IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 capabilities are designed to help satisfy the demand of users who require the highest performance from the graphical user interface (GUI), for any number of users concurrently connected, and for any size of workload monitored.

IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 provides a robust web-based GUI integrated with JazzSM Dashboard interface, with new additional views used to filter on the desired quantity of information and go into investigation mode more quickly and efficiently.

IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 is built on a solid foundation to model and orchestrate business flows and continues to deliver value. On that solid foundation, it adds integration with leading-edge applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and IBM SmartCloud family products, to model and orchestrate increasingly heterogeneous flows and map complex business scenarios.

The Tivoli® Dynamic Workload Console offers customization capabilities to help satisfy the most demanding needs. IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler provides compliance with FIPS 140-2 (standard protocol for US security requirements on cryptographic modules). The compliance with FIPS 140-2 can be optionally made active in the product.

Plug-ins for key applications

IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 can help control a large range of applications. Taking advantage of the protocol published in the previous release, a strong community is flourishing. SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 now integrates with IBM Netezza® , IBM Sterling Connect:Direct® , and IBM InfoSphere® BigInsights™ . A new plug-in to drive SAP Process Integration (PI) channels has been created. All these extensions appear right on the user interface and give clues to the business user so the user can write jobs more efficiently and more securely.

In addition to business plug-ins, IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 provides integration with IBM SmartCloud Provisioning. The extended capabilities of IBM SmartCloud Provisioning to instantiate virtual environment templates, to stop and start individual machines and whole templates, and to control the evolution of such templates can now be driven from SmartCloud Workload Automation flows, and integrated with any other application or system action.

IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 helps drive job execution on Microsoft™ Windows™ without having to install any agent on the server. The remote job plug-in offers connectivity based on user credential and remote protocol access.

Application templates

In order to facilitate the sharing and the promotion of sets of SmartCloud Workload Automation objects (defined to map a business scenario), a new concept of application template has been created. An application template is a set of SmartCloud Workload Automation objects (for example jobstreams, jobs, dependencies) that must be defined to deliver a business service. The application template, once defined, can be exported, customized, and imported into another environment out of community library sites, in order to accelerate the sharing of best practices.

Self-service catalog interface

In addition to the rich Dynamic Workload Console dedicated to power users and specialized operators, SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 contains a simplified business interface formatted for mobile devices. In the new interface, existing jobstream assets are reformatted as friendly service items, organized in a typical catalog structure. The business user can browse the catalog, pick a service, firm up its running parameters, and launch a personal instance of that service, with the possibility to simply track the progress until completion, or until some error prevents the normal end of a job. You can define which users have the privilege to access certain parts in the catalog.

Workload service assurance alerts and reports

The Workload Service Assurance feature provides a mapping of service level objectives. In IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1, these objectives are monitored by the product as before, but now alerts can be generated automatically when a critical job changes status (for example from potential risk to high risk) or when a job on the critical path is automatically given higher priority by the system in order to speed up the execution to support the Service Level Agreement (SLA). Those alerts can help to prevent SLA breaches. When the critical workloads have been executed, SLA fulfillment is tracked so users can easily identify the SLA breaches.

Runcycle groups

The expression of calendar rules is one of the most powerful and traditional part of SmartCloud Workload Automation.

It is key to describe when the jobs will be ran. New calendar rules are permanent. This means that they can be written once, and do not need to be changed annually.

The new runcycle groups describe runcycles as a separate object, so that the same set of runcycles can be shared by multiple jobstreams, part of the same application, or can be combined to form more complex runcycles describing, for instance, the twelfth working day of the month, or the day located five days before the third Sunday of the month. The runcycle groups are also very useful to simulate expression from competitive products directly into the constructs of IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation, thus allowing an easier and more guaranteed migration.

Minimal and maximum job duration

When the actual job duration deviates from the expected job duration, recovery actions, predefined by the user, are automatically taken. It is then easier to spot runaway jobs, jobs processing empty files instead of correct data, and a whole range of anomalous conditions that could otherwise damage the quality of processes.

Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC)

OSLC is a standardization effort to facilitate the exchange of data among software lifecycle tools. It has been recognized as a key effort to build wide ranging and long lasting integration among very different tools. IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 provides OSLC integration both ways, as a provider of automation services, and as a consumer of OSLC automation services inside any type of flow.

Fully automated failover policies

IBM Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms provides reliability and automated failover to all distributed environments. With IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1, you get policies describing how to best failover parts of a SmartCloud Workload Automation server to a backup location. These policies integrate the most advanced internal knowledge of how the building blocks have to be started in order to provide a seamless transition.

Multigroup security rights attribution

IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation has always assigned security rights to users by first mapping a user to a role, then granting the rights defined in that role. In the modern IT organization structure that was not sufficient anymore, since users could take several roles or change role frequently, even according to regular time shifts in a follow-the-sun setup. With V9.1, IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation provides a way to define pieces of rights attribution under different roles, and then assign these roles to users in flexible, many-to-many mapping.

Monthly Jobs

Monthly Jobs is a unit of measure by which the IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation program can be licensed. A Job is an object within the IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation program that cannot be further divided and represents a computing process including all its sub-processes. The customer licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements to cover the maximum number of Jobs processed or managed by IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation in any calendar month.

Job Count Tracking

IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler provides a function that will track every launched job historically, and retains it for query and reporting purposes.

The metric for job counting must be applied to the entire environment managed by a single Master Domain Manager, represented by the production of a single plan covering the entire managed network.

Licensing

IBM SmartCloud Workload Automation V9.1 license entitlement is based on counting the number of executed jobs.

Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date Software Subscription and Support (SW S&S) renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. New software purchases will initially include twelve full months of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance). Software Subscription and Support in the second year (the first year of renewal) can be prorated to be coterminous with your common anniversary date. IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Servers enabled with this tool can be monitored remotely around the clock by IBM Support all at no additional cost to you.

Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX® V5.3, AIX V6.1, and AIX V7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM , which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24 x 7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM . The Electronic Service Agent tool securely transmits either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewable only by the customer and IBM . The customer's business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM .

More accurate reporting: Since system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, customers are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM , problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, customers can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent . Reports are available for any system associated with the customer's IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, customers are able to see search results that apply specifically to their systems.
