IBM's new IMS Dynamic Resource Control (DRC) facility helps you increase productivity and avoid disruptions of your IMS system. How? By giving both IMS System and Application programmers the tools necessary to monitor many aspects of system operation. DRC offers more than 45 functions that give you valuable information when you need it for maximum system performance. Here are just a few:

Manage your IMS system for maximum performance with IBM's new Dynamic Resource Control facility (DRC). This online monitor puts comprehensive resource information at your fingertips and helps you spot and resolve potential problems before they become critical.
In this one product, you get many of the tools you need to manage your system effectively. DRC displays many of the things you want to know about IMS, including address spaces, dependent regions, control blocks, buffer pool, and database usage and resources.
The Dynamic Resource Control Facility is designed to operate in IMS/ESA® Version 5 and Version 6 environments.
Planned Availability Date
IMS Dynamic Resource Control (DRC) facility is a productivity aid for both the IMS Systems and Application Programmers. There are a number of functions which assist in problem determination, resource utilization (MVS, OS/390, and IMS), and performance analysis (Fast Path and full function).
The product has been in use by a very experienced set of IMS users for some time. IBM has acquired the product and is making it generally available to all IMS customers.
IMS Dynamic Resource Control facility, helps you toward maximizing the performance of your MVS, OS/390, and IMS systems. By using the monitoring functions, you will be able to anticipate problems and take corrective actions before the situation becomes critical. DRC allows users to execute any DRC function on a remote IMS system facilitating access to multiple IMS systems without the need for a direct connection to the target system.
Hardware and Software Support Services
IBM SmoothStart or Installation Services will not be provided for the IMS Dynamic Resource Control Facility.
Specified Operating Environment
DRC functions as an IMS Message Processing Program and operates under all of the systems integrity features inherent with this environment. Support of RACF® as an External Security Manager is optional.
Security, Auditability, and Control
The announced program uses the security and auditability features of the supported IMS and/or MVS systems. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Entry Support License (ESL): To order an ESL license, specify the program number, feature number 9001 for asset registration, and the applicable ESL OTC feature number. Also specify the feature number of the desired distribution medium.

Parallel Sysplex® License Charge (PSLC) Basic License: To order a basic license, specify the program number and feature number 9001 for asset registration. Specify the PSLC Base feature. If applicable, specify the PSLC Level A and PSLC Level B, and PSLC Level C, PSLC Level D features and quantity.
If there is more than one program copy in a Parallel Sysplex, the charge for all copies is associated to one license by specifying the applicable PSLC feature numbers and quantity represented by the sum of the Service Units in Millions (MSUs) in your Parallel Sysplex. For all other program copies, specify the PSLC No-Charge (NC) Identifier feature on the licenses.
Also, specify the feature number of the desired distribution medium.

Single Version Charging: To elect single version charging, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program and the designated machine the programs are operating on.
Version-to-Version Upgrade Credit: To upgrade from a prior program acquired for a one-time charge (OTC) to a replacement program using a version-to-version upgrade credit, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the applicable prior program and replacement program participating in the upgrade credit.
