  • Cumulative Service (CUM Tape) delivered with Product Order is replaced by Enhanced Custom Build Product Delivery Offering, 5751-CS3.

Starting in September 2000, IBM will begin to offer software products via "customized offerings" instead of the "stand-alone" product media options available today. Replacing the traditional stand-alone deliver with an enhanced Custom Built Product Delivery Offering (CBPDO) will provide a more complete, up-to-date "product with service" package than has ever been available in the past.

Customers will continue to configure stand-alone product orders via the stand-alone path for non-customized items (that is, CD's, disks, source media, media kits), price proposals and for orders not requiring media shipment such as MES to add license for optional features. All requests for stand-alone product media deliverables will be directed to the 5751-CS3 custom build software offering. Instructions for ordering will be provided through the software ordering comments.

CBPDO currently provides service for all the licensed products in the ordered SREL, as well as non-integrated service for the ordered products CBPDO is being enhanced to allow service to be limited to either the ordered products, or to selected releases of OS/390 (for MVS SREL orders). Further details pertaining to this "scoped" enhancement may be obtained upon availability of the OS/390 R10 Planning For Installation publication.

The service that is currently provided with "stand-alone" products referred to as the Cumulative (also known as CUM Tapes) is numerous weeks old, requiring customers to order more recent service in order to bring the product to current service level. This additional step is not required with this deliverable.

These changes will also improve the product installation process for customers by providing the following data on a single logical tape:

  1. FMIDs and latest service for the ordered products only
  2. Required program directories
  3. Preventative Service Planning (PSP) Buckets
  4. Relevant HOLDDATA and ++ASSIGN statements
