Description
Bottom rule

IBM DB2 Recovery Expert for Linux, UNIX and Windows V3.1 provides a simple, self-managing recovery solution that enables database recovery operations with minimal disruption. DB2 Recovery Expert enables intelligent analysis of altered, incorrect, or missing database assets, including table spaces, tables, indexes, and data. It automates the process of rebuilding these assets to a specified point in time, often without taking the database or the business operations offline.

DB2 Recovery Expert promotes high availability solutions that companies require for 24 x 7 operations and integrating with storage systems. It performs system-level backups instantaneously and without affecting running applications.

Log Analysis is a powerful component that is part of the tool used to support efforts to maintain high availability and complete control over data integrity. It allows you to monitor data changes by automatically building reports of changes that are made to database tables.

DB2 Database Server

The DB2 Recovery Expert for Linux, UNIX and Windows V3.1 may require considerable working storage on the DB2 database server for the datastore databases and associated temporary files. The size cannot be accurately predicted, but is on the order of size of the databases and associated log files that the product works with. Additional storage is needed for storing results sets for Log Analysis, which can be quite large. The datastore database is created on the default database path for the specified DB2 instance. Temporary files are written to a data directory path on the /var filesystem unless overridden by a configuration setting. A minimum of 10 GB is recommended for this data. If working with large databases, reserve at least twice the size of the largest database.

The program's specifications and specified operating environment information may be found in documentation accompanying the program, if available, such as a readme file, or other information published by IBM, such as an announcement letter. Documentation and other program content may be supplied only in the English language.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the webpage below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_specific_virtualization_technologies.html

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes:

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies: Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies. Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.
  • Express® and workgroup programs may be licensed with maximum use terms. In that case, the following applies. The maximum authorized use terms and conditions for PVU licensed IBM express and middleware programs can be found in the IBM Express and Middleware Licensing Guide.

Charges for this program are based on the total number of processors from which the data being processed by the program originates, including any processors available to the database servers on which the data originally resides, and the processors available to the database servers to which the program is licensed. The total number of processors within database servers on which the data being processed by the program resides and which are attached or available to the program may not exceed the number authorized by the applicable PoE or authorized by each product authorization acquired under Passport Advantage. If the total number exceeds the quantity in your PoE or exceeds your product authorizations acquired under Passport Advantage, you must notify IBM or its reseller as stated in the IPLA.

  • High availability and failover licensing
    • After the server is fully licensed, it can be used to service user workload. In high availability configurations, this server is called a Primary server; additional servers acting as backups are called Standby servers that may be deployed in Active or Idle configurations.
    • In Active Standby or Idle Standby, you must acquire a correct number of processor PoEs in addition to the processor PoEs you obtained for the Primary server.
    • Active Standby
      • In an Active Standby configuration, the program is operational on all servers to service user transactions or queries. Because each of the Active Standby servers is used to operate the program for user transactions or queries before and after a failure, the program must be fully licensed on all Active Servers.
      • In Active Standby, you must license the program for the number of processors attached or available to the Active Standby servers. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one Primary server with four processors and one Active Standby server with two processors. This environment must be licensed for six processors (four for the Primary server and two for the Active Standby server).
    • Idle Standby
      • In Idle Standby configuration, Idle Standby servers have the program installed, however, they do not have the program operational to service user transactions or query workloads. A server is considered "idle" if it is used exclusively for administrative actions that assist in failover scenarios such as having a database in rollforward pending state to support log shipping, or in making a flash copy of a DB2 database and then performing a database backup of this copy on another server, or in keeping a standby database synchronized using the High Availability Disaster Recovery ("HADR") component.
      • In Idle Standby, you must license the program for one processor per Idle Standby server only, regardless of the number of processors attached or available to the server. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one Primary server with four processors and one Idle Standby server with two processors. This environment must be licensed for five processors (four for the Primary server and one for the Idle Standby server).
