IBM® Retail Store Server brings all new bundles, updated bundles, and updated middleware to the retail store environment.

IBM Retail Store Server Starter Edition and IBM Retail Store Server Starter Edition with Informix® Dynamic Server now come with updated middleware.

IBM WebSphere® Remote Server Advanced Edition has been replaced with IBM Retail Store Server Advanced Edition which includes WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere MQ, DB2® Workgroup Edition (Informix Dynamic Server Workgroup Edition) and WebSphere sMash with additional functionality above what is offered in the Starter editions.

New in this bundle is WebSphere sMash, which enables developers to quickly build and execute agile, Web 2.0-based applications that help businesses be more responsive, flexible and cost-effective. It also includes IBM Reliable Transport Extension for WebSphere sMash that provides additional capability for WebSphere sMash applications to interact, using an asynchronous, reliable transport based on queues.

A new bundle named IBM Tivoli® Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for IBM Retail Store Server is offered with this release, providing monitoring and provisioning for retail store servers. It includes software previously offered in the WebSphere Remote Server Standard and Advanced Editions.

IBM WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus Retail Store Server Edition and IBM WebSphere Message Broker Retail Store Edition have both been upgraded to their respective version 7.

Since the retail store environment is rapidly changing and the need for additional capabilities at the store level is growing, a flexible architecture is even more critical in today's fast moving technology. With IBM WebSphere Remote Server V7.1 and its components, you get eight updated bundles with the latest versions of WebSphere Application Server ND, DB2, Informix Dynamic Server, WebSphere MQ, WebSphere sMash, WebSphere Message Broker, WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus, and a new Tivoli monitoring and provisioning bundle. The addition of WebSphere sMash to the Advanced bundles enables developers to quickly build and execute agile, Web 2.0-based applications that help retailers be more responsive, flexible, and cost effective in a challenging economy. Key prerequisites

To purchase IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for IBM Retail Store Server, customers need to purchase one of the IBM Retail Store Server Starter or Advanced Editions. The limitations on the size of the server (400 PVUs for Starter Editions and 480 PVUs for Advanced Editions) are applied based on the IBM Retail Store Server bundle purchased. What's new

In WebSphere Remote Server V7.1, there are many changes affecting the bundling structure.

IBM WebSphere Remote Server Standard Edition is no longer available and being replaced by a combination of IBM Retail Store Server Starter Edition and IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for IBM Retail Store Server, the same level of functionality is achieved by combining the two bundles. Current WebSphere Remote Server Standard Edition will be entitled to both the IBM Retail Store Server Starter edition and the IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for IBM Retail Store Server.

IBM Retail Store Server Advanced Edition now only includes the base middleware components: WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere MQ, DB2 Workgroup Server Edition (or Informix Dynamic Server), and WebSphere sMash. To obtain monitoring and provisioning capabilities, a new bundle must be purchased: IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for IBM Retail Store Server. Current customers will be entitled to both the IBM Retail Store Server Advanced Edition and the IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On for IBM Retail Store Server.

In previous releases, WebSphere Remote Server Standard and Advanced editions included the following Tivoli products: IBM Tivoli Monitoring, IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Database, Tivoli Omegamon XE for Messaging for Distributed Systems, and IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Web Racecourses. These products have been replaced by the IBM Tivoli Composite Manager for Applications V6.2.

IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Applications V6.2 provides:

IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager V7.1.1 is a key product in the IBM Service Management suite of products. The previous release, IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager V7.1, integrated Tivoli Provisioning Manager functionality onto the Tivoli process automation engine. When it comes to provisioning, IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager which is in included in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Provisioning Add On can help automate tasks to address application or business service operational management challenges. IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager can help automate the procedures to provision physical or virtual servers. The customer is responsible for evaluation and selection of the various WebSphere Remote Server security features, including the implementation of authentication and authorization policies. Processor Value Unit (PVU)

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology, defined within the PVU Table by Processor Vendor, Brand, Type and Model Number at

and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

The Licensee can deploy the program using either Full Capacity licensing or Virtualization Capacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to Web site below). If using Full Capacity licensing, the Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores¹ in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, the Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

¹ An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Client device

Client device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A client device is a computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. Multiple client devices may share access to a common server. A client device generally has some processing capability or is programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to appliances, automated teller machines, cash registers, disk drive, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistant, point-of-sale terminals, tape drive, and technical workstations. Licensee must obtain entitlements for every client device which runs, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the program and for every other computer or server on which the program is installed.
