Organizations can use IBM Network Advisor V12.0 to provide a unified management experience designed to enable better coordination between storage and data networking administrators for provisioning, troubleshooting, and reporting. Although every network type has unique management requirements, many are standardizing their operational processes and policies, seeking ways to more proactively address availability and performance issues. IBM Network Advisor V12 greatly simplifies daily operations while improving the performance and reliability of the overall SAN and converged networking environments.

To address such issues, IBM Network Advisor V12.0 is designed to provide a comprehensive network management solution for data, storage, and converged networks. It supports FC SANs, including 16 Gbps FC platforms and b-type FCoE networks. As a result, it provides end-to-end visibility across different network types within a single application. In addition, it supports comprehensive lifecycle management capabilities across different networks through a seamless and unified user experience.

IBM Network Advisor V12.0 provides key capabilities, including:

IBM Network Advisor V12.0 can help organizations reduce network downtime through capabilities such as real-time and historical performance monitoring, fault isolation, change management, and policy-driven remedial actions. Proactive alerts with real-time logging, diagnostic, and fault isolation capabilities help resolve issues before they impact SLAs with the following features:

Leveraging its comprehensive Dashboard, users have an at-a-glace view into the performance, events, and inventory in the storage area network. This Dashboard is highly-customizable on a per-user basis. From the Dashboard, IBM Network Advisor enables users to manage and monitor their networks, regardless of network type.

For all b-type SAN switches, including 16 Gbps Fibre Channel platforms, IBM Network Advisor provides detailed monitoring of port and link utilization against predefined and user-configurable thresholds to optimize network performance.

IBM Network Advisor V12.0 is designed to offer comprehensive SAN management features across configuration and monitoring, including support for firmware management and technical SupportSave via SFTP/SCP, bottleneck detection, SFP historical trending support, FICON Port Decommissioning, Boot LUN Zoning, bulk port configuration, and reporting for adapters.

Built on a standards-based architecture, IBM Network Advisor V12.0 can scale from small network islands to large, geographically dispersed networks. Organizations can reduce operational expenditures by leveraging the same management solution across different environments, including data center, enterprise campus, and service provider networks.

IBM Network Advisor V12.0 is available with flexible package and licensing options for a wide range of network deployments and for future network expansion. The IBM Network Advisor V12.0 Pro Plus feature is licensed to manage up to 36 fabrics and 2560 ports, while the Enterprise option can manage up to 36 fabrics and 9000 ports. A path is also being offered to customers using the Pro Plus feature to upgrade for a fee to the Enterprise option. At the time of the upgrade, the remainder of the Maintenance and Support of the Pro Plus feature will be forfeited.

IBM Network Advisor V12.0 provides a nondisruptive path and functional continuity for organizations that are upgrading from IBM Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM) or IBM Network Advisor V11.

IBM Network Advisor upgrade features

IBM provides IT organizations with functional continuity when upgrading from IBM Network Advisor V11.1 to IBM Network Advisor V12.0.

Refer to the Description section for details and requirements.

Customer responsibilities

Installation of the IBM System Storage® Network Advisor V12.0 on a customer-supplied server is the customer responsibility. In addition to provisions of the hardware requirements and software requirements stated in this announcement, the IBM System Storage Network Advisor SAN User Manual SC27-5423-00 and IBM System Storage Network Advisor Installation and Migration Guide SC27-5422-00 should be reviewed during installation.

Users migrating to IBM Network Advisor V12.0 from a previous instance of Data Center Fabric Manager or Network Advisor V11 software installations need to verify that the correct version is installed prior to migrating to IBM Network Advisor V12.0. For information about upgrading that meets migration requirements, refer to the IBM System Storage Network Advisor Installation and Migration Guide SC27-5422-00. FOS versions may also need to be upgraded on supported switches and directors.

Customers requiring migration assistance from existing versions of Data Center Fabric Manager or Network Advisor V11 software should contact the service organizations from which they are currently receiving support.

The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage® Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at
