IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary V8.1.2

IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary is an interactive, Web-based tool that helps enable users to create, manage, and share an enterprise vocabulary and classification system. The alignment of business terms with technical information assets helps enable business and IT communities to collaborate and govern their data more effectively. The data stewardship capability of this tool can be used to support data governance policies. Organizations can jump-start their business glossary deployment with a rich set of authoritative terms and definitions for banking, financial markets, health, insurance, telecommunications, and retail industries that IBM has developed with more than 400 clients and 10 years of experience. These tool packs deliver a broad range of industry terms and help ensure that projects are delivered faster and with less risk.

New features include:

  • Business lineage: Understanding business provenance and the sources of information that populate business reports is critical to business users. While a technical user requires comprehensive understanding of all transformations applied during the data integration process, a business user needs a consolidated and simple way to look at this information. Business lineage provides business users the ability to validate the accuracy and credibility of their reports in a simple and easy-to-understand format.
  • Viewing permissions for Business Glossary terms and categories: High-security and confidential customer information often should not be published to everyone in the organization. Banking, finance, defense, healthcare, and insurance organizations need the ability to restrict access to certain terms within the organization. This feature allows administrators to restrict viewing access to terms and categories in accordance with company policies.
  • Business classification of any IT asset: With the adoption of InfoSphere Business Glossary as the central collaboration tool between business and IT, the ability to define business context around any type of IT asset becomes critical. This capability allows business terms to be linked to a variety of new IT assets, including business process models, structured and unstructured data sources, UML models, Web services, and third-party applications. With this capability, InfoSphere Business Glossary users can obtain a holistic business view over their disparate and diverse IT environment.
  • Enhanced integration with Cognos: When trying to find the meaning of a business term in the context of an IT environment, seeing where the business term is used often has more value than the description of the term itself. For example, seeing how a term is used in BI reports and dashboards can provide very meaningful data to the Business Glossary user. Users can now directly launch the Cognos Go! search service from Business Glossary. This integration can provide a one-click access to meaningful and relevant business intelligence (BI) data, helping to improve productivity and quality of the decision making.
  • Navigate from IT assets to business terms: Users of Business Glossary can now directly locate information assets such as BI reports, tables, and columns in Business Glossary. A hierarchical tree view of these assets allows Business Glossary users to directly locate this information. This shortens employee cycles spent on searching for IT information nested within the business context. The Business Glossary user can then directly see the linkage of these technical assets to relevant business terms, definitions, and other classifications.
  • Transfer Information Assets between Data Stewards: An automated way to transfer the ownership of information assets, such as tables, columns, and BI reports, between data stewards can help ensure information accuracy and up-to-date business controls.

IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary Anywhere V8.1.2

IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary Anywhere helps users understand business terminology directly from any desktop application via a pop-up window or by directly embedding that information in any application. Users can view or author business definitions without loss of context or focus.

New features include:

  • Eclipse Development based on Business Glossary classification: A new Eclipse plug-in provides access to InfoSphere Business Glossary terms and classifications from within any Eclipse-based development environment. This helps ensure application developers to use Business Glossary as an authoritative source of business terminology for building their applications. With a direct integration, access, and visibility to a Business Glossary, developers face less ambiguity and have more confidence in building applications that are accurate, complete, and consistent with business objectives. This plug-in provides the foundation for any Eclipse-based tool to extend its functionality and integrate with InfoSphere Business Glossary. This helps accelerate the speed in information exchange between technical and business staff, streamline costs of building applications, and increase the quality of the final solution.
  • UML Modeling based on Business Glossary Classification: In addition to the Eclipse plug-in feature that provides access to Business Glossary classifications and terms from any Eclipse development environment, this feature allows data modelers, using IBM Rational® Software Architect and IBM Rational Software Modeler, to build UML models according to the Business Glossary classifications. As an authoritative source of information, business glossary terms and their attributes can be used to populate a UML entity. For example, a UML class can be named according to the business term or can be associated with one or more other business terms. A UML class can also inherit the description of the business term or even the data steward associated with that term. These linkages help ensure that a business perspective is available while IT environments are implemented. It can help shorten the development cycles and can help ensure that technical assets such as logical and physical tables that are derived from UML models are built according to business specifications. Furthermore, an automatic update and validation of the UML model against any changes of the glossary can suggest quick fixes to keep the two sources synchronized.

IBM InfoSphere Metadata Workbench V8.1.2

IBM InfoSphere Metadata Workbench allows visual, Web-based exploration of information assets generated and used by IBM InfoSphere Information Server and other third-party applications. This visualization can help significantly increase the understanding of the most important information. In addition, the robust querying capabilities of the InfoSphere Metadata Workbench provide the IT community with broad and flexible data lineage reports that helps enable deep understanding of the data being used in their environments and a method to monitor their data integration activities over time. The powerful impact analysis provided by this tool can help data analysts and developers make better decisions when faced with changes in data integration projects.

New features include:

  • Configuration of business lineage: With this release of InfoSphere Business Glossary, business users have the ability to view business lineage to further understand the credibility and accuracy of their business reports and applications. InfoSphere Metadata Workbench administrators configure the specific elements of data lineage that are relative to their business user needs and requirements. This creates a simplified and concise data lineage for business users and promotes greater trust across the user community.
  • Custom attributes for Data Lineage Extender: InfoSphere Metadata Workbench allows users to extend lineage visibility on data integration projects to transformations performed outside of InfoSphere Information Server. This new custom attribute feature allows administrators to further describe extended data lineage with additional information, relevant to the unique aspects of their IT environment. Users can directly locate this critical information through advanced search and querying capabilities.

IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer V8.1.2

IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer helps you assess, manage, and monitor heterogeneous enterprise data quality to support information-centric project requirements. Information Analyzer is focused on performing a source analysis to uncover data issues such as duplication, incompleteness, invalid values, and format violations that exist within or across systems, and to help ensure that data follows de facto and documented business rules. It identifies anomalies that violate those business rules on an ongoing basis and provides exception management capabilities.

New features include:

  • Automatic data classification for more than 30 data classes including sensitive data: Advanced data classification capabilities extend visibility beyond core data quality analysis so data can be tagged for enterprise privacy requirements and governance policies. Extended data classes include support for sensitive data such as personal identification, postal codes, e-mail addresses, and credit card numbers.
  • Annotated data models for use with InfoSphere Data Architect and Optim: The ability to share data findings, such as advanced data classifications, across development teams increases collaboration and synergy for well-designed solutions. For example, validation of sensitive data fields found during data quality assessments can be shared with InfoSphere Data Architect and Optim offerings to help ensure compliance with privacy requirements.
  • Generate and share inferred data models: Data quality analysis often impacts how information is modeled. These discovered data properties, relationships, and domain classifications can be shared via ANSI data definition language for use by data modelers using InfoSphere Data Architect and developers using FastTrack and Information Server for consistency and reuse between components.
  • DB2® and Teradata connector support: With DB2 and Teradata connector support, business users now have additional native connection options to these data sources.
  • Rules Analysis functions enhanced: Users can share or copy data rules within and across projects, making them available for broader reuse and best practices within InfoSphere Foundation Tools and InfoSphere Information Server. Users will also be able to select the results of calculations or expressions as output that is visible and reportable from a rule execution, providing additional details for ongoing quality monitoring.
  • Natural key identification/analysis: Provides business users with inferred or identified natural key selection, giving users more options when data sets have other data elements that are suited to be a key. This capability is beneficial for data quality analysis where primary/foreign keys are not known or available.

IBM InfoSphere FastTrack V8.1.2

IBM InfoSphere FastTrack helps streamline collaboration between business analysts, data modelers, and developers by capturing and defining business requirements in a common, familiar format and then transforming that business logic directly into InfoSphere DataStage™ ETL jobs.

New features include:

  • Rules Discovery import from InfoSphere Discovery provides the ability to discover hidden data transformations between sources and targets and bring those relationships directly into mapping specifications.
  • Deployment of mapping specifications from one environment to another facilitates sharing of specifications.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

The Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. Proofs of Entitlement for PVUs are based on processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by Processor Vendor, Brand, Type, and Model Number) at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_ customers.html

IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip.

Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover every activated processor core3 in the environment which is made available to the program. Unless the program is eligible for IBM's sub-capacity licensing terms and Licensee has deployed the program according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms. Refer to

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/subcaplicensing.html

Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores3 in the physical hardware environment.

3
An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server. When the program is not licensed and deployed under the Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms, the physical hardware environment includes all processor cores:
  • That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the manufacturer
  • or
  • That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from the server manufacturer by the customer

In each case, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor cores can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Concurrent User

Concurrent User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Concurrent User is a person who is accessing the program at any particular point in time. Regardless of whether the person is simultaneously accessing the program multiple times, the person counts only as a single Concurrent User. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers, but Licensee must obtain entitlements for the maximum number of Concurrent Users simultaneously accessing the program. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each simultaneous Concurrent User accessing the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers, and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User accessing the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.

The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

Warranty

IBM warrants that the program, when used in its specified operating environment, will conform to its specifications. The program's specifications, and specified operating environment information, can be found in documentation accompanying the program (such as a readme file) or other information published by IBM (such as an announcement letter). Licensee agrees that such documentation and other program content may be supplied only in the English language, unless otherwise required by local law without the possibility of contractual waiver or limitation.

The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program, or that IBM will correct all program defects. Licensee is responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

During the Warranty Period, IBM provides Licensee with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. Consult the IBM Software Support Handbook for further information at

http://www.ibm.com/software/support

If the program does not function as warranted during the Warranty Period and the problem cannot be resolved with information available in the IBM databases, Licensee may return the program and its PoE to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom Licensee obtained it and receive a refund of the amount Licensee paid. After returning the program, Licensee's license terminates. If Licensee downloaded the program, Licensee should contact the party from whom Licensee obtained it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee
  • For programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program.
Authorization for use on home/portable computer

The program may be stored on the primary machine and another machine, provided that the program is not in active use on both machines at the same time. You may not copy and use this program on another computer without paying additional license fees.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
