Description
Bottom rule

Enterprises face increased pressure to reduce energy costs due to budget constraints, regulatory mandates on carbon reduction compliance, corporate citizenship, and "green" perception requirements. As buildings, facilities, and campuses become increasingly interconnected, instrumented, and intelligent, there are new tools to address these issues.

IBM Intelligent Building Management V1.1:

  • Increases building management effectiveness and productivity, improves energy efficiency, and increases occupant satisfaction. It achieves this through centralized facility and asset management, real-time monitoring, and energy analytics, and control mechanisms.
  • Helps businesses monitor key building energy metrics, provides alerts when anomalies are detected, and initiates work orders for corrective action. It enables facilities operations managers to move from scheduled maintenance of critical building equipment to condition-based maintenance leading to reduced facilities operations costs and improved building equipment performance.
  • Integrates with existing building management systems to gather and warehouse sensor data feeding key dashboards, reports, energy analytics, and event management tools.
  • Utilizes industry-leading analytics, powered by business rules technology from WebSphere ILOG JRules, which has proven 5 percent annual energy savings and 8 percent annual facilities operations savings at a mature IBM facility.

Licensing metric definitions and pricing examples
Bottom rule

Licensing metric definitions

General charge terms

Hundred thousand square meters

Hundred thousand square meters is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. Gross square area is the sum of all areas on all floors of a building within the outside faces of its exterior walls, including all vertical penetrations and technical infrastructure rooms. Licensee must obtain hundred thousand square meters entitlements sufficient to cover the total gross square area managed by the program.

Million square feet

Million square feet is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. Gross square area is the sum of all areas on all floors of a building within the outside faces of its exterior walls, including all vertical penetrations and technical infrastructure rooms. Licensee must obtain million square feet entitlements sufficient to cover the total gross square area managed by the program.

Pricing examples

IBM Intelligent Building Management is licensed as a single part number based on the square footage or square meters of the buildings which are being managed by the solution. It is licensed in either 1 million square feet or 100,000 square meter increments. Customers may choose either 1 million square feet or 100,000 square meter metrics in order to license the solution. For example, a customer using the IBM Intelligent Building Management software to manage 10 buildings, each measured at 250,000 square feet, would purchase a quantity of three 1 million square feet entitlements of IBM Intelligent Building Management.

IBM Intelligent Building Management usage is restricted to managing building infrastructure and equipment, and equipment to support building operation (such as heating, cooling, and ventilation).

IBM Intelligent Building Management will be able to manage the total energy usage of a building including non-IT equipment in a data center such as power distribution units (PDU), computer room air conditioning (CRAC), and chillers.

IBM Intelligent Building Management may be used to manage the energy usage of IT assets within a datacenter (such as servers, storage devices, personal computers, switches, and routers) however, additional licenses for appropriate products to support the management of those assets.

A data center is a dedicated area used to house Information Technology (IT) equipment.

In order to manage the power and thermal characteristics of the IT equipment in the data center, such as servers, storage devices, and telecommunications equipment as well as access data center specific reports, separate licenses for IBM Tivoli Monitoring Energy Management will be required.

Pricing example 1

A university wants to manage the energy and facilities operations cost of 5 of their buildings on campus which measure a total of 2.5 million square feet. This customer would like to use IBM Intelligent Building Management in order to reduce its facility operations cost and optimize its energy costs. Therefore, the following licensing scheme applies:

                                  Quantity License
                                  in customer entitlements
Pricing metric environment required

Pricing example 2

A bank wants to managed the energy and facilities operations cost of 10 buildings which measure a total of 9.2 million square feet. This customer would like to use IBM Intelligent Building Management in order to reduce its facility operations cost and optimize its energy costs. Additionally, the customer would like to manage the power and thermal characteristics of its IT equipment in the data center, which requires the purchase of IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management. The data center has the following components: 250 servers (device tier) and 1,000 servers using IBM Systems Director (IT tier). Therefore, the following license scheme applies:

                                   Quantity License
                                   in customer entitlements

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
