Extensible mechanism for Application Plug-ins
New popular applications come up every day. With the Application Plug-ins, IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 can drive a variety of applications with programmatic APIs. In addition, the Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console helps Application Developers use specialized panels that outline the fields specific to that application, and perform routine validation tasks to avoid most common errors. Note that the Job Scheduling Console user interface component, previously shipped with Tivoli Workload Scheduler, is no longer available in V8.6 and has been replaced with the Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console component.
Tivoli Workload Scheduler also provides auditing of previous model definitions of a workload. You can now report on the history of any single definition and easily bring the definition back to a previous version. The definitions are saved in sequence in a table for later query, making it easy to retrieve past definitions or to put additional mechanisms in place for object promotion. A base report outlining the sequence of changes for a particular object is also available.
Streamlines dynamic automation of end-to-end workloads
The spectrum of available end-to-end solutions is enriched with a new "distributed-driven" end-to-end, which extends the reach of Tivoli Workload Scheduler (for distributed systems) to mainframe jobs, allowing you to manage your mixed workloads from a distributed-oriented concept. The z-centric end-to-end provides new dynamic workload automation capabilities, with automatic distribution of workloads to static or dynamic pools of server machines, according to workload requirements and user policies. The synchronization among any combination of z/OS® and distributed engines is now straightforward, through immediate use cross dependencies between jobs belonging to different scheduling environments. These new cross dependencies allow building consolidated processes across remote environments.
Dynamic Workload Automation
Agents installed with a correct reference to their Master server appear directly on the server and are ready to receive workload in a dynamic way. The creation of server pools for availability or optimization has been simplified, and is done right from the Tivoli Workload Automation interface.

IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 provides an important step in the consolidation of various product roles as the backbone for enterprise scheduling.
Tivoli Workload Scheduler Agent, with dynamic scheduling capabilities, is designed to help bring both resiliency and optimization to the execution of workloads. By implementing resource-based scheduling, the Dynamic Scheduling Agent provides a simple software high-availability mechanism that can virtually seamlessly integrate into a larger high-availability infrastructure. It also provides an automatic optimization mechanism to help raise the server utilization rate, extending the simple requirement of average server utilization rate into more advanced workload automation fields such as priority pool, automatic provisioning request, and energy consumption optimization.
Tivoli Workload Scheduler Agent with dynamic scheduling capability offers a full function executor with the possibility to do variable substitution in the environment variables. Dynamic scheduling infrastructure has the possibility to keep the script centrally instead of expecting them to be present on the final server machine.
Tivoli Workload Scheduler provides a robust graphical web-based graphical user interface (GUI), with a graphical layout view for jobstream and job elements, both on the model and on the plan.
In the model, the graphical panel is tightly integrated into the Workload Editor and allows quick switching between graphical and non-graphical views. An additional impact view spanning multiple jobstreams and a jobstream-based graphical view over large portions of the whole plan provide possibilities that were never reached before.
Tivoli Workload Scheduler's graphical views enable development and operational teams to work in an integrated way and to grasp a complex situation in a very short time. These teams have at hand a comprehensive tool that covers virtually all the common usage scenario of overview, drill for explanation, and rapid situation correction.
Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console includes numerous customization points where solutions can be built to help satisfy the most demanding needs.
Tivoli Workload Scheduler provides product compliance with the FIPS 140-2 standard for US security requirements on cryptographic modules. Compliance with FIPS 140-2 is not mandatory but can be reached through feature activation.

Extensible mechanism for Application Plug-ins
In order to drive workloads of new applications that require a specific integration, the concept of job type has been enlarged with the concept of plug-in. The plug-in is a new feature at the execution level to hold the contact with the new application, and the plug-in also appears at the UI level to present to the user a specialized view of the workload. Tivoli Workload Scheduler opens a channel between the UI and the execution level to be able to query the remote application for a list of field values or validation checks.
If you want to give a special treatment to specific jobs, you can create a new dedicated job type with the Tivoli Workload Scheduler Developer's Guide, and the associated software developer's kit. In particular, supporting complex Web Services calls executed as jobs becomes a simple matter with the standard plug-in creation.
Auditing of previous model definitions of workload
The definitions of workload are saved in sequence in a table for later query, making it easy to retrieve past definitions or to put additional mechanisms in place for object promotion. A base report outlining the sequence of changes for a particular object is also available.
Report creation on workloads in batch mode
Reports produced regularly need to be triggered in batch mode. With the unattended report production, the output of Tivoli Workload Automation can be analyzed and reports can be published completely automatic. The report creation has the same capability as the one available on the web, plus you get the capability to insert personal report formats.
Workload Simulation and average timing
The forecast planning feature of Tivoli Workload Scheduler is a powerful way to understand flows and potential bottlenecks in advance. With V8.6, the forecast plans have a more precise timing, calculated according to the average job durations collected automatically and already used in the Workload Service Assurance feature. The timed forecast planning feature provides a method to understand the consequences of changes to flows and dependencies without executing them, like doing "what ifs'" for future planning.
Streamline dynamic automation of end-to-end workloads

Workload Console Scalable installation
The web interface, provided by Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console, now includes the adoption of TIP technology. This technology is based on a user-side application on IBM Websphere V7.0 technology instead of the administration-side technology in the previous releases. One important benefit of this change is the ability to install the Dynamic Workload Console on several machines and have them share common settings for all users. This solution can be coupled with a web load balancer to provide excellent scalability. Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 also exports all user preferences and definitions in XML format for backup and transmission.
Workload Console common views
The Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console has added the ability to monitor several different Tivoli Workload Scheduler networks, both on the distributed and on the z/OS side. Jobs coming from different networks are consolidated into a unique list and operators can monitor enterprise-wide lists of jobs from a single screen.
Workload Console on iPhone and mobile devices
Besides the full-function web interface accessible from mainstream browsers, Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 provides a streamlined interface for mobile devices that lets you have a glance at the workload and drill-down capabilities accessible from anywhere.
XA Workstation hosted by manager
Tivoli Workload Scheduler's feature supporting the hosting of an extended agent by its domain manager, whomever that is, allows you to build a simple and resilient infrastructure with no single point of failure. As a user of IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications or any other extended agent, where high availability in a domain infrastructure represented a challenge due to the fixed association between an extended agent and its host, you benefit from this update.
IBM System i® dynamic agent
Tivoli Workload Scheduler lets you route jobs dynamically to System i machines with the new agent available in V8.6. The agent keeps all the capabilities of the traditional Limited Fault Tolerant Agent, but adds the ability to prepare the jobs on the graphical interface with a dedicated System i panel, In addition, the System i dynamic agent of Tivoli Workload Scheduler is able to control a tree of System i processes which spawn other processes, so that the job terminates only when the whole tree has finished executing.

Licensing metric definitions
Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at
and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.
Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the webpage below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at
* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.
Client Device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Client Device is a single user computing device or special purpose sensor or telemetry device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from or provides data to another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. Multiple Client Devices may share access to a common server. A Client Device may have some processing capability or be programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to actuators, appliances, automated teller machines, automatic meter readers, cash registers, disk drives, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistant, point-of-sale terminals, sensors, smart meters, tape drives, and technical workstations. Licensee must obtain entitlements for every Client Device which runs, provides data to, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the program and for every other computer or server on which the Program is installed.
Standby or backup systems
For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations: cold, warm and hot. In cold and warm situations, a separate entitlement for the copy on the backup machine is normally not required and typically no additional charge applies. In a hot backup situation, the customer needs to acquire other licenses or entitlements sufficient for that server. All programs running in backup mode must be solely under the customer's control, even if running at another enterprise's location.
As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the program used for backup purposes.
Cold: A copy of the program may reside, for backup purposes, on a machine as long as the program is not started. There is no additional charge for this copy.
Warm: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is idling, and is not doing any work of any kind. There is no additional charge for this copy.
Hot: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine, is started, and is doing work. The customer must acquire a license or entitlement(s) for this copy and there will generally be an additional charge.
Doing work includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files, synchronization of programs, data, or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database or other resource, and so on), or any activity or configurations that would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch-over between programs, databases, or other resources to occur.
In the case of a program or system configuration that is designed to support a high availability environment by using various techniques (for example, duplexing, mirroring of files, or transactions, maintaining a heartbeat, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource), the program is considered to be doing work in the hot situation and a license or entitlement must be purchased.
The following examples are provided to illustrate the customer's licensing requirements.
The following customer network (referred to as the core environment) applies to all of the examples to enable the reader to see where products tend to manage something less than the entire environment. The customer's overall core environment includes:
- 20 uniprocessor cores
- 65 2-way servers
- 12 4-way servers
- One 8-way server
- One 12-way server with two virtual or logical partitions
- One 14-way server
- One 16-way Sun Ultra server with two 8-way physical partitions (only one of which is managed by IBM Tivoli applications)
- One 24-way server
- One z800 server with two uniprocessor IFLs running Linux (also known
as "Linux on System
Note: Linux on System z offerings may not be available for all Tivoli products. This licensing example assumes such availability. Linux on System z offerings have distinctly orderable part numbers in Passport Advantage, which should be used when ordering entitlements for IFLs running Linux.
If pricing products without a Linux on System z offering, you should exclude the z800 server entitlement requirement indicated below.

Ordering information for Passport Advantage
Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Maintenance renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. New software purchases will initially include twelve full months of Software Maintenance. Software Maintenance in the second year (the first year of renewal) can be prorated to be coterminous with your common anniversary date. Thereafter, all Software Maintenance will renew at the common anniversary date for twelve full months of maintenance.

Tivoli Workload Scheduler provides two sets of separately orderable and licensed capabilities, one for the full flexibility and power, termed "Tivoli Workload Scheduler", and one for a reduced set of functions, driven exclusively and directly from Tivoli Workload Scheduler on z/OS. This capability is termed "Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS Agent".
The two capabilities can coexist in a single environment. The Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS Agent license connects to Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS via a protocol that activates a reduced set of functions. Tivoli Workload Scheduler offers the full set of functions of the distributed network product either under a distributed network head or in a plan-based end-to-end architecture.
The Tivoli Workload Scheduler license entitles you to use both capabilities of end-to-end, plan-based end-to-end, and simplified end-to-end on an agent. A Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS Agent license entitles you to use only the limited end-to-end capability of an agent.

Subscription and Support
Subscription and Support must be ordered to receive voice technical support via telephone during normal business hours, and future releases and versions, at no additional charge. The capacity of Subscription and Support (for example, Value Units or number of processors) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.
To order, specify the Subscription and Support program product number and the appropriate license or charge option.
IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products, via a separately purchased offering, under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Support Maintenance (IAASM). This offering:
- Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone during normal business hours.
- Entitles customers to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that the customer is not entitled to new products.
When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless cancelled by the customer.

The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.
This product is only available via Passport Advantage. It is not available as shrinkwrap.
IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.
This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).
These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty applies
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at
IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
Program technical support
Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.
If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.
For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring.
