Overview
Bottom rule

SPSS Decision Management brings the benefit of predictive analytics to real business problems, with custom applications tailored to your customers or industry. While each application can be configured to solve very specific problems, all are based on a common set of capabilities:

  • Automate decisions using business rules.
  • Add insight using predictive models.
  • Use prioritization or simulation to reach the best decision based on the above.

A number of packaged applications are available, tailored to solving specific business problems.

SPSS Decision Management enables a framework for creating custom decision management applications to meet your business requirements. Examples of decision management applications include:

  • An application enabling your marketing department to build, optimize, and run event-driven campaigns based on a combination of advanced predictive analytics and business logic.
  • An application allowing marketers to develop and deploy customer interactions in real time.

Each interaction defines a potential offer or message to a customer who contacts you through one or more channels such as email, phone, website, and so on.

You can define objectives such as preventing churn or cross-selling, and determine on-the-fly which response is most appropriate for a given contact.

  • An application allowing businesses such as insurance companies to effectively detect and handle fraud cases.

Such an application could integrate with claim-handling interfaces to rules that detect fraud to incoming claims. You can improve the claim handling and risk detection process through modeling, integrate with multiple data sources as needed, and configure fraud risk levels and actions.

Description
Bottom rule

SPSS Decision Management software gives business users a simple way to inject predictive analytics into the business process to ensure optimal outcomes. It offers a simple "three-click" automated modeling and scoring web interface. SPSS Decision Management can be configured to meet virtually any organization's business requirements.

Currently, three out-of-the-box applications are available:

SPSS Decision Management for Customer Interactions

This application decides which promotions to offer customers when they contact your organization, and delivers recommendations to a call center, website, or store location in real time. By combining the logic of business rules with the insight gained through predictive modeling, the application identifies the most profitable decision for each customer. In addition, it:

  • Enables front-line business managers to manipulate business rules and models to obtain the most profitable outcomes from promotional campaigns and other customer contacts
  • Empowers claims processing staff to run simulations that give them greater control when balancing efficiency gains against possible risks of fraud

Decision Management for Claims Management

Using the Claims Management application, organizations can harness the power of predictive analytics to process incoming claims in real time. For example, claims can be set on a "fast track" to be processed in the normal manner, or referred to the special investigations unit. By combining the logic of business rules with the insight gained through predictive models, the application identifies the best action for each claim according to your business goals.

Claims Management includes all aspects of automated decision design and deployment that an organization needs. It empowers organizations to:

  • Make advanced modeling techniques more broadly available in order to predict what is likely to happen based on patterns found in historical data
  • Optimize and automate high-volume decisions and improve outcomes in specific business situations
  • Monitor how recommendations based on predictive models affect customer interactions or other processes
  • Collect information about results, and use that information to refine predictive models and future recommended actions

SPSS Modeler Advantage is an easy-to-use application that puts the power of predictive modeling in the hands of business users.

  • With predictive models you can identify patterns based on what has happened in the past, and use them to predict what is likely to happen in the future.
  • For example, you can use a model to predict which customers are least likely to churn, or most likely to respond to a particular offer, based on characteristics such as income, age, and the organizations and memberships they subscribe to.
  • You can use the resulting predictions to generate lists of target customers or cases of interest, as input for strategic planning, or you can integrate them with rules in the context of a predictive application.

Rules Management includes a central tool for creating and editing shared rules that can be used throughout applications to select and process records, and to automate decisions accordingly.

While rules can also be created and saved within each application, the Rules Management application allows you to save rules as separate objects that can be referenced from multiple applications. For example, a rule to exclude customers who are below legal age could be shared across all applications to enforce a global policy, and any changes to the shared rule would be applied across all applications.

Processor Value Unit

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the Program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

Licensee can deploy the Program using either Full Capacity licensing or Virtualization Capacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (see web page below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores1 in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the Program, except for those servers from which the Program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the Program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_specific_virtualization_technologies.html

1 An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Concurrent User

Concurrent User is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. A Concurrent User is a person who is accessing the Program at any particular point in time. Regardless of whether the person is simultaneously accessing the Program multiple times, the person counts only as a single Concurrent User. The Program may be installed on any number of computers or servers, but Licensee must obtain entitlements for the maximum number of Concurrent Users simultaneously accessing the Program. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each simultaneous Concurrent User accessing the Program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case the following applies: Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the Program or that is otherwise managed by the Program is considered a separate User of the Program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the Program. The Program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the Program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User accessing the Program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.

Migration of SPSS Products

For current SPSS licensees, you will be contacted by IBM to migrate your SPSS use entitlements into the IBM systems for the same or replacement product. This contact will happen at your next support renewal cycle. The table available through the attached link shows the SPSS offering name and the replacement IBM offering name. You must be current on Subscription and Support (maintenance and support) to be eligible for migrations. If you are not current, you will have to pay the Subscription and Support reinstatement pricing in the Passport Advantage ordering system.

The migration is for the same capacity as currently licensed when converted to the metric announced for the replacement offering. Initial migration quotes will be generated using estimated calculations, though customers will be migrated to ensure that they are entitled to use the software to the same extent that they are currently licensed by adjusting the IBM quantities where required. To view the migration table, select the Transition to IBM section at

http://support.spss.com

Processor Value Unit (PVU) sub-capacity licensing

This software product is eligible for sub-capacity licensing. Customers must accept the terms of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (Attachment), and must obtain PVU Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) for the maximum processor core capacity available to an eligible sub-capacity product when deployed in an eligible virtualization environment. This is also referred to as sub-capacity or virtualization capacity licensing.

Customers must use the IBM License Metric Tool unless they meet the exceptions described in the Attachment.

For information regarding PVU sub-capacity licensing, including terms and IBM License Metric Tool ordering information, visit

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/subcaplicensing.html
