Notes:

  • If you are installing the Services and Engine tiers on separate machines, each machine must have the same operating system.
  • InfoSphere Metadata Server consists of the Repository tier and Services tier.

Recommended hardware:

  • Processor: 2.5 GHz (minimum required); faster processors are recommended.
  • Memory: 6 GB of RAM (minimum required); 8+ GB of RAM recommended.
  • When you install IBM InfoSphere Information Server, 50 MB of temporary files are added and removed after the installation process is complete.

The IBM InfoSphere Information Server architecture consists of multiple tiers. Depending on the product required by the user, different tiers will be installed. These tiers include:

  • Repository tier: The Repository tier is a relational database that stores the metadata for IBM InfoSphere Information Server.
  • Services tier: The Services tier is hosted by InfoSphere Application Server and includes services that are shared across multiple Information Server components.
  • Engine tier: The Engine tier consists of the core components of the Information Server that do specific types of work.
  • Client tier: The Client tier enables users to interact with the Information Server.

Repository tier

  • Oracle 10gR2 (data direct JDBC drivers 3.6)
  • SQL Server 2005 (Windows only; data direct JDBC drivers 3.6)

Notes:

  • DB2 Restricted Enterprise Edition 9 is included with IBM InfoSphere Information Server and is an optional part of the installation that requires an additional 390 MB of disk space. If DB2 Restricted Enterprise Edition 9 is optionally installed, it is only licensed for use with IBM InfoSphere Information Server.
  • IBM InfoSphere Information Server does not support the Database Partitioning Feature of IBM DB2 ESE 9 for use in the Repository tier.
  • The database needs to have 700 MB of initial free space. With added projects and continued usage, additional disk space will be required.

Services tier

IBM InfoSphere Information Server requires WebSphere® Application Server 6.0.2.27. WebSphere Application Server is included as a part of IBM InfoSphere Information Server and is an optional part of the installation that requires an additional 1 GB of disk space. If WebSphere Application Server is optionally installed, it is only licensed for use with IBM InfoSphere Information Server.

Disk space required: 4 GB

Engine tier:

InfoSphere DataStage® and InfoSphere QualityStage requirements
Disk space required: 600 MB

Compiler:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5: gcc 4.1.2
  • Windows: Microsoft™ Visual Studio .NET 2005/2008 C++ or Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2005/2008 Express® Edition C++
  • SUSE Linux: gcc 4.1.2

Requirements:

  • 750 MB in the InfoSphere DataStage installation directory
  • Sufficient disk space for temporary data storage while an InfoSphere DataStage or InfoSphere QualityStage job is running
