Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability
Today, IBM announces support for the IBM 3827 and 3835 Page
Printers in Print Management Facility/MVS (PMF/MVS) Version 1
Release 1.1 via a Program Temporary Fix (PTF). PMF/MVS Version 1
Release 1.1 is a licensed program that provides software support for
the generation of Page Definitions, Form Definitions, and for the
modification of all-points-addressable fonts for use with the IBM
3800 Page Printer Models 3 and 6 and the IBM 3820 Page Printer.
Planned Availability Date: March 25, 1988
Customer Letter Section
PMF/MVS is enhanced to support the new IBM 3827 and 3835 Page
Printers. This enhancement, shipped as a PTF, will remove the
explicit printer device names from the panels presented to the user.
PMF/MVS will, instead, refer to various printer devices generically.
Therefore, this enhancement will allow PMF/MVS to support not only
the new IBM printers, but also any future printer that uses the same
bounded-box font structure.
PMF/MVS Version 1 Release 1.1 currently supports the
unbounded-box format of fonts for the 3800 Page Printer Models 3 and
6, and the bounded-box format of fonts for the IBM 3820 Page Printer.
Changes in the help screens will reflect the new generic
printer terminology. References to 3800 Page Printer Models 3 and 6
fonts will be stated on the user panels as simply unbounded ("UB",
"U", and "3800M3" will also be accepted as user input). References
to all other current Advanced Function Printing (AFP) printer fonts
will be stated on the user panels as simply bounded ("BB", "B", and
"3820" will also be accepted as user input).
General availability for this PTF is planned for
March 25, 1988.
SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
Machine, programming, and storage requirements for PMF/MVS are
not affected by this enhancement.
For additional information on PMF/MVS Version 1 Release 1.1, refer
to IBM Programming Announcement 285-053, dated February 12, 1985.
Current licensees of PMF/MVS will automatically receive this
enhancement via a PTF.
