total UVU quantity. Any fractional UVU totals are rounded up to the next whole number.

The User for the purpose of UVU calculation is an Authorized User. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements to cover the total number of Authorized Users given access to the program.

User Value Unit conversion table

From 1 to 20 Users, 1.00 UVU per User
From 21 to 50 Users, 20 UVUs plus .83 UVUs per User above 20
From 51 to 100 Users, 44.9 UVUs plus .80 UVUs per User above 50
From 101 to 250 Users, 84.9 UVUs plus .76 UVUs per User above 100
From 251 to 500 Users, 198.9 UVUs plus .60 UVUs per User above 250
From 501 to 1,000 Users, 348.9 UVUs plus .50 UVUs per User above 500
From 1,001 to 5,000 Users, 598.9 UVUs plus .47 UVUs per User above 1,000
From 5,001 to 10,000 Users, 2,478.9 UVUs plus .40 UVUs per User above 5,000

Terabyte

Terabyte is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A terabyte is 2 to the 40th power bytes. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each terabyte of storage available to the program.

Note: Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only . In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain terabyte entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the storage managed by the program.

Authorized User

An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the entitlement to another person.

User Value Unit (UVU)

UVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. UVU Proofs of Entitlement (PoES) are based on the number and type of users for the given program. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements for the number of UVUs required for licensee's environment as specified in the program specific table. The UVU entitlements are specific to the program and type of user and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with UVU entitlements of another program or type of user. Refer to the program specific UVU table.

Resource Value Unit (RVU)

RVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. RVU PoEs are based on the number of units of a specific resource used or managed by the program. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements for the number of RVUs required for licensee's environment for the specific resources as specified in the program specific table. RVU entitlements are specific to the program and the type of resource and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with RVU entitlements of another program or resource. Refer to the program specific RVU table.

Note: Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only . In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the resources used by the program directly, licensee must obtain entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the resources managed by the program.

IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Handbook at

http://www.ibm.com/support/handbook

Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered destroyed or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

Electronic Service Agent™ and the IBM Electronic Support web portal are dedicated to providing fast, exceptional support to IBM Systems customers. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Servers enabled with this tool can be monitored remotely around the clock by IBM Support all at no additional cost to you.

Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX® V5.3, AIX V6.1, and AIX V7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM , which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type smitty esa_main, and select Configure Electronic Service Agent . In addition, ESA now includes a powerful Web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. For more information and documentation on how to configure and use Electronic Service Agent , refer to

http://www.ibm.com/support/electronic

The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24 x 7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM . The Electronic Service Agent tool securely transmits either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewable only by the customer and IBM . The customer's business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM .

More accurate reporting: Since system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, customers are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM , problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, customers can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at

http://www.ibm.com/support/electronic

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent . Reports are available for any system associated with the customer's IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, customers are able to see search results that apply specifically to their systems.
