Overview
Bottom rule

The IBM InfoSphere Identity Insight solution leverages identity and social network analysis to provide true insight for threat and fraud analysis. For data to be useful, it must be put into context. InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 is a powerful identity and social network analysis platform that combines pioneering identity and relationship disambiguation technology with innovative event processing capabilities to quickly and automatically provide that context. By examining relevant individuals, their relationships and their actions, InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 is designed to enable a comprehensive picture of who a person is, who the person knows, and what the person does.

The first step is identity matching. Once InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 determines that two or more identities are the same, it integrates the multiple records into a single entity and assigns a unique identifier. All of the data about the person or organization stays with this new identifier. The platform can even help you identify the source records that provide the original information.

Next, the InfoSphere Identity Insight platform performs a thorough relationship network analysis. It uses the entity data generated during the previous step to learn whether people are, or ever have been, related in any way.

InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 uses an advanced transaction analysis method called complex event processing to gain a clear picture of what entities and entity networks are doing based on transactional data.

This process is designed to mine the overall information landscape in real time, bringing to light all of the associations and occurrences involving the same person or a group. If a questionable situation or pattern is detected, the system proactively generates alerts.

Core capabilities

IBM InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 delivers the following core functions to help you identify threats and combat fraud:

  • Full attribution: InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 accumulates a history as opposed to a snapshot of each individual or company in this database over time. By retaining all relevant record information, the resolution process becomes more accurate because there is more data with which to make comparisons.
  • Real-time changes: When a record is received, InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 immediately compares it with its database to see if it resolves an existing record, is new and requires the creation of a new record, or requires an unresolve of an existing record, in which case two new virtual consolidations are created automatically.
  • Sequence neutral: Where traditional methods match against a consolidated record rather than its originating elements, InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 processes input records in such a way as to significantly reduce the dependency on the order that records are received.
  • Analysis of any attribute: In InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1, every attribute of an entity is indexed, which is not normally the case when using traditional methods. This means that you can quickly and efficiently search the repository by phone number, address, or anything else that distinguishes the records under examination.
  • Self-healing and self-correcting: InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 examines and updates any entity in the repository that would be affected based on new observations.
  • Relationship resolution: InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 compares addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and any other characteristics it can discover across multiple individuals. Because it leverages all specified identity attributes, InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 helps resolve relationships with multiple linkage points. Using intelligent data analysis, it prevents overmatching on frequently occurring data values.
  • Recognize digital identities: In today's world, some of the most disturbing criminal activities occur in the digital world. InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 can resolve information from the organization including event records, employee and vendor records, log files, cookies, and IP addresses.
  • Degrees of separation: This feature allows you to extend the recognition of undeclared affinity groups and networks of identities across customers, employees, suppliers, other involved people, and so on by evaluating relationships. The sensitivity is defined by the user, well beyond a single degree and up to 30 degrees of separation.
  • Enterprise discovery: InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 provides insight at the ingestion of data streams for real-time discovery. New observations are reconciled and related to historical data. Context and discovery accumulate incrementally in real time. Insight is pushed to users: users do not have to pose smart questions to obtain valuable insight into identities and relationships.

New features

InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 delivers new features that simplify how the insights from Identity Insight are consumed by users and systems. A few of the most important new features include:

  • New user experience: InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 offers a completely new and adaptable user experience. This thin-client environment (based on IBM Cognos® Business Intelligence (BI) 10 and IBM ILOG® Visualization technology) enables exploration and investigation in a self-contained environment or as components in other applications. This user environment is highly adaptable and extendable to terminology, business, and reporting processes specific to each organization. The visual investigative functions offer new tools to explore an entity network.
  • Improved searching: InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 introduces a new thin-client-based searching capability that combines pipeline and attribute searches without requiring the user to decide what to do.
  • Smarter alerts: InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 is distinguished in that the real-time creation of identity and social network raises user alerts when suspicious patterns are identified. InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 introduces changes to the alert infrastructure to proactively manage alerts as data changes and reduce the deployment and administrative burden of the current alert framework.
  • Web services: InfoSphere Identity Insight V8.1 offers an improved web services framework where more create, read, update, and delete functionality is handled using standards-based web services.

Charge metrics definitions

Install

Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each install of the program.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the following website and the number of processors made available to the program.

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores

Licensee can deploy the Program using either Full Capacity licensing or Virtualization Capacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to web page below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores1 in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_specific_virtualization_technologies.html

1 An Activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes:

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies: In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies: Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies: Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.
  • Express® and Workgroup programs may be licensed with maximum use terms. In that case, the following applies: The maximum authorized use terms and conditions for PVU licensed IBM Express and Middleware Programs can be found in the IBM Express and Middleware Licensing Guide.

Resource Value Unit (RVU)

Resource Value Unit (RVU) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The RVU Proofs of Entitlement are based on the number of units of a specific resource used or managed by the program. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements for the number of RVUs required for licensee's environment as specified in the tables below. The RVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with the RVU entitlements of another program.

IBM InfoSphere Identity Insight Program license structure is based on a combined Processor Value Unit (PVU) and Resource Value Unit (RVU) licensing model. InfoSphere Identity Insight Program licensing requires Licensee to obtain licenses sufficient to cover all the processors (processor cores) available to the server and the required number of RVUs. Each InfoSphere Identity Insight program has a unique price per RVU. Licensee may not exceed the level of PVUs or RVUs as defined in Licensee's Proof of Entitlement (PoE). An alternative to the combined RVU and PVU licensing structure is to license the InfoSphere Identity Insight program per installation with unlimited source records. The units of measure for this program are Data Source Records (DSR) and applications.

First, licensee must determine the number of DSR units the licensee will use the program to manage. A DSR unit is equivalent to 1,000,000 DSRs.

Next, licensee must determine the RVUs based on the number of DSR units the licensee will use the program to manage. To determine licensee's RVUs, licensee use Table 1 for 1-2 applications, Table 2 for 3-5 applications, and Table 3 for 6 or more applications.

Data Source Record resource levels

For application resource levels for a minimum of one application and a maximum of two applications, refer to the RVU conversion Table 1:

Resource definitions

Data Source Records (DSR) are discrete associations with the specific identity of a person, organization, place, or thing. A DSR is defined by an externally supplied unique identifier and one or more identifying data elements to be entered into the program. A DSR may be updated within the program through subsequent entries using the original supplied unique identifier. The number of DSRs, Licensee must license, includes all data entered into the program from any data source. DSRs that are expired, deleted, or do not contain identifying data elements are not counted in the calculation. Updates to existing DSRs are also not counted in the calculation.

Applications (also called user programs) are any functional software program that will accept direct output from the InfoSphere Identity Insight program. Examples include, but are not limited to, InfoSphere Identity Insight Visualizer, case management applications, investigative dashboards, or customer relationship management (CRM) programs.
