Overview
Bottom rule

IBM DB2 Workgroup Server Edition for High Performance Computing (HPC) V1.1 is a scalable, full-fledged relational database designed for use in a local area network (LAN) environment and provides support for both local and remote DB2 clients. DB2 Workgroup Server Edition is a multi-user version of DB2.

In addition to having the power and reliability to handle workloads with ease, DB2 Workgroup Server Edition is packed with features that are designed to reduce the overall costs of owning a database and includes data warehouse capabilities, high availability function, and can be administered remotely from a satellite control database.

The IBM Power 755 Supercomputer cluster solution requires a database to store all configuration and monitoring data. DB2 Workgroup Server Edition 9.7 for HPC V1.1 is licensed for use solely on the executive management server (EMS) of the Power 775 high performance computing cluster.

The EMS serves as a single point of control for cluster management of the Power 775 cluster. The Power 775 cluster also contains a backup EMS, service nodes, compute nodes, I/O nodes, and login nodes.

DB2 Workgroup Server Edition 9.7 for HPC V1.1 should be installed on the EMS and backup EMS.

Electronic Software Update (ESU) orders
Bottom rule

ESU is a way for you to self order your Power software release upgrades via the ESS website without the need to go to the seller to place the upgrade order. ESU orders for ESD is now available in all countries.

ESU orders for software are placed on the ESS website

http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/ess

You should generally select electronic delivery when ordering via ESU, but do have the ability to select physical delivery. Programs ordered for ESD will have the same download images provided as on the CD media shipped for physical orders. Countries requiring physical delivery of License Information documentation will have these documents shipped separately. This physical shipment will not delay the immediate availability of the ESD images for download.

After placing ESD software orders, you will receive an email with the software order information. You will be able to immediately proceed to the downloads website for program access, instead of waiting for delivery of a physical package shipped from IBM.

If you choose physical delivery, you will also have the electronic images available for ESD download.

Server

Server is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A server is a physical computer that is comprised of processing units, memory, and input/output capabilities and that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications for one or more users or Client Devices. Where racks, blade enclosures, or other similar equipment is being employed, each separable physical device (for example, a blade or a rack-mounted device) that has the required components is considered itself a separate server. For the purpose of server-based licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements for each server that is made available to the program, regardless of the number of processor cores and partitions in the server or the number of copies of the program on the server.

Notes:

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the servers managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the servers managed by program.

Terms and conditions
Bottom rule

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage® Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) agreement applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at

http://www.ibm.com/support/handbook

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
