Overview

Your critical business operations depend on your IMS (TM) applications running successfully. As the complexity of transaction processing environments has grown, the ability to develop zero-defect code has become even more challenging. Thorough testing of these programs, before they are implemented, is extremely important. IMS/ESA (R) Batch Terminal Simulator (BTS) aids in the testing and debugging of applications (using IMS databases and/or DB2 (R) databases) in a TSO or batch environment.

BTS Version 2 provides a number of enhancements including support for year 2000 dates on outputs, support for MQSeries (TM) call trace, support for LU6.2/APPC, and most significantly, the ability to operate on multiple IMS versions from a single BTS loadlib.

Intended Customers

BTS Version 2 is for all IMS customers:

  • As a recommended upgrade from BTS Version 1

  • Moving to IMS/ESA Version 6

  • Operating multiversion IMS/ESA environments who need a comprehensive means of checking application program logic, IMS application interfaces, teleprocessing activity, 3270 format control blocks, and database activity

Key Prerequisites

BTS Version 2 can be used with multiple versions of IMS and is supported on IMS/ESA Version 4, or later. BTS Version 2 is installed by the System Modification Program (SMP).

DESCRIPTION

BTS Version 2 provides the following enhancements:

  • Multiversion IMS support from a single BTS loadlib

From a single loadlib, BTS will now support multiple versions of IMS.

BTS Version 1 supported multiple IMS versions but required reassembly or creation of multiple BTS loadlibs to support the specific IMS version.

  • Year 2000 support for date/time on BTSOUT

BTS external date references are changed to display four-digit year.

  • IMS Version 6 run-under support

BTS will be allowed to execute under IMS/ESA Version 6 Release 1.

  • MQSeries call trace support

BTS will now provide trace information for MQI calls on BTSOUT when running in an online IMS environment.

BTS Version 1 does not provide any trace information for MQI calls.

  • LU6.2/APPC support

BTS will now provide the following functions for LU6.2/APPC:

    • Parameter format check and destination address check for CHNG call, which specifies LU 6.2 keywords

    • Parameter format check for SETO call

    • Obtain APPC information for INQY (null) call
  • AUTOMATIC INIT DBQUERY with conversational mode

BTS Version 2 has been changed to return to IMS/ESA to execute AUTOMATIC INIT DBQUERY with conversational mode when re-attach flag, specified by the user, is turned on using the ./P command.

BTS Version 1 does not support execution of AUTOMATIC INIT DBQUERY with conversational mode.

  • /EXIT support under LE/370

BTS Version 2 returns to IMS for the next conversational transaction when /EXIT command is issued under LE/370. This eliminates the user's need to turn on a re-attach flag using the ./P command.

BTS Version 1 has the limitation that the user must turn on a re-attatch flag using the ./P command when the transaction code is entered under LE/370 after the /EXIT command.

  • TYPE=IFP support for INQY call

BTS Version 2 now provides the TYPE=IFP parameter of the BTS ./T command for the INQY call. TYPE=IFP has an effect on only an INQY call with subfunction 'ENVIRON'.

  • ETO Status code support

BTS Version 2 will return the same status code (for PCB interface), AIB return code, and AIB reason code (for AIB interface) as IMS when the CHNG or ISRT call for a dynamic terminal with Extended Terminal Option (ETO) is issued.

  • COBTEST under Batch Job

BTS Version 2 now runs with COBTEST under Batch Job.

BTS Version 1 has a limitation that BTS runs with COBTEST (COBOL Interactive Debug) only in the TSO foreground.
