Effective September 30, 2009, IBM will withdraw support for the following program release licensed under the IBM International Program License Agreement.
Program number Program release name 5639-VC41 IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Storage Software V4.1 1 Support for PID remains, for Version 4 Releases above release 1.
SAN Volume Controller Storage Software V4.1 (5639-VC4) was previously superceded by version 4.2, effective June 8, 2007. For details, refer to Software Announcement 207-105, dated May 22, 2007.
Note: The originally announced V4 product PID, 5639-VC4, Software Maintenance PIDs, and orderable features remain in place and orderable for the current release.
On or after September 30, 2009, you can no longer obtain this program directly from IBM. You can obtain this program on an as-available basis through IBM Remarketers.

IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Storage Software V4.3 (5639-VC4) is the currently available replacement for V4.1.

Software Maintenance authorizations for V4 are ordered from Software Maintenance PIDs indicated in the right column of the table below, which remain unchanged from V4.1.

- Software Maintenance PIDs 5639-SSA through 5639-SSE originally announced for 5639-VC4, remain in effect.
- Upgrading to IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Software V4.x, from versions earlier than V3.1, requires installation of IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller Storage Software V3.1 before V4 is installed. AAS and Passport Advantage customers with current maintenance are entitled to upgrade to any code level available on the support Web site; howeve,r V3.1 will be removed from this site effective April 24, 2009. Current customers who have not already upgraded to or beyond V3.1 are responsible for downloading V3.1 before April 24, 2009, to enable further upgrades.
After the end of service date, customers who are at levels lower than V4.2 will require for-fee assistance, from IBM, to access and install V3.1 as a necessary step for any installation of SAN Volume Controller Storage Software V4, or later.

These upgrades are designed to be non-disruptive.
Note: The Microsoft Windows platform provision for SAN Volume Controller Master Console installation is a customer responsibility. Maintenance and upgrade of the Master Console Windows server software applies as a customer responsibility, whether the original Microsoft Windows license in support of the Master Console was obtained via order of SAN Volume Controller Storage Engine 2145 hardware feature number 4001, or obtained directly from Microsoft as the pre-requisite to installing harware feature number 4002 or the Master Console Software Kit supplied in media feature 5809 of SAN Volume Controller Storage Software. Further, you must obtain Microsoft Windows license and code upgrades directly from Microsoft. IBM cannot supply Windows platform upgrades for the SAN Volume Controller Master Console platform. Windows 2000 has entered Windows Extended Support phase effective June 30, 2005, and Windows 2003 R1 is scheduled to enter Windows Extended Support phase effective April, 2008.
It is recommended that both the Windows platform upgrade to Windows 2003 R2 and the installation of current Master Console code be completed by you, before scheduling upgrade to SAN Volume Controller Software V4.
