IBM Tivoli System Automation Application Manager V3.2 is a high availability and disaster recovery solution providing the unique ability to automate applications across multitiered, heterogeneous environments.
If you ever wanted to increase availability, and automate and manage a multitier application like SAP, including the resources and applications it has relationships and dependencies with, such as NFS and DB2®, IBM Tivoli System Automation Application Manager is the answer. It provides an end-to-end automation manager, which uses adapters to automatically learn about applications and their status from the platform-specific clustering technology, and only the cross-platform resources, groups, and dependencies need to be defined. These platform-specific clustering technologies can be any combination of System Automation for Multiplatforms, other IBM clustering technologies such as HACMP and System Automation for z/OS®, or even non-IBM clustering products such as Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) and Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) on Solaris.
The Application Manager helps:
- Manage applications on single nodes that are not part of a clustered system.
- Model disaster recovery scenarios using Tivoli Productivity Center for Replication.
Tivoli System Automation Application Manager Standard component
Tivoli System Automation Application Manager Standard component enhancements:
- Extended support for additional cluster technology platforms that includes Microsoft Windows and
Sun Solaris, bringing the overall end-to-end solution coverage to:
- Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) (Solaris)
- HACMP (AIX)
- MSCS (Windows)
- System Automation for Multiplatforms (Linux, AIX, Windows, and Sun Solaris)
- System Automation for z/OS
- Ability to manage multitiered application with cross-platform dependencies from one management console. Tivoli System Automation Application Manager enables an operator to stop, start, and move application components from a single pane of glass without having to manage each component on a specific platform.
- Tivoli System Automation Application Manager V3.2 introduces request persistency, which enables it to retain all previously inserted requests and changes to preferred members of choice groups in the system after a planned downtime or failover scenario.
- Support for IP v6 on the server as well as on the cluster technology platforms where a specific adapter may be installed.
- Extends automation to application components that reside on single node clusters or unsupported platforms such as HP-UX through an agentless adapter technology.
- Recovery time measurement and reporting.
- Enhanced configuration GUI for all supported platforms to graphically create and maintain end-to-end automation policies.
- Support for Windows and Linux for System x running under VMware ESX.
- Support for SUSE Linux v11 and Windows Server 2008.
System Automation Application Manager Distributed Disaster Recovery (DDR) component
The optional DDR component extends the rich functionality of the standard System Automation Application Manager version with disaster recovery capabilities by introducing integration with Tivoli Productivity Center Replication (TPC-R) to provide disaster recovery functionality enhancements. This feature allows System Automation Application Manager to coordinate data replication between two DR sites. In addition, it supports Globally Dispersed Parallel Sysplex Distributed Cluster Management (GDPS DCM). This allows System Automation Application Manager to detect critical application and resource outages on open systems and z/OS, and notify GDPS. GDPS can take these notifications and use them as triggers for disaster recovery actions. In case of planned or unplanned disaster recovery actions, GDPS will notify System Automation Application Manager to take appropriate, coordinated actions on open systems and z/OS; for example, stop or restart the workload with a modified configuration on a backup site.
Integration with Tivoli Productivity Center for Replication for disaster recovery scenarios
This new capability is only contained in the DDR component (and not in the System Automation Application Manager standard component). This new approach for a disaster recovery solution will allow you to model DR scenarios in a different way from today's collections of independent stretched clusters. The DDR Manager vision is to enhance Tivoli System Automation Application Manager to not only control applications but also control the storage-based replication underneath. As a result, Tivoli System Automation Application Manager will allow modeling complex DR scenarios for open platforms. This requires the integration of Tivoli System Automation Application Manager with TotalStorage® Productivity Center for Replication. The new feature of Tivoli System Automation Application Manager will allow automating heterogeneous, cross-platform multitier applications including the data replication.
System Automation Application Manager to manage single node clusters
Currently, many UNIX and Windows customers are not managing all nodes within a clustered environment. The same nodes are not part of any automation platform. Instead, customers running distributed platforms are using handwritten scripts in contrast to mainframe customers where the usage of automation products is the default. Since the application structure on the distributed platform can be quite complex, especially in case of enterprise applications such as SAP, System Automation Application Manager can provide tremendous help to the operations team introducing mainframe-like automation concepts to applications on the distributed platforms. For instance, in most cases, customers are using Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms for a clustered, high availability setup. As a result, non-clustered applications are mostly not considered in the automation scope of Tivoli System Application Manager. This new functionality will now enable customers to manage application components that are spread in their environment irrespective of being involved in a clustered setup.
The automation policies for System Automation Application Manager are defined and then stored in the form of an XML document. The System Automation administrator currently has to use a favored XML editor to define or modify the automation policy. The related drawbacks are addressed by a user interface that can be used to graphically create and modify automation policies for System Automation Application Manager without the need to edit any XML document.
Policy GUI enhancements:
- Enables movement of resources from one system (node) to another node
- Simplifies the login mechanism to various automation domains

|IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing|
IBM Tivoli software products are priced using IBM Tivoli's Enhanced Value-Based Pricing. The Enhanced Value-Based Pricing system is based upon the IBM Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model, which uses a managed-environment approach -- whereby price is determined by what is managed rather than the number and type of product components installed.
For example, all servers monitored with IBM Tivoli's monitoring product (IBM Tivoli Monitoring) require entitlements sufficient for those servers. Other Tivoli products may manage clients, client devices, agents, network nodes, users, or other items, and are licensed and priced accordingly.
Unlike typical systems management licensing models that require entitlements of specific software components to specific systems, the IBM Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model provides the customer flexibility to deploy its IBM Tivoli software products within its environment in a manner that can address and respond to the customer's evolving architecture. That is, as the architecture of a customer's environment changes, the customer's implementation of IBM Tivoli software can be altered, as needed, without affecting the customer's license requirements (as long as the customer does not exceed its entitlements to the software).
Under Enhanced Value-Based Pricing, licensing and pricing of server-oriented applications are determined based upon the server's use in the customer's environment. Typically, such applications are licensed and priced in a manner that corresponds to each installed and activated processor of the server managed by the IBM Tivoli application to help correlate price to value while offering a simple solution.
For servers with physical or logical (sometimes called virtual) parti- tions, entitlements are required for all installed and activated processors on the server. For each Tivoli application managing a clustered environment, licensing is based on the cumulative number of installed and activated processors on each server in the cluster.
Enhanced Value-Based Pricing recognizes the convergence of RISC and UNIX, and Microsoft Windows and Intel® technologies, in order to simplify your licensing requirements, and to provide a smoother, more scalable model. Pricing and licensing does not differentiate between non-System z server platforms or operating systems. For some products, this platform neutrality extends to System z and other host servers as well.
IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing terminology definitions
Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor vendor, brand, type, and model number at
and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.
Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms. (Refer to the Web page below.) If using full capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at
* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.
Note: Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies: Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
Standby or backup systems
For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations: cold, warm and hot. In cold and warm situations, a separate entitlement for the copy on the backup machine is normally not required and typically no additional charge applies. In a hot backup situation, the customer needs to acquire other license or entitlements sufficient for that server. All programs running in backup mode must be solely under the customer's control, even if running at another enterprise's location.
As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the program used for backup purposes.
Cold: A copy of the program may reside, for backup purposes, on a machine as long as the program is not started. There is no additional charge for this copy.
Warm: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is idling, and is not doing any work of any kind. There is no additional charge for this copy.
Hot: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine, is started, and is doing work. The customer must acquire a license or entitlements for this copy and there will generally be an additional charge.
Doing work includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files, synchronization of programs, data or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database or other resource, and so on), or any activity or configurations that would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch over between programs, databases, or other resources to occur.
In the case of a program or system configuration that is designed to support a high availability environment by using various techniques (for example, duplexing, mirroring of files, or transactions, maintaining a heartbeat, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource), the program is considered to be doing work in the hot situation and a license or entitlement must be purchased.

Through the Passport Advantage Agreement, you may receive discounted pricing based on their total volume of eligible products, across all IBM brands, acquired worldwide. The volume is measured by determining the total Passport Advantage points value of the applicable acquisitions. Passport Advantage points are only used for calculating the Entitled Passport Advantage discount.
To determine the required IBM Tivoli product configuration under Passport Advantage, the IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing Model applies. The customer's environment is evaluated on a per-product basis.
Use the following two-step process to determine the total Passport Advantage points value:
- Analyze your environment to determine the number of charge units for a product. The quantity of each product's part numbers to be ordered is determine by that analysis.
- Order the Passport Advantage part numbers. A Passport Advantage point value, which is the same worldwide for a specific part number regardless of where the order is placed, is assigned to each IBM Tivoli product part number. The Passport Advantage point value for the applicable part number, multiplied by the quantity for that part number, will determine the Passport Advantage points for that IBM Tivoli product part number. The sum of these Passport Advantage points determines the Passport Advantage point value of the applicable IBM Tivoli product authorizations which then may be aggregated with the point value of other applicable Passport Advantage product acquisitions to determine the total Passport Advantage points value.
The discounted pricing available through Passport Advantage is expressed in the form of Suggested Volume Prices (SVPs), which vary depending on the SVP level. Each SVP level is assigned a minimum total Passport Advantage point value, which must be achieved, in order to qualify for that SVP level.
Media packs and documentation packs do not carry Passport Advantage points and are not eligible for SVP discounting.
For additional information on Passport Advantage, refer to the following
The following Passport Advantage part number categories may be orderable:
- License and Software Maintenance 12 Months - This is the product authorization with maintenance to the first anniversary date.
- Annual Software Maintenance Renewal - This is the maintenance renewal for one anniversary that applies when a customer renews their existing coverage period prior to the anniversary date at which it expires.
- Software Maintenance Reinstatement 12 months - This is for customers who have allowed their Software Maintenance to expire, and later wish to reinstate their Software Maintenance.
- Media packs - These are the physical media, such as CD-ROMs, that deliver the product's code.

|IBM Electronic Services|
IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.
The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
