Overview
Bottom rule

IBM Web Experience Factory 7.0.1 enables the creation of custom portlets, widgets, and applications that run in IBM Portal, IBM Mashup Center, and IBM WebSphere Application Server, from a single code base and are accessible on a range of devices including desktop browsers, mobile phones, smartphones, and tablets. Native integration with WebSphere Portal accelerates portal deployment and provides support for key APIs such as request, response, and session in addition to:

  • Templates: Enable users to create and reuse composite applications by arranging portlets into templates that can be deployed to different communities (for example, departments, teams, and other groups of users).
  • Cooperative portlets: Easily incorporate inter-portlet communication techniques such as click to action and portlet wiring.
  • People awareness: Seamlessly integrate collaboration into your portal, enabling users to send instant messages and emails simply by clicking on a person's name.
  • Credential vault: Easily leverage the WebSphere Portal Credential Vault or Lightweight Third-Party Authentication (LTPA) tokens to provide single sign-on capabilities.
  • Automated deployments: Automatically deploy and redeploy portlet war files to WebSphere Portal - without having to generate any scripts or XML deployment descriptors.
  • WebSphere Portal groups, user attributes, and personalization rules: Easily deploy portlets that can automatically adapt depending on the user.
  • WebSphere Portal modes: Automatically generate fully functioning user interfaces for each of the portlet modes, including view, edit, and configure.

IBM Web Experience Factory V7.0.1 provides the following benefits:

  • Accelerates portal and application deployments, including ability to author a single portlet that is accessible on multiple channels including desktop browsers, mobile phones and smartphones, and tablets.
  • Increases developer productivity and reduces development costs.
  • Extends portlet, widget, and application creation to a broader development community enabling developers of all skill sets to build multipage, complex portlets and applications without coding.
  • Leverages existing enterprise applications and IT assets to quickly create composite, high-value portlets and applications that leverage existing investment in current applications (SAP, PeopleSoft, Siebel, Lotus® Domino®), service-oriented architecture (SOA) systems and databases.
  • Creates new portlets and applications on demand to generate multiple customized portlets and applications for various users or application contexts without changing underlying code.
  • Empowers business users to create, customize, and manage portlets to help remove IT bottlenecks and reduce time to market by empowering business user configuration.
  • Automates frequently occurring development tasks that capture commonly used design patterns and company-specific business processes as reusable components for all developers, enforcing application architecture and development best practices.
  • Easily complies to open standards to quickly build portlets and applications without needing to know the specifics of the underlying standards such as JSR-168, JSR-286, and technologies such as Ajax and Dojo.

Description
Bottom rule

IBM Web Experience Factory 7.0.1 is a model-based development tool that allows developers to quickly create applications that are part of an exceptional web experience.

Being model based allows users to quickly create and modify applications without needing to understand or be knowledgeable in the underlying technologies such as Java™, Dojo, or proprietary back-end technology. Developers learn to use the tool and the items that are ready for immediate use.

Unlike a purely wizard-based system, model-based development allows developers to go back and easily change configuration settings without having to regenerate the entire application form scratch.

IBM Web Experience Factory provides more than 160 builders that are ready for immediate use that both speed up development time and allow developers to leverage technology where they do not have skills. For example, a Web Experience Factory developer can easily develop a Dojo application, maximizing easy-to-use Web 2.0 capabilities without being proficient in the specifics of the Dojo toolkit itself.

In summary, by adopting IBM Web Experience Factory V7.0.1, organizations can dramatically improve their time to market and competitiveness by delivering better solutions faster as part of their exceptional web experiences.

IBM Web Experience Factory extends portal and web application development to a broader audience of developers, covering a larger range of technologies and, ultimately, reducing the load on developers, allowing business owners to respond faster to market demand.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

IBM Web Experience Factory is capable as of July 14, 2011, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT), containing details on the products accessibility compliance, can be requested on the following Web site

Charge metrics definitions

Authorized User

Authorized User is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. An Authorized User is an individual (named or unnamed) within or outside of your enterprise. The program may be installed on one or more computers or servers and accessed by the number of users authorized by the Proof of Entitlement (PoE). You must have an entitlement for each Authorized User accessing the program or any program component in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the webpage below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_specific_virtualization_technologies.html

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes:

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies: Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies. Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.
  • Express and workgroup programs may be licensed with maximum use terms. In that case, the following applies. The maximum authorized use terms and conditions for PVU licensed IBM express and middleware programs can be found in the IBM Express and Middleware Licensing Guide.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
