DB2 Buffer Pool Tool helps performance analysts evaluate tuning alternatives and achieve optimal performance with minimal effort. Accurate tuning of buffer pools is one of the single most critical factors to improving DB2 performance and getting the most out of your system resources. By now, we all know the best I/O is no I/O; however, eliminating I/O can be a challenging task.

DB2 Buffer Pool Tool gives you comprehensive statistical data and easy-to-read reports and graphs for all pools and objects. The type of information provided by DB2 Buffer Pool Tool is not available from any other monitor or tool in the industry.

DESCRIPTION

    The DB2 Buffer Pool Tool provides the following advantages:

  • Low Overhead

    The last thing you want to have is a performance tool that causes a performance problem because it uses too much overhead in collecting statistical information. The advantage of DB2 Buffer Pool Tool is that it uses the IFI interface and its own data collection facility to avoid the costly overhead associated with other tools. Further, DB2 Buffer Pool Tool easily processes a statistically meaningful data collection interval (more than 30 minutes) that other trace facilities cannot handle efficiently.

  • Unique Information

    No other DB2 tool provides the level and type of statistical analysis available in DB2 Buffer Pool Tool. DB2 Buffer Pool Tool shows you exactly how the pool and objects are used. The extensive statistics include:

    • System and Application Hit Ratios
    • Getpage Activity and I/O Rates

Specified Operating Environment

Hardware Requirements: The DB2 (R) Buffer Pool Tool operates on any hardware supporting the following minimum software versions:

  • DB2/ESA Version 3 (5685-DB2)
  • Microsoft (R) Windows (R) 3.11 or Windows 95
Windows software is optional and required for usage with the PC components of the product only.



Security, Auditability, and Control

The announced program uses the security and auditability features of the MVS (R) DB2 software.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Version-to-Version Upgrade Credit: To upgrade from a prior program acquired for an OTC to a replacement program using a version-to-version upgrade credit, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the applicable prior program and replacement program participating in the upgrade credit.

OTC: Customers who pay an OTC for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately. If a replacement program is announced and the customer elects to license the replacement program and replace the prior program, a time-based upgrade credit may apply.

Variable Charges: The applicable graduated OTC or graduated MLC will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.

For upgrades of OTC licenses to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of OTC licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of OTCs paid.

For upgrades or downgrades of MLC licenses, the MLC applicable to the higher or lower group will apply.
