MRQ Version 2 provides the means to recover IMS Message Queues and/or
carry transactions across an IMS cold start. This can avoid the need
to write IMS Log analysis programs to identify and re-insert
MRQ Version 2 can reinsert any message type in the IMS message
queue. This includes the following transaction types not previously
o Multiple Systems Coupling (MSC)
o ETO Messages.
SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT-IMPROVED SYSTEM AVAILABILITY
Many customers use IMS transactions to drive daily business activity.
These transactions reflect a value, item, or unit of work critical to
the business. In addition to normal transaction usage, some
customers use the IMS message queues as a work repository, stacking
transactions in the queue for processing later in the day. These
messages may be lost from the IMS message queue without being
processed when a system failure or a system redefinition requires a
cold start, or they may be processed incorrectly because of an
application program error. Recovery of these messages could involve
writing an application program to analyze the IMS log data and
re-insert the messages, or the manual re-entering of the
MRQ Version 2 accommodates both circumstances by providing a
means to return the messages to the message queue to be processed or
reprocessed correctly. MRQ Version 2 operates in either of two
o Recover Mode
In this mode, MRQ Version 2 selects messages that have not
yet been processed by IMS. This mode is used when, because of an
IMS cold start, messages that were on the queue are no longer
there and must be recovered from the system log data set.
The improved performance of MRQ Version 2 can help reduce
the time to recover the IMS message queues, improving IMS
availability and reducing the business impact of the system
o Reprocess Mode
In this mode, MRQ Version 2 selects previously processed
messages for reinsertion to the message queue. This mode is
- Reprocessing messages after correcting an application program
- Stress or regression testing of an IMS system.
Again, improved MRQ Version 2 performance and enhanced
selection flexibility can save time and effort in recovering
messages for reprocessing.
PERFORMANCE: Message selection CPU time can be reduced as much as
72%, and overall elapsed time for a typical recovery scenario,
Message Selection and Message Insert, can be reduced as much as 85%
when compared to the same operations of MRQ Version 1.
This performance data was obtained in a controlled
environment, therefore, results obtained in another environment may

SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
This product uses only existing attachment interfaces.
MACHINE REQUIREMENTS: The hardware configuration required for MRQ
Version 2 is determined by the requirements of the host operating
system, the IMS subsystem, and by the objectives of the installation.
The minimum system configuration on which MRQ Version 2 has been
designed to operate consists of the following:
o All processors capable of supporting MVS/ESA (TM) with IMS/ESA
o One 9-track tape drive or one IBM 3480 tape unit, required for
installation and maintenance.
(TM) Trademark of International Business Machines Corporation.
PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: IMS/ESA MRQ Version 2 is designed to
operate with an MVS/ESA operating system that supports the following
IMS/ESA Transaction Manager versions:
o IMS/ESA Transaction Manager Version 3 (5665-409)
o IMS/ESA Transaction Manager Version 4 (5685-013).
IMS/ESA MRQ Version 2 will be installed by the system
modification program (SMP) and will require the following product for
o SMP/E Version 1 Release 5 (5740-XXH).
COMPATIBILITY: Code has been added to IMS/ESA Transaction Manager
Version 4 in support of MRQ Version 2. This code is not compatible
with the old MRQ product offering (5796-ATP). MRQ Version 1 should
not be used in the IMS/ESA Transaction Manager Version 4 environment.
Code supporting MRQ Version 2 has been added to IMS/ESA
Transaction Manager Version 3 Release 1. This code is compatible
with MRQ Version 1. MRQ Version 1 or MRQ Version 2 may be operated
in the IMS/ESA Transaction Manager Version 3 Release 1 environment.
USER GROUP REQUIREMENTS: This announcement satisfies or partially
satisfies seven requirements from one or more of the worldwide user
group communities, which include the following: Australasian
SHARE/GUIDE (ASG), COMMON, COMMON Europe, GUIDE International,
G.U.I.D.E. Europe, Japan GUIDE/SHARE (JGS), Guide Latin American
(LAG), SHARE EUROPE, and SHARE Incorporated. A list of satisfied
requirements include the following:
o SCIMSG80020 Message Requeuer must support SNAPQ
o SAIMSD89028 Message Requeuer should maintain the original USERID
o EBIMSN87010 Status Code "A4" for Message Requeuer
o GBIMSG79010 Message Requeuer improve CNT search techniques
o GBIMSG81074 Message Requeuer should requeue RACF (TM)
o GBIMSG81010 Exclude capability for Message Requeuer
o GBIMSG79011 Exclude for DUMPQ with Message Requeuer.
A PASR requirement was also satisfied. PASR -- RJEE297

SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
The announced program uses the security and auditability
features of the host hardware or software.
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
appropriate controls in application systems and communication
Orders for new licenses will be accepted now. Unless a later date is
specified, orders entered prior to the planned availability date will
be assigned a schedule date of July 2, 1993.
Shipment will commence on the planned availability date.
New users of MRQ Version 2 should specify:
BASIC LICENSE: To order a basic license, specify the program number
and feature number 9001 for asset registration. Specify feature
number 1310 for a monthly license charge or feature number 1311 for a
one-time charge. Specify the feature number of the desired
distribution medium shown below.
