Overview

The IMS (TM) Performance Analyzer (IMS PA) gives you the clues needed to get better IMS system performance. IMS PA provides more than 30 reports (from management summaries to detail program traces) to meet a broad range of IMS systems analysis objectives. These reports can help optimize IMS system and application performance.

Specifically, IMS PA can help:

  • Improve transaction response times.

  • Increase availability of resources.

  • Improve message region and queue use.

  • Increase the productivity of system and application programmers.

  • Improve buffer pool usage.

  • Reduce the need to run IMS utilities.

  • Provide ongoing system management and measurement reports.
IMS PA is the functional equivalent of IMS/VS Performance Analysis Reporting (IMSPARS) and IMS Monitor Summary and Systems Analysis Program (IMSASAP) and has no dependency on the General Performance Analysis Reporting (GPAR) product. But that is not all. In addition, IMS PA includes:
  • An easy-to-use ISPF user interface.

  • Improved and new reports including IRLM and RACF (TM) usage and OSAM and external subsystem connection statistics.

  • Support for IMS Versions 4, 5, and 6, from a single load library.
Don't be clueless. Get IMS PA and get the information you need for better IMS resource and performance management.

Intended Customers

  • IMS/ESA (R) customers who need enhanced reporting on IMS log and/or monitor data to assist managers, database administrators, and system programmers with performance analysis and tuning of IMS DB or TM systems

  • IMSPARS and IMSASAP customers (conversion facilities are provided to existing IMSPARS and IMSASAP command input batch jobs to IMS PA)

Key Prerequisites

IMS PA can be used with multiple versions of IMS and is supported on IMS/ESA Version 4, or later. The online interface requires ISPF Release 4.1, or later. IMS PA is installed by the System Modification Program (SMP/E).

  • Single Load Library
    • Support for IMS/ESA Versions 4, 5 and 6 from a single load library

    • The applicable IMS version is specified using the online interface

    • No need to reassemble IMS PA when upgrading IMS

    • No GPAR dependency
IMS PA provides non-intrusive monitoring facilities based on existing data sources, largely the existing IMS log. It does not incur any additional performance overhead on a running system in order to produce its statistics (unlike other tools). The online interface provides extensive help capabilities, including a description of each report and its usage. Also available is field level help for each report parameter and option, allowing the user to easily decide which report options to use.

IMS PA helps provide the information needed to effectively analyze IMS system performance. Combined with other IBM high-performance IMS tools, IMS PA can help improve IMS system performance and database availability. Can you afford to be without it?

* Full support of IMS/ESA Version 6 Shared Queues will not be
available with the initial release of IMS PA. This support is
planned for delivery by PTF following the general availability
      of IMS/ESA Version 6.

One-Time Charge: Customers who pay a one-time charge for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately. If a replacement program is announced and the customer elects to license the replacement program, a time-based upgrade credit may apply.

Variable Charges: The applicable graduated one-time charge or graduated monthly license charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.

For upgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of one-time charges paid.

For upgrades or downgrades of monthly license charge licenses, the monthly license charge applicable to the higher or lower group will apply.

Entry Support License One-Time Charge: One-time charge authorizes use only on IBM Entry End User/390 machines.
