Description
Bottom rule

IBM TSSC can provide remote support for as many as twenty-four Removable Media Storage Systems (RMSS) product frames or forty-three unique attached tape systems. A RMSS frame reserves a block of IP addresses on the TSSC network. Examples of RMSS product frames are TS7740, TS7720, and TS7650(G). The TSSC is required and mandatory to provide the remote support capabilities for the RMSS product family. All remote support is provided by the TSSC.

Remote support capabilities include:

TSSC provides the focal point for local service activities within the data center. The TSSC is attached via 100 Mbps private Ethernet network to each RMSS frame or tape system, allowing for many service functions to be performed at the console. The TSSC provides the following local service configuration tools and applications:

IBM TSSC provides a rackmount version of TSSC for installation. Due to the withdrawal from marketing of TS3000 System Console feature #2732 for Machine type 3958 and feature #2722 for Machine types 3584 and 3952 on August 31, 2012, new feature code numbers are being released for the TSSC.

Feature #2724 provides the enhanced mountable TSSC 1U server and an Ethernet cable for connection to the rack mount switch.

Feature #5512 provides a keyboard, display, and mouse.

With the introduction of the new TSSC feature #2724, in order for IBM to gain remote access to the machine, feature #2734, a new external homologated USB modem for approved countries, will be required or the customer will need to provide an external modem that is supported by the TSSC server for those regions not listed on the qualified country list.

The TSSC new server, USB modem, and 26 or 16 Port Ethernet Switch are available as features #2734, #2724, #2714, #2702, or #2704, with IBM Enterprise Tape Systems and Controllers 3584 Model L23 or L53, and 3952 Model F05 supporting attachment of 3592 Model C07, TS7700 components, 3958 Model DD5 and 3958 Model AP1.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM . Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
