Overview
Bottom rule

Integrated Information Core is a software platform based on industry and IT standards. Integrated Information Core V1.4 is designed to help customers in the chemical and petroleum industry improve integrated operations through simpler and more timely access to information pertaining to upstream and downstream operations.

The Integrated Information Core software platform contains industry-specific content to help enable the consistent representation of chemical and petroleum enterprises and operations. It leverages a reference semantic model, based on industry standards, incorporating:

  • Process equipment and hierarchy with connectivity
  • Measurements
  • Production calculation
  • Key performance indicators
  • Model access services supporting client application access of production information via the implemented model

A reference semantic model implementation is created for each customer solution. Based on IBM service-oriented architecture (SOA) software, this framework helps enable smarter oil and gas industry solutions such as downstream integrated operations for petroleum refineries and chemical plants, and integrated asset management to assist in identifying problems before breakdowns occur. This can help improve availability and decrease costs.

The same software platform enables industry solutions to connect offshore platforms with onshore experts inside the company and with partners for real-time collaboration to help respond more quickly and accurately. This capability can help optimize human and production resources.

Oil and gas companies have extensive control systems and other production systems implemented at the facility and/or plant level, and resource planning systems at the administrative and/or enterprise level. There is a need for operations management and intelligence systems integrating and consolidating the applications in the domain between these systems. Integrated Information Core helps bridge these requirements. Existing equipment can be leveraged with incremental expansion across assets and processes as business needs change.

Description
Bottom rule

The IBM Integrated Information Core is a semantic-model-based designed to allow chemical and petroleum industry-specific integrated solutions with common processes and services to help:

  • Improve the productivity of skilled people by giving them real-time and historical production operations information visibility to measurements in the context of instrumented, interconnected equipment
  • Support decision making with enterprise-wide access to real-time and historical production operations information
  • Reduce costs with more informed decisions that leverage federated information with performance comparisons across multiple assets across the enterprise
  • Reduce planned and unplanned shutdowns, increase production, and decrease maintenance costs based on enterprise wide, event-based information

The Integrated Information Core software platform provides simplified access, via an information model based on industry standards, to integrated information about production processes and assets across multiple facilities. Integrated Information Core V1.4 consists of components dedicated to the chemical and petroleum industry, and delivers business process management (BPM) with common services.

The components of Integrated Information Core V1.4 offer build, run, and manage capabilities:

  • Build Server Edition and Build Client Edition components contain tooling and model ontology for chemical and petroleum companies to model their facilities and operations into an abstracted, industry-specific, reference semantic model. Build includes software architecture, process modeling, the semantic modeling of assets and locations, and publishing reusable services in the services repository. Visual clickable representations of the assets with process and instrumentation views are provided using ILOG JViews product based on Web 2.0.
  • Run Edition component enables users to process business events and to execute their business process using business process execution language (BPEL) to invoke the services. It uses adapters to integrate the operation's equipment (for example, distributed control system (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC) and systems (for example, historian, equipment monitoring). It is the platform on which the model-driven integration capability in the reference semantic model is implemented at run time. This ontology gives federated access to data without replication. This means that data remains in the emitting systems, helping to avoid error-prone replication of data.

The integration pattern, reference semantic model, and services pattern facilitate access to and utility of real-time information, specifically in the upstream and downstream operations of the chemical and petroleum industry. This access to process tag data by any human or application anywhere in an enterprise, easily and in real time, provides an information transfer model that serves as a directory so users can find data and documents. Business events are defined and managed to help automate and standardize processes involving massive amounts of data to speed predefined processes and alert experts with timely insight.

  • Manage Server Edition and Manage Client Edition components deliver the robust monitoring and management capabilities necessary to manage the SOA infrastructure underlying the Integrated Information Core and the business processes managed within Integrated Information Core. These editions, based on industry standards for system management, can monitor the process orchestrations and services deployed on the run infrastructure. This helps allow chemical and petroleum customers to deliver the expected systems and application performance and availability.

Key benefits

The Integrated Information Core helps deliver business benefits, such as:

  • Reduced operating costs
  • Increased production by utilizing distinctive new technology approaches, including the reference semantic model based on industry standards
  • Web browser visualization software and enablement in an open SOA environment

These capabilities help enable the delivery of a consistent unit operations representation, standardization of processes and performance measures, service patterns, and business event filtering with advanced alerting and visualization capabilities in context of the equipment operations.

Integrated Information Core supports industry standards, both for access to endpoint information (OPC, JDBC, Web Services) as well as for the information model called Reference Semantic Model (RSM) used to describe the enterprise and associated productions assets (ISA S88/S95, ISO 15926, IEEE 61970/68, and MIMOSA/Open O&M).

Integrated operations personnel should be able to work more effectively as a result of the improved integrated operations from the core implementation. Today, information about integrated operations is spread across many systems such as historians, OPC servers and databases. Interpreting that information often requires deep engineering knowledge of the equipment and cryptic names for OPC tabs or database tables and fields. Integrated Information Core, using the reference semantic model, provides model-based access to the information in these disparate systems so that it can be accessed and understood much more easily and rapidly by both people and client applications. This helps to reduce risk and time to value with a pretested platform that can be customized to customers' specific needs.

The capabilities of the Integrated Information Core can help users reduce planned and unplanned shutdowns by performance analysis through integration with asset management applications. This can help increase production and decrease maintenance costs based on delivery of enterprise-wide event-based information.

The Integrated Information Core V1.4 components are:

  • Chemical and Petroleum Integrated Information Framework Build Server Edition
  • Chemical and Petroleum Integrated Information Framework Build Client Edition
  • Chemical and Petroleum Integrated Information Framework Run Edition
  • Chemical and Petroleum Integrated Information Framework Manage Server Edition
  • Chemical and Petroleum Integrated Information Framework Manage Client Edition

These core components can help a business become more agile by extending business process management and best practices with the capability to incrementally add additional assets and processes as the enterprise grows.

Solutions architecture

Given extensive instrumentation across oil fields, pipelines, refineries and chemical plants, the integrated operations vision now requires improving integrated business process management and visualization in context. The Integrated Information Core components can help increase interconnected and intelligent operations with a new approach for accessing disperse control system, historian, and asset data and delivering it to key users and systems in a context ideal for taking smarter action and improving business process execution. This helps transform the way business users view and interact with their upstream and downstream assets and teams.

This core framework is designed to deliver production decision makers with new or improved capabilities:

  • Visualization of contextual oil field information: View the oil field or refinery through an intuitive graphical interface, running on a thin client, where sensor and machine data is presented in clickable, hierarchal levels of detail, ready for analysis and decision making.
  • Better decisions utilizing interconnected, instrumented assets, and predictive analysis: Integrated view of operations information supporting analysis of oil field or refinery production history, status, and events to aid both timely decision-making and operational planning.
  • Intelligent alerts and event management: Detect, evaluate, and respond to business events with pre-defined actions involving both human and computer participants.
  • Optimized automation and integration: Help provide an open enterprise data and process integration framework for existing and new manufacturing applications
  • Team collaboration: Enable or extend the ability to collaborate on challenges and solutions in a timely manner via collaboration technologies, exploiting timely, shared information on what is really happening with the processes and equipment comprising integrated operations.
  • Enterprise connectivity with enterprise asset management, enterprise resource planning, and other systems: Share critical operational information with other enterprise applications enabling extended business users to better plan, forecast, and respond to business imperatives.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User accessing the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case the following applies: Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the program or that is otherwise managed by the program is considered a separate User of the program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Processor Value Unit

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology -- defined within the PVU Table by Processor Value, Brand, Type and Model Number at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
Also, the PVU is based on the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either Full Capacity licensing or Virtualization Capacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (see webpage below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_lic

* An Activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes

  1. Some programs may require licenses for the program AND what is being managed. In that case, the following applies: In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  2. Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis ONLY. In that case, the following applies: Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  3. A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies: Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the Referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the Referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the Referenced program is licensed.
  4. Express® and Workgroup programs may be licensed with maximum use terms. In that case, the following applies: The maximum authorized use terms and conditions for PVU licensed IBM Express and Middleware programs can be found in the IBM Express and Middleware Licensing Guide.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
