Overview
Bottom rule

IBM InfoSphere Discovery for z/OS, V4.6 offers the following new capabilities:

  • Tighter integration and consistency with other InfoSphere products to streamline usage and transition between tools while promoting collaboration among team members:
    • Integration with IBM InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager provides direct access from within InfoSphere Discovery. The enhanced integration capability helps you import connection data and metadata from Xmeta, and generate data models into Xmeta from within InfoSphere Discovery.
    • Archiving volume projection with IBM InfoSphere Optim helps you predict the savings achievable by archiving a data object using a filter.
    • Fuzzy value matching for sensitive data classification offers more flexibility in identifying sensitive elements, eliminating the need to identify an exact match.
  • User productivity enhancements throughout the product design further increase productivity:
    • The new custom algorithms creation wizard helps you create, test, and deploy custom algorithms. Algorithms can be deployed to a project or shared with other projects.
    • Selective classification and algorithm level thresholding provides more control over algorithm selection, eliminating the need to run all algorithms as in previous versions.
  • Improved performance of binding condition discovery as compared to the previous release
  • Additional enhancements and updates to support additional platforms and database management systems, including IDMS through InfoSphere Classic Federation Server, IBM Netezza®, IBM Database Encryption Expert, and Oracle Transparent Data Encryption

InfoSphere Discovery for z/OS, V4.6 is a recommended upgrade for all users of earlier versions of the product.

Description
Bottom rule

InfoSphere Discovery for z/OS, V4.6 helps you accelerate information-centric project deployment and reduce risk by creating a comprehensive view of data relationships across heterogeneous sources.

Before you implement any information-centric project such as archiving, data privacy, master data management (MDM), data warehousing, data lineage, or application data consolidation, you must know what data you have, where the data is located, and how the data is related between different systems.

For most organizations, the data discovery and analysis process is very manual, requiring months of human involvement to discover business objects, sensitive data, cross-source data relationships, and transformation logic. It results in a time-consuming and error-prone process that slows time-to-value, establishes doubt in the accuracy of the data within a new system, and creates the possibility that the new system never succeeds in becoming operational.

InfoSphere Discovery for z/OS, V4.6 provides a wide range of capabilities to help you automate the analysis process to go well beyond data profiling by performing sophisticated analysis that generates actionable results such as displaying a side-by-side preview of matching data across multiple sources. You can leverage these capabilities to automate single-source profiling, cross-source data overlap analysis, matching key discovery, prototyping and testing for data consolidation, and transformation discovery.

The InfoSphere Discovery analysis process helps you understand your data sources and how they relate to each other, generating actionable output that can be immediately consumed and put into action by other IBM products. A few examples include:

  • Archive, test data management, and data privacy: InfoSphere Discovery for z/OS, V4.6 helps you identify business objects and sensitive data elements that can be directly consumed via export to IBM Optim software for data archiving, test data management, and data privacy.
  • Data migration, consolidation, and master data management: The Unified Schema Builder and Transformation Analyzer output delivers the matching keys, transformation logic, and consolidation rules that can be used by the InfoSphere DataStage® extract, transform, and load (ETL) process and InfoSphere MDM Server to move or consolidate data.
  • Data integration: The Transformation Analyzer component helps you discover the de facto business rules that relate two data sources in your existing distributed data landscape. It then outputs actionable transformation logic that can be used by InfoSphere DataStage to move data from a source to a target.

Accessibility by people with disabilities

Product positioning
Bottom rule

InfoSphere Discovery for z/OS, V4.6 provides distinguished capabilities in the data discovery and analysis space. It helps you understand your data sources and how they relate to each other, generating actionable output that can be immediately consumed and put into action by other IBM products.

The clear understanding of data and data relationships gained by using InfoSphere Discovery for z/OS, V4.6 can be applied to several types of integration projects. For example, managing data growth and determining how to archive a complete business object allows you to properly handle sensitive or private data elements in conjunction with IBM InfoSphere Optim solutions for data growth and test data management.

Additionally, the clear understanding of the data gained via InfoSphere Discovery for z/OS, V4.6 is directly applicable to data integration projects such as data warehouse, master data, and consolidation projects. Understanding how data is related, lets you more rapidly determine which data to move, how to transform the data, and how to correct data quality concerns before delivering that data via InfoSphere Information Server to your new project target.

For each System z® IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The System z IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

Value Unit exhibit VUE007

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected System z IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Translation from MSUs to Value Units

          MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00

Total 1,500 343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
