Description
Bottom rule

IBM Content Integrator introduced basic service-oriented architecture (SOA) capabilities in V8.5, which were extended in V8.5.1 to include support for Create, Update, and Delete functions. IBM Content Integrator V8.6 introduces new capabilities for SOA security, chargeback, and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). This further extends SOA functions, such as availability of high level services, as well as enhanced SOA security and the ability to offer chargeback for use of services. These enhancements provide you with more options for how you use IBM Content Integrator to take advantage of the benefits of SOA, including easier access to content, advanced security management, and the ability, via chargeback, to offer content access as a for profit service.

Repository integration enhancements include event integration, which provides the ability to trigger IBM Content Integrator actions and processes from changes in repository content states. This capability provides tight integration of content and federation processes across disparate content sources.

IBM Content Integrator V8.6 offers a number of consumability enhancements, including upgrade of installer technology, logging, simplification of administration and connector configuration, as well as currency with the latest IBM ECM repository and Content Federation Services (CFS) releases. These also include updates to the IBM FileNet Content Manager connector API, CFS connector, and Microsoft NTFS connector.

Bottom rule

IBM Content Integrator V8.6 provides a number of enhancements to the offering's existing capabilities to help you gain access to trusted content in disparate repositories for better, faster decisions whether for faster customer service, information lifecycle governance, advanced case management, and other solutions that require federated access to such content. If you are faced with content silos in multiple repositories, you can take any or all of three approaches:

  • Use IBM Content Integrator (to provide what may be called a "content integration" solution), where all repositories can be accessed, resulting in bidirectional, real-time access to the content in each repository.
  • Use IBM Content Integrator with content federation services in IBM FileNet Content Manager to create a master catalog in P8, so that P8 applications, such as records management and business process management, can access the metadata from third-party repositories from within P8 as if it were native P8 content.
  • Choose an information access strategy driven by your unique requirements. Take advantage of having the option to use a content integration or a content federation strategy as a temporary or permanent option you can control if and when you will expose yourselves to the risks and expenses associated with content migrations.

Specified operating environment

Hardware requirements

The exact hardware configuration to support a specific environment with satisfactory performance varies, depending on the distribution of the software components, the number of documents to be accessed, the types of systems being accessed, the application requirements, server workload, the number of users, and other factors.

The minimum hardware requirements for IBM Content Integrator are defined by the supported operating system. Refer to the Software requirements section for supported operating systems, with additional minimum hardware requirements noted below:

  • When running on Windows® or Linux® in a 32-bit Intel® environment, an Intel Pentium® or AMD Athlon CPU is required.
  • When running in a Solaris environment, an UltraSparc CPU is required.

Memory requirement

The following table shows the minimum recommended memory for installation in megabytes (MB). The actual requirement depends on the applications you intend to run. Additional memory may be required to handle heavy workloads and large numbers of users. The numbers below are for reference only.

IBM Content Integrator

Operating Sun Solaris AIX® Windows Linux
 environment
Memory 512 MB 512 MB 512 MB 512 MB

IBM Content Integrator client

The amount of memory required for the IBM Content Integrator API depends on the operating system, the J2EE application server's client run time, and the applications that are running. In most cases, it should be sufficient to use the minimum memory requirements of the operating system as the minimum requirement for running the IBM Content Integrator API clients. Graphical tools that are part of the administration tool will require an additional 128 MB.

Disk space requirement

The following table shows the minimum recommended disk space for installation in megabytes (MB). The actual requirement depends on the applications you intend to run. Additional disk space may be required to handle heavy workloads and large numbers of users. The numbers below are for reference only.

IBM Content Integrator

Operating Sun Solaris AIX Windows Linux
 environment

Disk space 500 MB 500 MB 500 MB 500 MB

Notes:

  1. The memory requirements given for IBM Content Integrator include the memory that is typically required for a hosting J2EE application server. Refer to the documentation of the J2EE application server for detailed memory requirements. In addition, the installation process for IBM Content Integrator requires 128 MB of memory.
  2. The disk space required for IBM Content Integrator depends on the components selected. The disk space requirements given for IBM Content Integrator do not include the disk space that is required for a hosting J2EE application server. Refer to the documentation of the J2EE application server for detailed disk space requirements. The API and administrative tools for IBM Content Integrator cannot be installed separately. Therefore, they require the same disk space as IBM Content Integrator.

Charge metrics definitions

User Value Unit (UVU)

UVU is the metric by which this program is licensed. UVU entitlements are based on the number of users for the given program. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of UVUs required for your environment as defined by the specific program terms. The UVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with UVU entitlements of another software program. UVU licensing offers you price benefits for customers by enabling a lower cost of incremental growth of resources. To understand these benefits of UVU licensing, and to determine how many UVUs to obtain for the program, contact your IBM representative.

Install

Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each install of the program.
