Description
Bottom rule

With extensive instrumentation across production environments, equipment, and a variety of systems, the need for intelligent operations requires improving integrated business process management and visualization in a common context. Integrated Information Core is designed to help interconnect and improve operations through a non-disruptive approach for accessing disparate and dispersed systems and assets and delivering information to key users and systems in a context ideal for taking smarter action and improving business process execution. This capability helps customers improve operational visibility to predictably deliver on production commitments, increase flexibility of operations, better leverage high-skilled resources across sites, improve asset availability, and optimize production through dynamic, interconnected processes.

Integrated Information Core helps transform the way businesses view and interact with assets and operations while enabling enterprise-wide analytics and process optimization. Integrated Information Core can be used by customers across a variety of industries including Chemical and Petroleum, Automotive, Aerospace and Defense, Mining, Heavy Equipment, Energy and Utilities, Military/Government, and consumer packaged goods to integrate systems, enhance enterprise visibility, and gain insights to help improve bottom-line business performance.

Integrated Information Core allows customers to integrate data from production systems through a common, model-based view of the enterprise. Businesses can integrate operational solutions to the enterprise with common processes and services to:

Integration Information Core provides a framework that makes it much simpler to connect real-time operational data and related enterprise applications through a model of the real world. The architecture delivers this capability through a semantic model that provides a fundamental context for data. The semantic model is based on industry standards (such as ISA-95 and ISA-88) and enables modeling of an enterprise, its sites, and assets down to the specific measurements on individual equipment.

What is new and updated in Version 1.5

Model Manager

Integrated Information Core includes a new Model Manager, which allows you to integrate operational data across disparate systems to improve visibility. The new Model Manager hosts a more open and extensible semantic model of the enterprise and operations providing an abstraction layer over operational systems to improve flexibility and agility. The Model Manager allows users to create, store, query, update, import, and export models. Through the model management process, models and associated updates are automatically versioned and can be saved, promoted, and restored to support the progression through development, test, and production deployment. Integrated Information Core provides a base reference semantic model, supporting key industry standards (ISA-95, ISA-88 and ISO-15926), which can be extended or replaced as needed.

Model-driven data access

Integrated Information Core provides adapters for integrating data from Open Productivity and Connectivity (OPC) servers, Web Services, and databases through the model view of the enterprise. The adapters allow integration of existing systems without the need to rip and replace while providing a standardized, consistent view of underlying systems. The OPC Client and Server adapters provide interfaces for accessing and exposing traditional OPC data through the model.

Advanced visualization and analytics

Integrated Information Core includes one Authorized User of IBM Intelligent Operations Center. Intelligent Operations Center provides advanced analytics and visualization tools to enable insights into the operational environment via centralized information. It delivers capabilities to visualize enterprise-wide operations through KPIs, trends, analyses, and business rules across sites and organizational boundaries.

SPARQL support

Integrated Information Core now allows applications to query and update the model using the industry standard SPARQL Query Language.

KPIs

KPIs help gauge the performance of assets, equipment, and processes through a simplified view of real-time measurement values. They are derived from one or more measurement values from assets or equipment which are collected and processed through a defined algorithm and can be scheduled to recalculate at regular intervals. KPI values are displayed in the Solution Studio and can also be subscribed to by other interested applications.

Federation

Federation enables a consolidated view of operations for end-users and enterprise applications across multiple instances of Integrated Information Core. Federation provides a conceptual layer on top of multiple Model Managers to provide a common interface layer for applications to access measurement data throughout the enterprise. Federation of models enables improved scalability and can also be used to segregate the model to support span of control issues from an organizational perspective. The topology supports multiple tiers of federating and federated nodes allowing the entire enterprise model to be explored through a single Model Manager. Integrated Information Core supports federation across same version nodes and V1.4 nodes.

Solution Studio enhancements

The Solution Studio provides new capabilities to create, configure, and visualize KPIs to gain insights into how assets and equipment are performing. It also provides the ability to modify the pallet of asset symbols and their associated rules providing greater flexibility and extensibility to support new industry models.

Security enhancements

New security enhancements enable greater flexibility and better control of data through more granular authentication and authorization for model services as well as access to individual data elements within the model. Using an LDAP-based security model, users are granted access to different capabilities and data via role and context-based security.

Integrated Information Core Enterprise Edition also provides an audit trail for all modifications to the model including updates, modifications, and deletions to capture historical changes for greater traceability and accountability.

Improved consumability

Several significant enhancements are made to improve the user experience and the overall consumability of the system.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User accessing the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case, the following applies. Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the program or that is otherwise managed by the program is considered a separate user of the program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Resource Value Unit (RVU)

RVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. RVU entitlements are based on the quantity of a specific designated measurement for the given program. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of RVUs required for your environment as defined by the specific program terms. The RVU entitlements are specific to the program and may include, but are not limited to the following: Client Devices, data source records, messages, and servers, and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with RVU entitlements of another program. To understand these benefits of RVU licensing, and to determine how many RVUs to obtain for the program, contact your IBM representative.

The resources used for the purpose of RVU calculation is the total number of Feeds accessed or managed by the program.

Feed

A Feed is a stream of machine-readable information that is supplied to the program by an external entity or Asset. An Asset is any tangible resource or item of value to be managed, including production equipment, facilities, transportation, IT hardware and software.

Licensee must obtain entitlements for the total number of Feeds accessed or managed by the program.
