Description
Bottom rule

IBM InfoSphere Replication Server for z/OS, V10.1 enhances Q Replication and SQL Replication by adding new features to Replication Server for z/OS and incorporating enhancements delivered in PTFs for the prior version of the product.

Selected features that deliver benefits to your business:

  • Support of new function in DB2 for z/OS, V10
    • Temporal tables
    • Timestamp with time zone
    • Leveraging inline Large Objects for improved replication performance
  • Improved support of continuous availability and active-active solutions
    • Automatically replicate Alter Column data type actions.
    • Have Q Capture read to the end of the database log before shutdown to ensure data is captured for replication to secondary systems.
    • Control Q Capture restart at the queue level.
    • Use new spill-resume conflict and error actions in Q Apply to automatically spill changed data to queues during target table maintenance and other activities.
    • Have Q Apply ignore a range of transactions queued, but no longer needed, after the start up of a failed site in disaster recovery.
  • A Performance Advisor for Q Replication
    • Built into Replication Server's Q Replication Dashboard, the Performance Advisor helps you tune your Q Replication configuration.
  • Performance enhancements for Q Replication
    • Have Q Capture group DB2 transactions by a number you choose for more efficient transport across the network.
    • Keep application workloads active when adding new tables to bidirectional and peer-to-peer subscriptions. The initialization protocol for new tables now allows application activity on replicated tables during the initialization of related Q subscriptions.
    • Use nonpersistent WebSphere MQ messages to reduce latency and overhead.
  • Enhanced features of SQL Replication
    • Support of DB2 for z/OS not-logged table spaces for SQL Replication CD tables. This can significantly reduce the log overhead traditionally associated with staged data.
    • Export SQL Replication information in an InfoSphere DataStage (dsx) format for easy integration of changed data into DataStage jobs.
    • More SQL Apply statistical data for health and performance monitoring.
  • More options for loading target tables.
    • Control the maximum number of parallel loads that can be done by Q Apply.
    • Optionally, replicate source table load operations to target tables.
    • Have Q Apply load a single target table from multiple source tables.
    • Allow Q Apply parallel load with non-DB2 target tables.
    • Have Q Apply support SQL*Loader for Oracle tables.
  • Enhanced features of the Q Replication Dashboard
    • Deploy to an existing WebSphere Application Server.
    • Use the new Recovery Advisor to assist in failover, switchback, and unexpected outages.
    • Email health and performance reports.
    • View the contents of source and target tables in a single dialog.
    • Take advantage of recent customization options.

InfoSphere Data Event Publisher for z/OS, V10.1 is a subset of Q Replication that allows you to link DB2 changed-data events with business processes and drive change-only updating of data warehouses, datamarts, and operational data stores. The data change is published to WebSphere MQ queues for general use.

InfoSphere Data Event Publisher enables database events to initiate business processes. For example, a change in an inventory value could be used to drive a product restocking workflow, or the addition of a customer record could initiate a new customer process that includes a welcome email, credit verification, and accounting update. This creates an application-independent, loosely coupled integration that is more adaptable to changing application environments.

While multiple applications may impact the value of the inventory level, a single point of integration -- the data -- is driving the work flow. Changes to the applications that impact the inventory level can be made with virtually no impact on the data event-driven integration. Businesses can realize faster time to market because integration captures the event in a single location, is more stable, and is easier to maintain.

Additionally, InfoSphere Data Event Publisher solutions can deliver changes to extract, transform, and load tools like InfoSphere DataStage, or custom-built processes for updating operational data stores and data warehouses, minimizing bandwidth requirements and keeping target databases updated in near real time. Businesses can utilize information that is much more current for tactical and operational decision making.

Selected features that deliver benefits to your business:

  • Support of new function in DB2 for z/OS, V10
    • Temporal tables
    • Timestamp with timezone
    • Leverage in-line LOBs for improved replication performance
  • Performance enhancements
    • Allow use of nonpersistent WebSphere MQ messages to reduce latency and overhead.
  • Enhanced features of the Q Replication Dashboard
    • Deploy to an existing WebSphere Application Server.
    • Email health and performance reports.
    • Take advantage of recent customization options.

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected System z IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Translation from MSUs to Value Units

          MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00

Total 1,500 343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. The required license capacity is based on:

  • The System z IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the System z IPLA program selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only via CBPDO, ServerPac, and SystemPac®.

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery in countries where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery reduces software delivery time and allows you to install software without the need to handle tapes. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

http://www.software.ibm.com/ShopzSeries

You choose the delivery method when you order the software. IBM recommends Internet delivery. In addition to Internet and DVD, the supported tape delivery options for CBPDO, ServerPac, and SystemPac, include:

  • 3590
  • 3592

Most products can be ordered in ServerPac and SystemPac the month following their availability on CBPDO. z/OS can be ordered via all three offerings at general availability. Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after general availability
  • SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after general availability due to additional customization, and data input verification.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
