Overview

Manage your IMS™ system for maximum performance with IBM's new Dynamic Resource Control facility (DRC). This online monitor puts comprehensive resource information at your fingertips and helps you spot and resolve potential problems before they become critical.

In this one product, you get many of the tools you need to manage your system effectively. DRC displays many of the things you want to know about IMS, including address spaces, dependent regions, control blocks, buffer pool, and database usage and resources.

It also enables you to execute any DRC functions on a remote IMS system, so you can access multiple IMS systems without a direct connection to the target system.

Key Prerequisites

The Dynamic Resource Control Facility is designed to operate in IMS/ESA® Version 5 and Version 6 environments.

Description

IMS Dynamic Resource Control (DRC) facility is a productivity aid for both the IMS Systems and Application Programmers. There are a number of functions which assist in problem determination, resource utilization (MVS, OS/390, and IMS), and performance analysis (Fast Path and full function).

The product has been in use by a very experienced set of IMS users for some time. IBM has acquired the product and is making it generally available to all IMS customers.

IMS Dynamic Resource Control facility, helps you toward maximizing the performance of your MVS, OS/390, and IMS systems. By using the monitoring functions, you will be able to anticipate problems and take corrective actions before the situation becomes critical. DRC allows users to execute any DRC function on a remote IMS system facilitating access to multiple IMS systems without the need for a direct connection to the target system.

Year 2000

This product does not have date dependencies and is Year 2000 ready.

Euro Currency

This program is not impacted by euro currency.

SmoothStart™/Installation Services

IBM SmoothStart or Installation Services will not be provided for the IMS Dynamic Resource Control Facility.

Technical Information

Specified Operating Environment

Hardware Requirements: The Dynamic Resource Control Facility is designed to operate on any hardware supporting IMS/ESA® Versions 5 or 6.

Software Requirements: The Dynamic Resource Control Facility operates with the following IMS/ESA Versions and requires SMP/E Version 1 (5668-949) for installation.

  • IMS/ESA Version 5 Release 1 (5695-176)
  • IMS/ESA Version 6 Release 1 (5655-158)

Note: OS/390® (5645-001) is a valid substitute for all programs included in the OS/390 Base.

System Integrity

DRC functions as an IMS™ Message Processing Program and operates under all of the systems integrity features inherent with this environment. Support of RACF® as an External Security Manager is optional.

Security, Auditability, and Control

The announced program uses the security and auditability features of the supported IMS and/or MVS™ systems. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Parallel Sysplex® License Charge (PSLC) Basic License: To order a basic license, specify the program number and feature number 9001 for asset registration. Specify the PSLC Base feature. If applicable, specify the PSLC Level A and PSLC Level B, and PSLC Level C, PSLC Level D features and quantity.

If there is more than one program copy in a Parallel Sysplex, the charge for all copies is associated to one license by specifying the applicable PSLC feature numbers and quantity represented by the sum of the Service Units in Millions (MSUs) in your Parallel Sysplex. For all other program copies, specify the PSLC No-Charge (NC) Identifier feature on the licenses.

Example 1: For a single machine with 11 MSUs, the PSLC features would be:

Parallel Sysplex License Charge (PSLC) Basic License:: To order a basic license, specify the program number and the feature number 9001 for asset registration. Specify the PSLC Base feature and applicable PSLC Level A and PSLC Level B features and quantity.

Single Version Charging: To elect single version charging, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program and the designated machine the programs are operating on.

Version-to-Version Upgrade Credit: To upgrade from a prior program acquired for a one-time charge (OTC) to a replacement program using a version-to-version upgrade credit, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the applicable prior program and replacement program participating in the upgrade credit.

Customization Options: Select the appropriate feature numbers to customize your order to specify the delivery options desired. These features can be specified on the initial or MES orders.

Example: If publications are not desired for the initial order, specify feature number 3470 to ship media only. For future updates, specify feature number 3480 to ship media updates only. If, in the future, publication updates are required, order an MES to remove feature number 3480; then, the publications will ship with the next release of the program.
