Description
Bottom rule

IBM System Storage Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM) V10.3.2 builds on preceding versions.

M-Enterprise OS (M-EOS) support

DCFM supports management of M-EOS or m-type fabrics consisting solely of McData SAN networking elements. A b-type Fabric OS (FOS) switch is no longer required as a discovery switch. An m-type device -- M4400, M4700, or Mi10K -- running M-EOS V9.9.2, or later should be selected as the discovery switch in order to obtain full fabric membership information. DCFM for M-EOS fabrics scales up to 24 fabrics and 5,000 switch ports.

Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and converged enhanced Ethernet (CEE) management

DCFM is a single solution to manage both traditional Fibre Channel and FCoE supported devices for converged environments. Trouble-shooting and diagnostics capabilities within DCFM enable rapid problem isolation for Ethernet-specific versus Fibre Channel-specific issues on the converged link. A new network administrator role enables fine-grained access control for CEE configuration. Configuration management for FCoE and CEE includes CEE interface administration, FCoE port and trunk configurations, and various policies such as ACL, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), 802.1x, and LLDP, that can be applied either at port, at Link Aggregation Group (LAG), or even at switch level.

Integrated host bus adapter (HBA) and converged network adapter (CNA) management

DCFM provides unified management of fabric, HBAs, and CNAs, including group management across hundreds of adapters from a single console. With the new Server Administrator role-based access control (RBAC) role, users have fine-grained access control for HBA and CNA configuration. DCFM discovers and displays Brocade HBAs and CNAs in the topology view, including Server-to-HBA or Server-to-CNA automatic mapping. DCFM displays adapter properties, and collects and displays statistics. SupportSave for HBAs and CNAs may also be performed to help with troubleshooting. Both host and switch ports can be configured for FC-SP and Trunking from DCFM. Host Connectivity Manager (the element manager for HBAs and CNAs) can be launched in context from DCFM for in-depth device-specific configuration.

Server virtualization support

DCFM provides virtual machine connectivity information to the SAN administrator, including virtual machine-level visibility and configuration support for areas such as quality of service (QoS) settings, top talking virtual machines, performance stats at the virtual machine level, and more. DCFM discovers VMware ESX virtual machines and reports inventory and detailed information such as IP address, guest operating system, status, and virtual CPU (vCPU) count. DCFM displays virtual machine properties, including end-to-end path from virtual machine to LUN.

Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) enhancements

DCFM enables users to view all discovered tunnels and circuits across all fabrics. In addition to support for the new extension hardware (SAN06B-R (2498-R06) and #3890 8 Gbps Extension Blade for the SAN768B (2499-384) and SAN384B (2499-192)) features, DCFM includes a comprehensive FCIP Tunnels Configuration dialog which replaces the existing FCIP Tunnel Wizard. DCFM incorporates enhancements for Connection Properties, Flyovers, and the Topology View.

Encryption enhancements

All DCFM editions support Brocade Encryption products. DCFM provides configuration and management capabilities for fabric-based encryption for data-at-rest including integration with partner key management products. It includes support for NetApp LKM Trust Establishment Package (TEP), NetApp Trust Acceptance Package (TAP), and Thales Encryption Manager for Storage. DCFM includes support for Quorum and System Cards, as well as improved navigation.

FICON enhancements

DCFM enables easy configuration of cascaded FICON and rapid trouble-shooting for conflict resolution. The Cascaded FICON Merge wizard for conflict resolution now includes Data Field Size and VC Priority. The Card Swap Function allows users to swap a failing card with a new one and maintain the port address and port index.

Prohibit Dynamic Connectivity Mask (PDCM) enhancements include the ability to:

  • Warn users when prohibiting E-E and E-F port connections
  • Provision the same PDCM updates to multiple switches
  • Directly enter row and column for prohibit and allow

Reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) enhancements

  • SupportSave includes the ability to:
    • Configure an interval at which SupportSaves will be captured from specified switches automatically
    • Select an option in the SupportSave dialog to trigger fabric-wide SupportSaves
    • Increase simultaneous switch SupportSaves captures to 50 from 10
  • Policy Engine includes an event policy to capture SupportSave when user-specified events occur.
  • Fault Management includes the ability to receive syslog events from HBAs, as well as includes an increase in the maximum number of events stored in the database to 20,000 from 10,000.
  • Debug logging improvements include:
    • Logging of messages at the appropriate level to prevent rollover of logs
    • Increasing the default size of log files from 5 MB to 10 MB
    • Ability to isolate failures to small grained tasks (for example, failure to collect one piece of data due to errors will not prevent collection of remaining data)
    • Inclusion of data source name to avoid ambiguity when there are multiple data collection sources
  • Additional enhancements include:
    • Ability to e-mail DCFM event log as a text file or captured SupportSave file
    • Ability to register DCFM as a trace-dump destination
    • Port Fencing policies for Class 3 frame drops
    • Audit log application events that are now generated for all important user actions

Zoning enhancements

DCFM includes enhanced capabilities for traffic isolation (TI) zones and quality of service (QoS) domain and port index zones. DCFM collects active TI zone information and stores it in the database, and displays differences between an active TI zone and defined TI zone in the zone database. DCFM includes the option to show and hide ICLs and a user-configurable policy to control the number of zone database modifications around the following parameters:

  • Set limits on number of editing operations (add/remove/modify) a user can perform in zones, zone configurations, and aliases, and on zone members, before activation
  • Set policy by fabric since limits may vary (for example, disk vs. tape)
  • Warn users when policy is exceeded and prevent user from proceeding further

DCFM also includes support for QoS domain and port index zones.

Server is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more user or client devices. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for each server regardless of the number of processor cores or partitions in the server on which the program runs or each server managed by the program. Where blade technology is employed, each blade is considered a separate server.
