Modification: IBM System i no-charge removal offering

Effective February 16, 2010, the IBM® System i® no-charge removal offering has been modified.

The following change is being made with this announcement:

  • the number of U.S. contracts the customer must execute has been reduced.

All other terms and conditions remain unchanged.

This announcement supersedes Announcement Letter 308-612, dated December 23, 2008.

The offer

IBM will provide pickup and proper disposal of a designated installed IBM AS/400®, iSeries®, or System i Replaced Machine, at no additional charge, when you acquire a selected eligible new IBM System i or Power Systems™ Replacement Machine.

Only one designated installed Replaced Machine can be returned at no additional charge per eligible new Replacement Machine acquired.

Start and/or end dates

For purchase transactions, IBM invoices for eligible new Replacement Machines must be dated on or after February 16, 2010.

For lease transactions, signed and accepted Leasing Certificates of Acceptance or lease contracts with "Deemed Acceptance" for eligible Replacement Machines must have a lease commencement date of on or after February 16, 2010.

Contracts required for the no-charge return of a designated installed Replaced Machine must be received by IBM no later than 30 calendar days after the IBM invoice or lease commencement date for an eligible new Replacement Machine.

IBM must be contacted to schedule pickup of a Replaced Machine no later than four months following the IBM invoice or lease commencement date for an eligible new Replacement Machine.

Additional information/conditions

The lessee of a Replaced Machine financed by IBM Global Financing must purchase the Replaced Machine and pay all related buyout charges before returning it to IBM.

A Replaced Machine currently under an Installation Payment Agreement (IPA) or an Installment Payment Master Agreement (IPMA) must be paid for in full by the customer before returning it to IBM.

IBM reserves the right to modify or withdraw this offering at any time.

This offering is subject to the terms and conditions of any applicable Agreements.

You agree to acquire hardware products under this offering for your own use and not for remarketing, leasing or transferring to a third party, unless you are arranging for lease-back financing for the hardware products.

You are responsible for all applicable taxes such as Goods and Services Tax (GST), Quebec Sales Tax (QST), Provincial Sales Tax (PST), and other sales or value-added taxes which are extra.

Eligibility requirements

In order to qualify, you must do the following:

  • In the United States, ensure that IBM receives, no later than 30 calendar days after the IBM invoice date or lease commencement date of the Replacement Machine, the following document signed by you:


    • ICA Attachment for No Charge Removal of Qualified Machines (Z125-5518)


  • In Canada, ensure that IBM receives, no later than 30 calendar days after the IBM invoice date or lease commencement date of the Replacement Machine, the following documents signed by you:
    • The IBM Customer Agreement, or equivalent master agreement, and
    • The Amendment for Trade-in Machines (Form 0302), and
    • The Transaction Document -- Purchase (Form 0127) or Lease (Form 0128) with Selectable Clause "Trade-In Machines" (S093)


  • Have the Replaced Machine installed in a qualifying location as of the date of signing the ICA Attachment or Transaction Document, as applicable


  • Have the Replacement Machine installed in the same Enterprise where the Replaced Machine was installed within the United States (including Puerto Rico) and Canada


  • Have clear title to the Replaced Machine, free of any encumbrances, at the time it is picked up by IBM's designated carrier


  • Contact your IBM representative no later than four months after the IBM invoice date or lease commencement date of the Replacement Machine to schedule the pickup of the Replaced Machine.

Trade-In Credits

No trade-in credit will be issued for a Replaced Machine.

Replaced Machines

You are responsible for:

  • Contacting your IBM representative to schedule pickup of the Replaced Machine no later than four months following the IBM invoice date or lease commencement date of the Replacement Machine. The Replaced Machine must be available for pickup by IBM's carrier when you contact your IBM representative. IBM will not pay for shipping costs if any other means of return is used.


  • Removing any alterations, non-IBM attachments, and data from Replaced Machines. Any IBM service charges incurred in this process or in preparing the machine for pickup are your responsibility.


  • Disconnecting Replaced Machines before pickup. IBM's carrier will prepare the machine for shipment at the time of pickup. It is not necessary for IBM Service to pack the machine for shipment. If you request that IBM prepare the machine for shipment, you will be billed for this service.


  • Requesting that maintenance coverage, if any, for the Replaced Machine be discontinued in accordance with the terms and conditions of the agreements.


  • Ensuring that the Replaced Machine is in working order on the day it is picked up.

IBM is responsible for:

  • Making arrangements to remove the Replaced Machine upon receiving your request.


  • All shipping and storage costs associated with the return of a Replaced Machine to IBM, exclusive of any charges for special handling required to remove the Replaced Machine. Special handling includes, but is not limited to:

    Sat/Sun Pickup/Delivery
    Expedite Service
    Exclusive Use Charge
    Labor Charge
    Stairs / Elevator Carry
    Special Equipment Charge
    Detention with Power
    Detention without Power
    Advance Charges
    Appointment
    Auxiliary Service
    Liftgate/Forklift
