WebSphere Process
Server is at the heart of your business process management (BPM) solutions.
It is designed to help ensure that the processes you design in WebSphere Business
Modeler or WebSphere Integration
Developer are executed consistently, reliably, securely, and with transactional
integrity. Built on open standards, WebSphere Process Server deploys and
executes processes that orchestrate services (people, information, systems,
and trading partners) within your service oriented architecture (SOA) or non-SOA
infrastructure. When combined with the power of WebSphere Business Monitor, processes
can be optimized to meet changing business requirements, giving the business
a competitive advantage. WebSphere Process Server is built upon, and contains, WebSphere ESB
functionality.
WebSphere Integration
Developer is the user-friendly authoring environment for end-to-end integration
in your SOA. It is the Eclipse-based tool for building SOA-based BPM and integration
solutions across WebSphere Process Server, WebSphere ESB, and WebSphere Adapters.
It simplifies integration with rich features that accelerate the adoption
of SOA by rendering existing IT assets as service components, encouraging
reuse and efficiency. WebSphere Integration Developer enables integration
developers to assemble complex business solutions -- whether processes, mediations,
adapters, or code components -- using drag-and-drop technology to define,
in a visual way, the sequence and flow of business processes. The supplied
visual editors minimize the need to write code.
WebSphere Enterprise
Service Bus (WebSphere ESB)
is a flexible connectivity infrastructure for integrating applications and
services, designed to enable the development of an SOA. Built on top of WebSphere Application
Server for an integrated SOA platform, WebSphere ESB delivers a standards-based
connectivity and integration solution that allows you to create and deploy
interactions quickly and easily between applications and services, with a
reduced number and complexity of interfaces. You can focus on your core business,
rather than on your IT.
Media Extender for WebSphere Process Server provides extended service
mediation facilities that can be used as components in workflows that handle
large multimedia files, making the workflow simpler. The mediation facilities
form part of a solution to enable business transformation by linking business
and content systems together for effective media, or other rich content, management.
These facilities can radically simplify the construction of media-oriented
integration projects and workflows. The three mediation primitives can be
used to enable registry-based decision making that respects media formats,
content location, and resource availability. The primitives are programmed
using WebSphere Integration
Developer, resulting in ESB mediation flows. When deployed into WebSphere ESB,
these mediations resolve media transformation and movement requirements. They
can be used as simple services in business workflow models, hiding the complexity
of media and rich content processing.
WebSphere Adapters
help with business integration by connecting application and information assets
to the ESB. They accelerate business integration projects with rapidly deployable,
enterprise-ready connections based on best practices. The WebSphere Adapter
portfolio provides a comprehensive set of capabilities to service-enable your
assets, including packaged, custom, and legacy applications, technology protocols,
and databases.

Value Unit-based pricing
Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM System z® IBM International Program License Agreement
(IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise
aggregation. Each System z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has
a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit,
for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly,
Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted
to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs
are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder
of this description.
Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each System z IPLA
program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy
applicable IBM terms
and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each
of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required
license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit
Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three digit code and referred to using
the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.
Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional
price benefits. The quantity of each System z IPLA program that you have
acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you wish
to grow your entitled license capacity for a System z IPLA program, the calculation
to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value
Units already acquired.
For each System
z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:
- Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
- Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
- Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit
Exhibit
- Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to
determine the total cost
To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or
vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information
or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit
Converter Tool Web site
- http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice/vuctool
Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged,
or aggregated with Value Units of another product.
To determine the required license capacity for the System z IPLA program you selected,
refer to the Terms and conditions section.

SOA. It adds an industry-specific, semantically aware layer to the IBM SOA Foundation
to enable dynamic business service personalization and delivery based on business
context. WebSphere Service
Registry and Repository provides the technical service metadata underpinning,
serving as a prerequisite for the WebSphere Business Services Fabric
solution. Note that this product is bundled with WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Integration
Developer by default.
- WebSphere MQ,
available on more than 80 platform configurations, offers the core of application
integration connectivity, and integrates many differing platforms, systems,
and applications. It delivers heterogeneous messaging, extending your ESB
with assured, reliable message delivery.
- WebSphere MQ
File Transfer Edition adds file-specific features to the proven WebSphere MQ
transport. It delivers a managed file transfer solution that enables the movement
of files between IT systems with reliability and minimizes the need for programming.
- WebSphere Message
Broker makes full use of the transport and connectivity options provided by WebSphere MQ
and WebSphere Application
Server, and allows additional routing and transformation capabilities to implement
an integration-based ESB.
- WebSphere Process
Server, which is built using WebSphere ESB, offers a rich and comprehensive
SOA-based process integration solution, built on top of the industry's leading Java EE
runtime, delivering process design and deployment as well as management capabilities
to extend any choice of application infrastructure and application integration,
but ideal for extending the service-oriented integration provided by WebSphere ESB
to solve higher-level business problems.
- WebSphere Integration
Developer, the development tool of choice for WebSphere ESB and WebSphere Process
Server, delivers a visual development environment for modeling, testing, configuring,
and deploying process ESB and process integration solutions. WebSphere Integration
Developer simplifies process integration with rich features that accelerate
the adoption of SOA by rendering existing IT assets as service components,
thus encouraging reuse and efficiency. It enables integration developers to
assemble complex business solutions -- whether processes, mediations, adapters,
or code components -- in a user-friendly authoring environment.
You can
construct process and integration solutions using drag-and-drop technology
to define, in a visual way, the sequence and flow of business processes. The
supplied visual editors minimize the need to write code. Users have a single
tooling experience when combined with separately purchased tools such as IBM Rational Application
Developer through shell sharing.
- WebSphere ESB
delivers Web services connectivity, JMS messaging, and service-oriented integration
for fast implementation and deployment of an ESB with minimal need for programming.
- WebSphere DataPower® SOA
Appliances are purpose-built, easy-to-deploy network devices that simplify,
help secure, and accelerate XML and Web services deployments and extend core
SOA infrastructure components like WebSphere ESB, WebSphere MQ, WebSphere Message Broker, and WebSphere Process
Server.
- WebSphere Partner
Gateway provides an environment for creating and managing supply chain partners
that are being integrated to the business, as well as providing the support
to send and receive multiple data types over multiple choices of protocol
and transport layers. Whether you need to connect to just one or two key supply
chain partners or whether you need to define a network of potentially thousands
of partners, there are editions of this offering to meet your needs.
- WebSphere Portal
delivers a single point of personalized interaction with applications, content,
processes and people, integrating business processes and portal users via
orchestrated workflow, and therefore helping to build scalable and reliable
portals that can potentially improve employee productivity and increase client
loyalty.
- WebSphere Adapters
help integrate applications, technologies, and partner systems within and
outside the enterprise. This extended range of adapters is integral to a scalable,
secure integration infrastructure for the On Demand Business.
The market-leading IBM application integration software including WebSphere MQ, WebSphere ESB, WebSphere Message
Broker, and WebSphere DataPower SOA
Appliances helps organizations to:
- Quickly and economically address business integration issues
- Become more agile and take rapid advantage of new business opportunities
- Stay flexible
- Maintain client orientation
- Gain competitive position advantage
WebSphere Process
Server is a single, integrated platform with the combined benefits of one
of the industry's top application server and integration capabilities. It
provides business flexibility on a highly scalable, reliable platform. WebSphere Process
Server offers robust process automation, advanced human workflow, business
rules with rich application-to-application and B2B capabilities all on a common,
native SOA platform with full ESB connectivity.
WebSphere Integration
Developer is the first to offer a role-based development experience that targets
specifically the integration developer role on an integrated Eclipse platform.
It can be expanded to other roles, such as business analyst, by adding the WebSphere Business
Modeler product or Java EE developer by adding the IBM Rational Application
Developer product, which is the primary development tooling for Java EE
and portal developers.
The delivery of WebSphere Integration Developer and WebSphere Process
Server-based industry solutions is further strengthened with the help of industry-standards-based
SOA assets to help improve time-to-value, consistency, and reuse. These assets,
packaged under WebSphere Industry
Content Packs, are useful across the life cycle of WebSphere Integration Developer and WebSphere Process
Server solution deployments.
WebSphere ESB
allows organizations to maximize flexibility as an integrated, On Demand Business
by:
- Routing messages between services
- Converting transport protocols between requester and service
- Transforming message formats between requester and service
- Handling business events from disparate sources
- Improving time to value with an integrated, interactive, and visual development
environment that reduces the need to write code
SOA, ESB, and BPM
In an SOA, a connectivity layer, often referred to as an ESB, optimizes
information distribution between service requesters and service providers.
Each enterprise can deploy its own unique ESB, reflecting how far it has advanced
toward becoming an On Demand Business.
Some users may find that simple messaging-based connectivity between well-matched
applications delivers the aspects of integration that they require to implement
an effective ESB. Other users may find that by extending these capabilities
out into their wider deployed infrastructure, they realize value of other
parts of the WebSphere software
portfolio.
As key members of the WebSphere software portfolio, WebSphere ESB, WebSphere Message
Broker, and WebSphere DataPower SOA
Appliances enable your users to begin deploying your ESB today. These programs
help maximize the value of your IT investment by broadening the range of environments
this connectivity layer can reach, such as hardware and operating system platforms,
and beyond more standardized programming models such as Java EE
and .NET.
The proven delivery mechanisms of WebSphere MQ and the JMS messaging
resources delivered by WebSphere Application Server, and available in WebSphere ESB,
extend the reach of the ESB with reliable connectivity throughout the enterprise
for connecting and integrating virtually any type of application or system. WebSphere Application
Server messaging resources provide a best-of-breed JMS implementation for
use with connecting to Java EE-hosted applications.
WebSphere MQ
seamlessly extends those messaging resources to non-Java EE environments to
integrate virtually anything, across more than 80 platform configurations. WebSphere ESB
can make use of both types of messaging environment as required.
WebSphere ESB
delivers an ESB that will connect applications that have standards-based interfaces
in order to power your SOA. WebSphere ESB is used in conjunction with WebSphere Integration
Developer, which is designed with ease of use in mind and, based around an
interactive visual environment. To create a true ESB, WebSphere ESB also supports seamless
integration with the WebSphere software stack, enabling you to move
up the stack to solve more complex business problems, as well as the Web services-based
integration provided by WebSphere ESB.
BPM with SOA allows you to separate 'what you do' from 'how you do it'.
Abstracting the definition of the business processes from how those processes
are executed gives businesses greater responsiveness and flexibility. This
separation allows for changes to the business process without significant
reengineering of the underlying technology and, conversely, allows for changes
to the technology infrastructure with minimal impact on the business process.
WebSphere Message
Broker adds services such as content-based message routing and transformation,
as well as support for a range of message distribution options and protocols
to improve their flexibility and performance. These features allow WebSphere Message
Broker to extend the standardized integration features of an ESB out to encompass
all business systems and applications, making full use of the IT assets of
the business, and even allowing better integration with the applications and
business processes of IBM Business Partners.
WebSphere software
adds integration capabilities that enable you to begin reaping the benefits
of SOAs and begin deploying end-to-end environments that provide the benefits
of an ESB across all of a business infrastructure today.
IBM can
help you to grow project-by-project toward an On Demand Business. WebSphere MQ, WebSphere Application
Server, WebSphere ESB,
and WebSphere Message
Broker play a pivotal role in creating SOAs and will continue to do so as IBM delivers
enhanced capabilities to accelerate the deployment of ESBs that span the entire
IT ecosystem.
WebSphere Process
Server is the flagship WebSphere process integration offering for SOA.
It is the single process integration server to support all styles of integration
based on SOA. WebSphere Process
Server allows developers to create composite applications in an SOA environment.
It is the single process server for all your process choreography needs.
WebSphere Process
Server is the run-time engine for the IBM BPM portfolio. The IBM BPM suite
enables you to model, assemble, deploy, and monitor end-to-end business workflows. WebSphere Process
Server enables the life cycle of a business process with integration with WebSphere Business
Modeler and WebSphere Business
Monitor.
You can import, design, and analyze business processes using WebSphere Business
Modeler. With WebSphere Process
Server, you can then execute business processes in an SOA environment. Through WebSphere Business
Monitor, you can get real-time visibility into business process performance.
WebSphere Process
Server also enables:
- Interoperability with the WebSphere portfolio. WebSphere software
offers a compelling set of capabilities for people, information, and application
integration. WebSphere Process
Server seamlessly integrates with these capabilities.
- Interoperability with non-IBM products. WebSphere Process Server allows you
to interoperate with non-WebSphere applications using open-standards and a
rich set of adapters.
- Integrating your IBM Business Partner community using industry protocols
with WebSphere Partner
Gateway.

Common Criteria evaluation
WebSphere Process
Server and WebSphere ESB
rely on security functionality from the WebSphere Application Server V7.0
runtime environment, and there has been no direct security functionality added
to these products. Therefore, a Common Criteria evaluation is not necessary
because these products rely on the underlying runtime environment for security
function and are neither Information Assurance (IA) nor IA-enabled.
FIPS 140-2
The cryptographic functionality of WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere ESB
is managed by the WebSphere Application Server V7.0 runtime environment.
Extended entitlement
Extended entitlement (refer to Software announcement 205-206, dated September 6, 2005), as well as migration
tooling support from WebSphere Business Integration heritage stack products,
will continue for WebSphere Process Server V7.0 stack products. For
information on extended entitlement activation, eligible products, and their
equivalent entitled products, and general information about extended entitlement,
visit the Extended Entitlement section at
- http://www.ibm.com/software/integration/wps/library/entitlement.html
Customers should contact their IBM sales representatives for questions
and additional assistance.
IBM plans
to protect client investments and does not expect current clients to migrate
immediately from currently entitled products to WebSphere Process Server. In order
to facilitate the extended migration periods that some clients may require, IBM is
offering extended entitlement. Clients with active subscription to eligible
products can activate extended entitlement to WebSphere Process Server. For information
on extended entitlement activation, eligible products and their equivalent
extended entitlement products, and general information about extended entitlement,
visit the Entitlement section at
- http://www.ibm.com/software/integration/wps/library
Clients should contact their IBM sales representatives for questions
and additional assistance.
WebSphere Adapters
WebSphere Adapters
are packaged, ordered, and provided with the WebSphere Process Server, WebSphere ESB,
and WebSphere Integration
Developer products.
WebSphere Adapters
V7.0 are licensed with each IBM application program that packages the adapter components.
The terms of these programs complement and if necessary override the license
terms of WebSphere Adapters.
Refer to the respective application product unique terms (for example, WebSphere Integration
Developer V7.0) to determine whether a separate license authorization is required
to deploy and run each WebSphere Adapter.
When deploying WebSphere Adapter components for SAP, Siebel, PeopleSoft,
JD Edwards, or Oracle E-Business Suite to WebSphere Process Server or WebSphere ESB,
you must purchase a separate license entitlement for the appropriate WebSphere Adapter
for all usages except unit testing under WebSphere Integration Developer. Refer
to the Ordering information section for the license
part numbers.
Charge metrics definitions for WebSphere Adapters
- Per establishment. If you have acquired an establishment authorization,
you are permitted to deploy an unlimited number of copies of the licensed
program only on servers that are located at a single site and at locations
within 50 kilometers (31 miles) of that site.
- Per application instance. If you have acquired a per-application-instance
authorization, you are permitted to deploy and run an unlimited number of
copies of the licensed program on a single instance of a software deployment
server supported by the program.
Media Extender for WebSphere Process Server
The same charge metric definitions apply as for WebSphere Adapters (refer to earlier
text).

Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is a unit of measure by which these distributed software products can
be licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor technology (defined within
the PVU table1 by processor vendor, brand, type and model number). IBM continues
to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor
core on a chip. Each software product has a unique price per PVU. To determine
the total cost of deploying an individual software product in a specific hardware
environment, you must take the following steps:
- For each processor core in the hardware environment on which the software
product is to be licensed, determine the PVU requirement based on its processor
technology per the PVU table.1
- The PVU requirements for all processor cores in the hardware environment.
- Multiply the software product's price per PVU by the total number of
PVUs required as determined in step 2 above.
PVU entitlements are specific to a software product and may not be exchanged,
interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another software product.
Unless you have deployed eligible sub-capacity products according to the
sub-capacity1 terms, you must obtain PVU Proof of Entitlements
(PoEs) for the maximum number of activated2 physical processor
cores in the hardware environment made available to, or managed by, the software
product. This is also referred to as full capacity licensing.
- 1
- For information regarding PVU and sub-capacity licensing, including the
latest PVU table, visit
- http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/ pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
- 2
- Activated processor cores are physical processor cores that are available
for use in a server. They include processor cores:
- That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the
manufacturer
- That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from
the server manufacturer by the customer
- Whose capacity can be limited by the customer through virtualization technologies,
operating system commands and BIOS settings
The z/OS programs
in this announcement have Value Unit-based pricing.

For each System
z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program
needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required
license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following
factors:
- The System
z IPLA program you select
- The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
- The applicable terms
- Whether your current mainframes are full-capacity or sub-capacity

Ordering example
The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following
example.
If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected System z IPLA
product, the applicable Value Units would be:
Translation from MSUs to Value Units
MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00
Total 1,500 343.50
When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded
up to the next integer.

for z/OS
For each System
z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program
needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required
license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following
factors:
- The System
z IPLA program you select
- The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
- The applicable terms
- Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity
For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the System z IPLA
program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

5655-W09 WebSphere ESB for Execution-based
z/OS V7.0
Full-capacity mainframes
In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.
Execution-based, z/OS-based, full-machine-based: The required capacity
of a System
z IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the
machines where the System z IPLA program executes.
For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, visit
- http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/
Reference-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA
program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly
license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.
Sub-capacity mainframes
In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.
Execution-based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA sub-capacity program
with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the System z IPLA
program executes.
IBM Getting
Started Sub-capacity Pricing for z/OS IPLA Software applies.
z/OS-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms
equals the license capacity of z/OS (and z/OS.e) on the machines where the System z IPLA
program executes.
Reference-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms
equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC)
program. This MLC program is called the parent program.
Full-machine-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA
program with full-machine-based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the
machines where the System z IPLA program executes.
For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, refer to The IBM System
z Machines Exhibit, (Z125-3901), or visit the Mainframes section of the System
z Exhibits Web site
- http://ibm.com/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/
For more information on sub-capacity System z IPLA terms and conditions,
refer to Software Announcement 204-184, dated August 10, 2004.
For additional information for products with reference-based terms, System
z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to
the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment
the System
z IPLA program executes.
An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or
a qualified Parallel
Sysplex®. You may have one or more different environments across the
enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each System z IPLA
program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.
When a System
z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel
Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the System z IPLA
program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across
the Parallel
Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:
- That meets the criteria defined in Hardware Announcement 198-001, dated January 13, 1998
- Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the sysplex
Sub-capacity eligibility
To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select System z IPLA programs, you must first
implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License
Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement
sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be System z (or equivalent). On that
machine:
- All instances of the OS/390® operating system must be migrated to the z/OS (or z/OS.e)
operating systems
- Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
- All instances of the z/OS operating (or z/OS.e) systems must be running inz/Architecture® (64-bit)
mode
For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each
month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting
Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit
the System z Software Pricing Web site
- http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice
You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever
is applicable:
- The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer
Agreement - Attachment for System z Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
- The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in
the IBM Customer
Agreement - Attachment for IBM eServer System z 890 and 800 License Charges
(Z125-6587).
Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified
in the amendment to the IPLA contract - Amendment for IBM System z9® and eServer zSeries® Programs
Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929). Once the amendment is signed, the terms
in the amendment replace any and all previous System z IPLA sub-capacity terms and
conditions.
IBM Getting
Started Sub-capacity Pricing for z/OS IPLA Software applies.
Sub-capacity utilization determination for host products
Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the product's own execution
as reported to IBM in
accordance with the requirements for reporting sub-capacity utilization for
products.
On/Off Capacity on Demand (CoD) for host products
To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, you must be enabled for temporary
capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract, Attachment
for Customer Initiated Upgrade and IBM eServer On/Off Capacity on Demand - Software
(Z125-6611) must be signed prior to use.
IBM has
transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help
you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled
solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the
service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed
to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem
resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate,
but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic
Services Agent.
The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that
replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services
and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources
for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic
Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server.
It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic,
client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically
reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to
deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and
performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent
is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer
your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic
Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service
for your IBM server.
