With IBM Optim Data Privacy Solution, you can take steps to protect privacy while still providing realistic data for use in development, testing, or training. When you use Optim to mask confidential data, you help protect privacy and better safeguard shareholder value.
Optim's masking techniques include using arithmetic expressions, sub-strings, random or sequential number generation, date aging, and more.
The Optim components function as follows:
- The Optim Designer, based on the Eclipse platform, builds models and services needed by the management server and its proxies to execute data management operations. Optim services are published to a central registry and then assigned to a management server and proxy where they can be executed from the Web-based management console. Optionally, Optim services can be executed locally from the Optim Designer in a test mode without the need to publish.
- The Optim Management Server, based on the Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE 6) platform, delegates the operations in an Optim service, set up in the Optim Designer, to one or more proxies and hosts the centralized repository for models and other information needed to orchestrate the workload.
- The Optim Proxy, based on Web services, acts as a trusted extension of the management server, executing one or more Optim services.
- The Optim Management Console is a Web-based tool hosted by the management server.
- Derby database contains replacement data as well as predefined source and target data sources.
Features of Optim Data Privacy Solution V2.1 include:
- Support for creating global data masking policies
- Rules-based data masking for dates, character and numeric values, e-mail addresses, credit card numbers of the major credit card associations, and the national IDs of Canada, Spain, France, Italy, UK, and U.S.
- Data Privacy models for masking dates, characters and numbers, and personal identities
- Out-of-the-box replacement data for common attributes such as address, first name, last name, and company name
Optim Data Privacy Solution - PCI Module V2.1 offers data masking capabilities that help companies address Requirements 6 and 7 of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), which restrict access to and utilization of sensitive cardholder data.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is a unit of measure by which these software products can be licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor technology (defined within the PVU table1 by processor vendor, brand, type, and model number). IBM continues to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. Each software product has a unique price per PVU. To determine the total cost of deploying an individual software product in a specific hardware environment, you must take the following steps:
- For each processor core in the hardware environment on which the software product is to be licensed, determine the PVU requirement based on its processor technology per the PVU table1.
- The PVU requirements for all processor cores in the hardware environment.
- Multiply the software product's price per PVU by the total number of PVUs required as determined in step 2 above.
PVU entitlements are specific to a software product and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another software product.
Unless you have deployed eligible sub-capacity products according to the sub-capacity1 terms, you must obtain PVU Proof of Entitlements (PoEs) for the maximum number of activated2 physical processor cores in the hardware environment made available to, or managed by, the software product. This is also referred to as full capacity licensing.
- For information regarding PVU and sub-capacity licensing, including the latest PVU table, visit
- Activated processor cores are physical processor cores that are available
for use in a server. They include processor cores:
- That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the manufacturer
- That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from the server manufacturer by the customer
- Whose capacity can be limited by the customer through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, and BIOS settings.

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.
The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems.
