Data Base Integrity Control Facility (DBICF) is a system management tool that provides a complete interface to the IMS (TM) Database Recovery Control (DBRC) facility, which is essential for Sysplex data sharing environments. DBICF Version 6 supports IMS/ESA (R) Version 6 and is upgraded from previous versions to a Program Product. DBICF is now compliant with IBM naming and packaging standards and is Year 2000 enabled.
DBICF provides an easy-to-use ISPF interface to DBRC for the expert or novice user. DBICF features:
- Simplify and speed up database repair operations, helping reduce
operational outages and delays
- Provide an interface for all DBRC commands and utilities,
including online and batch utilities
- Automate batch job generation, for utilities, and dynamic batch
generation of batch jobs for housekeeping
- Aid in disaster recovery, enabling automation of recovery
procedures for an entire IMS database system
- Enable execution of predefined DBA oriented queries, to allow
quicker access to system information
- Log DBRC commands and utilities, and provide a log interface with a search facility
IMS/ESA Version 6 customers that are using or intend to use DBRC.
DBICF V6 supports IMS/ESA Version 6 only. The online interface requires ISPF/PDF Version 3.4, or later. DBICF is installed by the System Modification Program (SMP/E).

This announcement is provided for your information only. For additional information, contact your IBM representative, call 800-IBM-4YOU, or visit the IBM home page at: %+%Start_URL%+% http://www.ibm.com
DBICF assists IMS customers by simplifying and automating the use of the DBRC facility in IMS or CICS with DBCTL, DBCTL only, and IMS batch environments. DBICF features and functions include:
- Easy-to-Use DBRC Interface
Any DBRC command entered via the DBICF interface is correctly formatted and, if required, transparently accesses RECON information directly. All DBRC command executions are logged.
- Recovery Aids
DBICF provides assistance for the operational control of recoveries. This includes:
- Backing out an online transaction and batch message programs
(BMPs) that were not backed out
- Automatic backout of IMS batch jobs
- Automatic RECON repair and cleanup
- Generation of recovery jobs for related DBDs
- Backing out an online transaction and batch message programs (BMPs) that were not backed out
DBICF provides many online and batch reports, which include:
- Formatted database management and recovery oriented overview
- Formatted logging and DB allocation report for subsystems
- Formatted chronological DB history
- Queries that allow users with DB2 (R) to query IMS database
information extracted from RECON, VTOC, and VSAM catalogs
- Reports of the consistency of the databases and their registration in the RECON
- Formatted database management and recovery oriented overview
- Database Administration and Operations Aids
DBICF provides assistance for operations and database administration that include:
- Generating a PSB for online image copy
- Generating jobs to image copy all databases, related databases,
or those that have no valid image copy
- Generating jobs to image copy all databases that have been
updated since the last image copy
- Creating and updating change accumulation groups and DBDS
- Comparing the RECON to the DBD library, dynamic allocation
modules, and IMS system generation
- Creating "shadow" databases for testing or parallel run
- Providing a job step that checks if databases required by a PSB can be used in the current environment
- Generating a PSB for online image copy
- Auditing of Commands and Utilities
DBICF logs all command and utility operations and provides a log query that can show what user ran what DBRC or IMS utility operation.
- Support for Year 2000 and Daylight Savings Time
Similar to DBRC, DBICF now accepts timestamps with a two-digit year and, where applicable, with a four-digit year. DBICF also supports the revised internal timestamp format in the RECON. DBICF converts Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) timestamps in the RECON into local timestamps. All timestamps in DBICF reports represent local timestamps.
- Online Image Copy Check
This function checks if a specific IMS full function database can be processed by the IMS online image copy.
- Print/Delete/Modify Selected RECON Records
This function allows the user to:
- Display or print selected RECON records in hexadecimal and
- Delete or change data in the RECON that might be helpful in an emergency case. All changes are logged.
- Display or print selected RECON records in hexadecimal and alphanumeric format.
- Online Databases Availability Check
This function checks whether all IMS online databases are started for update. Databases not started are displayed on the system console and listed with their current status. This function can be used to enhance online automation.

One-Time Charge: Customers who pay a one-time charge for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately. If a replacement program is announced and the customer elects to license the replacement program, a time-based upgrade credit may apply.
Variable Charges: The applicable graduated one-time charge or graduated monthly license charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.
For upgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of one-time charges paid.
For upgrades or downgrades of monthly license charge licenses, the monthly license charge applicable to the higher or lower group will apply.
Entry Support License One-Time Charge: One-time charge authorizes use only on IBM Entry End User/390 Machines.
