DESCRIPTION

IMS MRQ provides utilities designed to assist you in IMS:

  • Message queue recovery after either a planned or unplanned system outage

  • Message queue migration and fallback

  • Application recovery when it is desirable to return messages to the IMS queue for reprocessing

  • Stress, regression, and application testing when transaction data is needed to simulate production loads or application input
IMS MRQ Version 3 extends these capabilities to the IMS Version 6 and SMQ environments while adding new function to help manage the new SMQ environment. IMS MRQ Version 3:
  • Improves on Existing Features
    • User exits added to Select, Cancel, and Insert utilities

    • New reports added for Cancel and Select processing

    • Insert processing reports revised

    • Selection criteria enhanced to allow message selection by:
      • LU-Name by source and destination
      • LU-Sidename by source and destination
      • LU-Tpipename (OTMA messages)
      • VTAM (R)
    • Controls added to set maximum number of messages to be inserted

    • Controls added to control time interval of message inserts (allows MRQ use as a message driver for IMS testing)

    • Support added for universal time, coordinated (UTC) as well as local time on Checkpoint and select controls

    • Support for two byte sysid on include/exclude controls

    • MRQ messages standardized to improve use with automated operations tools

    • MRQ WTO message routing support to direct messages to operator or log

    • DEBUG control card added to allow SNAP of errors

    • MRQ ABENDS removed and replaced with MRQ messages

    • Comments supported on control cards

    • Ease-of-use improvements:
      • Upper or lower case input support
      • User added report titles
      • Simplified sort parameter specification
  • Extends Support to IMS/ESA Version 6

IMS MRQ Version 3 provides recovery support for message queues including support for the IMS SMQ solution. Migration and fallback support is extended to IMS Version 6 and supported between IMS Versions 4 and 5. MRQ Version 3 supports migration and fallback between:

    • IMS Version 4 and IMS Version 5
    • IMS Version 4 and IMS Version 6
    • IMS Version 4 and IMS Version 6 SMQ
    • IMS Version 5 and IMS Version 6
    • IMS Version 5 and IMS Version 6 SMQ
Messages can now be transferred between IMS environments with all prefix data adjusted to accommodate differences between IMS versions.

  • Adds New Features Supporting SMQ

New in IMS MRQ Version 3 is support for the IMS SMQ solution. This support includes:

    • BROWSE -- Browse reads the messages on the shared queues and returns a copy of the message to the MRQ. The original messages are left on the message queues.

    • QUERY -- Queries the shared queues to determine which queues have messages and the number of messages. The information can be used for a follow-on unload or for a report. The query can be by queue type or destination name.

    • RECOVER -- Recovers messages locked on the IMS cold queue.

    • UNLOAD -- Unloads messages from the message queues. A queue type, destination name, or timestamp range can be specified.

    • LOAD -- Loads messages to the message queues. This function is equivalent to the existing message requeue support today.
IMS MRQ continues to expand in functionality to provide the facilities needed to better manage IMS message queues.

One-Time Charge: Customers who pay a one-time charge for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately. If a replacement program is announced and the customer elects to license the replacement program, a time-based upgrade credit may apply.

Variable Charges: The applicable graduated one-time charge or graduated monthly license charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.

For upgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of one-time charges paid.

For upgrades or downgrades of monthly license charge licenses, the monthly license charge applicable to the higher or lower group will apply.
