Description
Bottom rule

The enhancements delivered in WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 are as follows:

  • Comprehensive support for Microsoft .NET environments

WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 dramatically improves the ease of development for Microsoft .NET solutions with enhanced connectivity and a new tightly integrated development tooling experience with Microsoft Visual Studio. This enables clients to take advantage of existing Microsoft .NET skills and assets and opens up a wealth of possibilities for connecting .NET applications using the proven scalability and availability of WebSphere Message Broker. Clients may choose to integrate new or existing .NET applications directly within WebSphere Message Broker flows and integrate with existing Component Object Model (COM) applications to unlock data held in Microsoft business applications and customer relationship management (CRM) suites.

With direct support for many of the languages supported by the Microsoft Common Language Runtime (CLR), WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 enables users to invoke programs written in a wealth of languages including COM, JScript, Visual Basic, and C#.

Developers can create the logic for their own WebSphere Message Broker .NET nodes directly within the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment, which can be launched from WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit. Developer aids, such as Visual studio plug-ins and node templates, simplify development and switching between the two development environments. To view .NET artifacts is as simple as a "double click".

With access to the full breadth of WebSphere Message Broker functionality and message trees, and the ability to develop and debug in a Microsoft Visual Studio .NET environment using familiar application programming interfaces (APIs), WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 ensures that clients can take full advantage of both their existing .NET skills and software investment.

  • Enhanced audit of in-flight data with new edit, record, and replay capability

The ability to understand and monitor the data flowing across corporate networks is becoming an imperative for many organizations. With the increase in regulatory requirements many large organizations are implementing more extensive audit capabilities for data in their network to capture data as part of a system of record.

Additionally, with operational costs under more scrutiny, and users expecting ever faster turnaround times, the ability to quickly identify and correct erroneous data to prevent downstream processing problems, and lost or delayed orders, can translate into improved efficiency and customer satisfaction.

The edit, record, and replay capabilities in WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 provide new and powerful browser based tooling which allows suitably authorized users and administrators to view, edit, record, and replay data flowing through the broker from all sources, including messaging, web services, and Enterprise Information Systems.

Secure role-based access for end users, auditors, and administrators ensures that users can only view in-transit data of relevance to them, and administrators can control access to restricted data through the use of predefined filters, including masking of sensitive data within a payload.

Using configurable filters, users can search for specific data using a number of different criteria, including transaction type and ID, as well as payload information. Once found, the data of interest may be stored unchanged for audit purposes in any of the WebSphere Message Broker supported applications or databases. Alternatively, users may choose to edit the data to correct errors before reprocessing via existing WebSphere Message Broker flows.

  • Direct connectivity to IBM Sterling Connect: Direct

Many organizations have chosen IBM Sterling Connect: Direct for processing file based data, both within their business and in communicating with business partners. In order to support connectivity between these file based networks and messaging, or other enterprise applications, WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 introduces new integrated nodes and developer aids for connecting to IBM Sterling Connect: Direct.

By utilizing WebSphere Message Broker as the bridge, clients not only can take advantage of the broad range of connectivity, routing, and transformation capabilities offered by WebSphere Message Broker, but can gain end-to-end visibility of file and message traffic across the business network.

WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 provides common transformation patterns on the toolkit palette for rapid integration between the file and messaging based networks. Common patterns, such as conversion of a batch of records to or from WebSphere MQ messages, are provided out-of-the box to support rapid development of flows.

  • New parser and graphical data mapper tooling for text and binary data

Data within a business environment takes numerous different forms, ranging from database records to structured text and XML, as well as raw binary formats common across many applications. The ability to quickly model and transform this data into new formats can provide faster processing across business boundaries and unlock significant potential in previously unused sources of valuable customer information.

In addition to the existing WebSphere Message Broker Parser capability (MRM), WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 introduces a new DFDL-based parser which provides an open standard-based, efficient means of accessing, parsing, and transforming data held in many different formats with a focus on text and binary data.

Using the DFDL standard, clients may choose to build their own custom transforms. These either can be outside of the WebSphere Message Broker environment for use across their business applications, or can take full advantage of new integrated Graphical tooling within WebSphere Message Broker to speed development.

Developers can take advantage of improved usability when creating models for text and binary data, through new guided authoring wizards. They also have the ability to create models by marking up example data. Additionally, model definitions can be developed and tested fully in the WebSphere Message Broker toolkit environment without deploying to a running broker instance.

  • Reliable communication with Web Services Reliable Messaging

As companies expand their use of web services and XML communications, provision of reliability is increasingly important in both internal and business-to-business scenarios. For certain services, delivery of SOAP messages needs to be assured, without duplication, and when connections or endpoints are temporarily unavailable.

WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 allows WS-RM to be configured on a Message Broker flow. This is an administrative task that does not affect the flow design. An enhanced policy set editor allows customization of WS-RM behavior, including whether message order within a sequence should be maintained.

  • New Hypervisor Edition for IBM AIX

WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition V8.0 for IBM AIX supports deployment of WebSphere Message Broker virtual images into PowerVM™ environments. It includes WebSphere Message Broker V8.0, WebSphere MQ V7.0.1, and the IBM AIX operating system for use with PowerVM environments. This offering can be dispensed to easily deploy and manage messaging solutions in a private cloud and can help reduce installation and configuration time to rapidly deploy WebSphere Message Broker messaging solutions.

WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition is already available in a number of configurations, and the WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition V8.0 for IBM AIX now supports deployment of WebSphere Message Broker virtual images into PowerVM environments.

Using WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition enables better utilization of hardware and faster response to demands for newly deployed systems. This can help to reduce the costs of both hardware and software operation and maintenance costs. By deploying virtual images, businesses can also ensure that systems are built with a known, stable, and tested configuration, reducing the potential for errors and ensuring rapid deployment of a working system, whether for development, test, or production.

New and renamed modes of operation

The new Express Edition complements the existing modes of operation available to licensed clients. The mode of operation may be selected at any time, subject to purchase license entitlement. Existing clients may select any mode of operation at the time of deploying a broker and are not required to reinstall their existing WebSphere Message Broker media. WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 offers:

  • Express Edition provides an entry-level starting point to deploy an ESB with the option to grow to full function and performance. It has restricted features and is limited to one process (execution group).
  • Standard Edition offers a full-feature mode of operation, but is limited to one process. This edition provides an intermediate ESB with the ability to grow as your business needs increase. It was previously named Starter Edition.
  • Advanced Edition is the full-feature edition of WebSphere Message Broker with no function or capability restrictions imposed. It is the default mode of operation. It was previously named Enterprise Edition.

Hypervisor Editions for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and IBM AIX comprise a combination of WebSphere Message Broker Enterprise Edition, WebSphere MQ, and the operating system compatible with the supported hypervisor, optimized to run in server virtualization environments.

Remote Adapter Deployment (RAD) Edition enables deployment of adapters for connecting to applications and other data sources, including databases.

Planning information

Customer responsibilities

You must provide at least the minimum hardware and software environments in which the licensed programs operate.

Problem determination (PD) is a customer responsibility. PD is an assessment of whether a problem is caused by hardware or software. It is complete only when the cause of the problem is identified. This assessment includes examination of available symptoms using the PD procedures documented in the product.

Problem source identification (PSI) is a customer responsibility. PSI begins when software is determined to be the source of the problem. It includes tracing the source of the program to a host system control program (SCP), an application program, or another source. Assisting the client with PSI is an IBM service and support responsibility.

WebSphere Adapters

WebSphere Adapters V7.0 for SAP, Siebel, PeopleSoft, and JD Edwards are provided with WebSphere Message Broker. Usage is licensed free of charge as part of the Message Broker Toolkit. For non-development purposes, you must purchase a separate license entitlement for the appropriate WebSphere Adapter being deployed. Refer to the WebSphere Message Broker license text for details of program-unique terms. Refer to the Ordering information section for the license part numbers.

Charge metrics definitions for WebSphere Adapters:

  • Per application instance. An entitlement is required for each instance of the adapter. An adapter in a test, development, staging, or production environment is each considered to be a separate instance of the application and each must have an entitlement (unless covered by the license for Message Broker toolkit). As well, multiple application instances in a single environment are each considered to be separate instances of the application and each must have an entitlement.
  • Per establishment. An establishment is a single physical site including the surrounding campus and satellite offices located within 50 kilometers (31 miles) of licensee's site address. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each establishment at or for which the adapter will be used. Licensee is permitted to deploy an unlimited number of copies of the adapter within the establishment. An entitlement for an establishment is unique to that establishment and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent closing of the establishment.

Refer to the standard license text for each of the supported WebSphere Adapters V7.0 as follows:

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. The PVU table can be found at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the web page below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the Program, except for those servers from which the Program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the Program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_specific_virtualization_technologies.html

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes:

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies. Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.

Bottom rule

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

This product is available only via Passport Advantage. It is not available as shrinkwrap.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

The IBM WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition V8.0 program includes entitlement for the IBM WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 program, providing flexibility in adoption of virtualized environments. This includes authorization to use any combination of the WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition and WebSphere Message Broker programs up to the level of use specified in your proof of entitlement for WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition. When using the WebSphere Message Broker program, you must have a separate license and support entitlement for the operating system. The operating system included in the WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition offering is restricted to support of that program.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at

http://www.ibm.com/support/handbook

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

IBM WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition V8.0 includes entitlement for the IBM WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 program. When using the IBM WebSphere Message Broker program, you must have a separate license and support entitlement for the operating system. The operating system included in the WebSphere Message Broker Hypervisor Edition offering is restricted to support of the virtualized product edition.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

IBM WebSphere MQ

The Program includes a copy of IBM WebSphere MQ V7.0.1. Licensee is authorized to install and use IBM WebSphere MQ V7.0.1 on a limited basis in association with Licensee's use of the Program components, as follows:

  • For every deployment of the Broker Runtime component, Licensee is authorized to install and use one copy of IBM WebSphere MQ V7.0.1 in accordance with the terms and conditions of that program.
  • That copy of IBM WebSphere MQ V7.0.1 may be used only for messages generated or consumed by the components of the Program, and not for any other purpose.
  • To use IBM WebSphere MQ V7.0.1 for any other purpose, Licensee must acquire a separate (unrestricted) Proof of Entitlement which authorizes such use of IBM WebSphere MQ V7.0.1.

IBM WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition

WebSphere Message Broker V8.0 includes FTEInput and FTEOutput nodes. These provide the ability to send files as messages over WebSphere MQ to a WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition endpoint, with Broker acting as an "FTE Client".

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition can be licensed for use as a "FTE Server" or "FTE Client". The WebSphere Message Broker license provides entitlement such that a separate "FTE Client" license is not required in order to use the FTEInput and FTEOutput nodes.

Other uses of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition will require separate license entitlement.

Development usage

The program license provides entitlement for licensees to make use of the WebSphere Message Broker runtime, WebSphere Message Broker toolkit, and WebSphere MQ for development and functional test uses, deployed as part of the licensee's internal development, unit, and functional testing environments. See the product license for further details and usage definitions.

Software Subscription and Support applies

Yes. Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Handbook at

http://www.ibm.com/support/handbook

Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.
