Product positioning
Bottom rule

IBM InfoSphere Content Assessment is positioned as a decision-making environment tool for IT and business users to understand the business value of unstructured and unmanaged content scattered across an organization.

IBM InfoSphere Content Assessment empowers organizations to recognize what content could be decommissioned, potentially resulting in immediate IT cost savings. Combined with additional tools such as the IBM InfoSphere Content Collector, IBM InfoSphere Content Assessment can further enable selective content decommissioning and can support the decision-making process by setting ongoing archiving and collection policies.

IBM InfoSphere Content Assessment helps reduce risk and compliance exposure by improving the comprehensiveness of eDiscovery collection, allowing organizations to dynamically identify and collect potentially responsive information from content sources that have not been proactively managed for compliance.

A typical buyer of IBM InfoSphere Content Assessment may be an IT buyer who needs to assess and decommission content that is not needed, or a compliance officer or records manager who needs to dynamically collect content for eDiscovery purposes.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which this software product can be licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor technology (defined within the PVU table* by processor vendor, brand, type and model number). IBM continues to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. Each software product has a unique price per PVU. To determine the total cost of deploying an individual software product in a specific hardware environment, you must take the following steps:

  1. For each processor core in the hardware environment on which the software product is to be licensed, determine the PVU requirement based on its processor technology per the PVU table*.
  2. Add the PVU requirements for all processor cores in the hardware environment.
  3. Multiply the software product's price per PVU by the total number of PVUs required as determined in step 2 above.

PVU entitlements are specific to a software product and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another software product.

Unless you have deployed eligible sub-capacity products according to the sub-capacity* terms, you must obtain PVU Proof of Entitlements (PoEs) for the maximum number of activated** physical processor cores in the hardware environment made available to or managed by the software product. This is also referred to as full capacity licensing.

*For information regarding PVU and sub-capacity licensing, including the latest PVU table, visit

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

** Activated processor cores are physical processor cores that are available for use in a server. They include processor cores:

  • That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the manufacturer
  • That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from the server manufacturer by the customer
  • Whose capacity can be limited by the customer through Virtualization technologies, Operating System commands and BIOS settings

Resource Value Unit (RVU)

RVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. RVU PoEs are based on the number of units of a specific resource used or managed by the program. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements for the number of RVUs required for licensee's environment for the specific resources as specified in the table below. RVU entitlements are specific to the program and the type of resource and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with RVU entitlements of another program or resource.

The number of RVUs licensee requires is based on the maximum number of gigabytes (or portion of a gigabyte) of content that the program is authorized to ingest at any one time in order to be analyzed and assessed. At all times, the number of RVU license entitlements that licensee acquires must correspond to or exceed the total amount of content that the program will ingest at any one time in order to be analyzed and assessed. The program is licensed on an RVU basis and is measured by gigabyte. A gigabyte is 2 to the 30th power bytes (1,073,741,824 bytes).

RVU license conversion table

  • From 1 to 500 Gigabytes, RVUs per Gigabyte: 1.0000 for a maximum of 500 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 500)
  • From 501 to 1500 Gigabytes, RVUs per Gigabyte: 0.8455 for a maximum of 1500 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 1500)
  • From 1501 to 3000 Gigabytes, RVUs per Gigabyte: 0.6137 for a maximum of 3000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 3000)
  • From 3001 to 5000 Gigabytes, RVUs per Gigabyte: 0.4639 for a maximum of 5000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 5000)
  • From 5001 to 12000 Gigabytes, RVUs per Gigabyte: 0.3870 for a maximum of 12000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 12000)
  • For 12001 Gigabytes or greater, RVUs per Gigabyte: 0.3097
