IBM introduces Parallel Change Accumulation for IMS/ESA to an already robust set of IMS tools that help you improve the operation and control of your IMS environment. Parallel Change Accumulation for IMS/ESA is designed to:
- Improve availability and reduce your IMS service window with
- Enable you to operate multiple IMS Change Accumulation jobs in
- Help reduce the I/O, CPU time, and elapsed time needed to build change accum datasets

Parallel Change Accumulation for IMS/ESA (R) (IMS (TM) Parallel Change Accum) can help improve database availability and recovery time by more effectively dealing with the change accumulation process.
Parallel Processing Improves Availability
IMS Parallel Change Accum provides a simple design solution that combines its own data transfer service, Cross Memory Communicator (XCM), with the IMS Change Accumulation utility provided with IMS to establish an environment for the parallel operation of multiple change accumulation jobs. This design can:
- Improve availability
- Reduce I/O, CPU time, and elapsed time
- Provide flexibility in operation
- Insulate change to the IMS Change Accumulation utility
In the past, when using the IMS Change Accum utility to build multiple change accumulation data sets from the same IMS logs, you needed to execute, in sequence, as many jobs as there were change accum groups. Now with IMS Parallel Change Accum, you can execute these jobs in parallel and the I/O between jobs can be significantly reduced.
- IMS Parallel Change Accum is designed to operate in IMS/ESA Version 5 and Version 6 environments.

Parallel Change Accumulation for IMS/ESA (IMS Parallel Change Accum) provides an environment allowing execution of multiple IMS Change Accumulation utility jobs in parallel rather than sequentially. This product combines the Parallel Change Accumulation utility with its own data transfer service, Cross Memory Communicator (XCM).
XCM provides high-performance data transfer exploiting MVS/ESA (TM) shared memory services to eliminate the I/O between jobs running in separate address spaces. IMS Parallel Change Accum uses this service to pass data between change accumulation jobs to eliminate I/O operations and enable parallel operation.
Parallel Change Accumulation Utility
This utility provides a front-end module to the IMS Change Accumulation utility. The utility establishes an environment where the IMS Change Accumulation utility can be invoked and I/O requests routed across address spaces using XCM services. This allows parallel execution of the IMS Change Accumulation utility and the memory-to-memory transfer of data between jobs to reduce I/O operations.
IMS Parallel Change Accum does not build Change Accumulation data sets. The utility uses the standard IMS Change Accumulation utility for building the output data set, making the product independent of IMS changes to the Change Accumulation utility itself.
This product does not have date dependencies and is Year 2000 ready.

Specified Operating Environment
Hardware Requirements: IMS (TM) Parallel Change Accum is designed to operate on any hardware supporting IMS/ESA (R) Version 5 or Version 6.
Software Requirements: IMS Parallel Change Accum supports the following IMS/ESA Versions and requires SMP/E Version 1 (5668-949) for installation.
- IMS/ESA Version 5 Release 1 (5695-176)
- IMS/ESA Version 6 Release 1 (5655-158)
- MVS/ESA (TM) Version 5 Release 2, or later.
- Resource Access Control Facility (RACF (R)) Version 1 Release 9, or later, or an equivalent and compatible Security Access Facility (SAF) security package.
Security, Auditability, and Control
This program uses the security and auditability features of the supported IMS and/or MVS (TM) systems. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.
Shipment will begin on the planned availability date.
New users of IMS Parallel Change Accum should specify:
Basic License: Specify the feature number of the desired distribution medium shown below.
Entry Support License (ESL): To order an ESL license, specify the program number, feature number 9001 for asset registration, and the applicable ESL OTC feature number. Also specify the feature number of the desired distribution medium.
