DESCRIPTION
OPEN DOCUMENT INTERFACE
In heterogeneous environments, with different connected systems and
word processors, users need to interchange documents and handle
different types of data streams.  There are specialized
transformation products that provide advanced conversion packages.
The new application programming interface allows the use of
external document data stream transforms.  Transform vendors can use
this published interface to be called from DisplayWrite/370.
STRATEGIC ARCHITECTURES -- INDUSTRY STANDARDS
Customers are moving towards local area network (LAN) environments
and workstations.  Existing non-programmable terminals can now
co-exist with new workstation families.  In addition, transform
packages will evolve to include the support of industry standards
like Open Document Architecture (ODA).
INTEROPERABILITY IMPROVEMENTS
Large enterprises with their heterogeneous environments (mixed
hardware and software) have a great need to exchange documents of
various wordprocesssor data streams.  The transform capability
provides significant productivity improvements for document
interchange.
SAA CUA SUPPORT:  DisplayWrite/370 Version 2.2.0 complies with the
text subset of the SAA CUA '91 graphical model for non-programmable
terminals.
An actionbar is now provided.  Selection can be made via
cursor movement and Enter key.
IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY
Implementation of the CUA standard, used by an increasing number of
applications, ensures that the user receives all the benefits of
ease-of-use and consistency that CUA provides.
For example, through the use of the CUA text subset users are
provided with more consistency with OEM workstation products and with
workstation products of the DisplayWrite family.
Users will benefit from a comfortable and easy-to-use
interface.  Pop-up panels now appear from which the user can select
the desired option.  This will reduce the number of errors,
increasing the overall acceptance of the product.
SUPPORT OF ADDITIONAL PRINTERS:  The support of IBM PSF/2 with the
consistently architected, cross-platform features of Advanced
Function Printing (TM) (AFP (TM)) provides a solution for LAN
environments.
ADMINISTRATOR PRODUCTIVITY
Any option of the Logical Device Entries (LDE) is now allowed and
variables can be used to specify their values.  Variables offer more
flexibility to define printers to the network.  This minimizes the
high-administrative effort.
With the inclusion of SAA Core fonts, consistent fonts and
identical print layouts are provided for LAN printers and host
printers to improve productivity and quality.
INCREASED CAPACITY:  In addition to personal printer support for
CICS, DisplayWrite/370 Version 2.2.0 supports personal printers
locally attached to IBM 3472 InfoWindow (R) and IBM 3482 InfoWindow
displays in VM.
With PSF Version 2 in cooperation with PSF/2 it is now
possible to print DisplayWrite/370 documents on ASCII, IPDS (TM),
SCS, and PostScript (1) printers.
 (1) PostScript is a trademark of Adobe Systems, Incorporated.
SUPPORT FOR USER LIBRARIES:  For users of the CICS environment,
support of private user libraries for GDDM (TM) image and graphic
objects has been added.
SECURITY IMPROVEMENTS:  The introduction of new, private user
libraries provides greater efficiency and improves security for the
individual end-user.
IMPROVED PROBLEM DETERMINATION
With the new first failure data capture implementation, problem
related documentation (including the document) is captured after an
abnormal termination.
MANAGING MULTIPLE SYSTEMS
With additional trap routines, stability of the CICS system is
ensured and new print traces improve serviceability of the print
process.
IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY
Unique error codes with descriptive information of the error are
documented in the diagnosis guide.  This new capability provides an
easier problem determination and more efficiency for the end-user.
SYSTEMS APPLICATION ARCHITECTURE (R) (SAA):  The new release of
DisplayWrite/370 complies with the text subset of the graphical model
of SAA CUA '91 for non-programmable terminals.  SAA REXX (VM) is
implemented as an optional programming language.  The SAA Core fonts
are now supported.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
DisplayWrite/370's enhanced programmability functions for the easy
integration of line-of-business applications into a company's text
processing systems make this product very competitive for the
host-based, office systems in the MVS/CICS and VM/CMS environments.
Large enterprises continue to have heterogeneous environments
with a base of non-programmable terminals and need the host as a
synchronized point for their line of business applications.  They
require the ability to interchange documents across platforms and
handle different types of word processors with unique data streams.
EDUCATION SUPPORT
The appropriate curriculum will be updated, as necessary, to
include the enhancements in this announcement.
Details of the education support will be provided by product
availability through separate education announcements.
Descriptions of all classroom and self-study courses are
contained in the CATALOG OF IBM EDUCATION (G320-1244).
Call IBM Direct Education at the toll-free number,
800-IBM-TEACh (426-8322), for schedules and enrollments.

PRIMARY/ANNUAL LICENSE CHARGE:  Customers who pay a primary license
and an annual license charge for a licensed program receive
enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge.
Significant new functions may be offered as an optional feature and
charged for separately.  If a replacement program is announced and
the customer elects to license the replacement program for a one-time
or primary/annual license charge and replace the prior program, an
upgrade charge may apply.
The first payment consists of the primary license charge and
the annual license charge.  The annual license charge applies yearly
thereafter.
VARIABLE CHARGES:  The applicable graduated -or- processor-based
primary/annual license charge if applicable, or graduated monthly
license charge will be based on the group of the designated machine
on which the licensed program is licensed for use.  If the program is
designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed
above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.
For upgrades of primary/annual license charge licenses to a
machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference
in the then current charges between the two groups.  Annual license
charges will be prorated.  For downgrades of one-time or
primary/annual license charge licenses to a machine in a lower group,
there will be no adjustment or refund of primary license charges
paid.  Annual license charges will be prorated.
For upgrades or downgrades of monthly license charge licenses,
the monthly license charge applicable to the higher or lower group
will apply.
PROGRAM UPGRADE CHARGE:  Program upgrade charges will apply for
upgrades from DisplayWrite/370 Version 1 (5665-382) to
DisplayWrite/370 Version 2 (5685-101) and from DisplayWrite/370
Version 1 (5664-370) to DisplayWrite/370 Version 2 (5684-091).
The program upgrade charge applies to orders for the
replacement program when it replaces a prior program that was
obtained for a primary/annual license charge and is discontinued upon
installation of the new version.  If the prior program is not
discontinued, the full primary license charge applies to the
replacement program.  Annual license charges apply.
