IBM® InfoSphere FastTrack V8.1.1 is a core module in the IBM InfoSphere Information Server integration platform that:

  • Accelerates translation of business requirements into data integration projects.
  • Promotes cross-team collaboration, increases automation, and helps ensure that projects are completed successfully and on time.
  • Simplifies communication between the business analyst and the developer. The job of the business analyst is to translate business requirements into technical specifications; the job of the developer is to implement these requirements and produce an integrated data application.
  • Breaks down traditional barriers to coordination across multiple user roles and products and puts the emphasis, where needed, on solving business problems.

IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture V6.3 for Linux® on System z® is now available for purchase as a part of the IBM InfoSphere Information Server:

  • High performance: InfoSphere Change Data Capture can scale to high-volume replication environments with minimal impact on the performance of source databases. Using native log-based change data capture, it can handle increasing volumes of data to provide data integration at the pace of business.
  • Log-based Change Data Capture: Whether data is integrated periodically or in near real-time, only changed data is captured and transferred from source- to-target systems. Instead of performing queries directly against the database, InfoSphere Change Data Capture captures changed data directly from the database logs, which is a very low-impact, noninvasive approach.
  • Change Data Capture can help improve operational efficiencies and can help save time and resources by eliminating redundant data transfer and saving network bandwidth. By accessing data from the database logs, InfoSphere Change Data Capture is designed to minimize performance impact on mission-critical applications.
  • Data integrity: Delivery of data is achieved by synchronizing positional information between the source and target. Transactional integrity is achieved by applying transactions in the same order on the target as on the source.
  • Ease of use: An intuitive user interface that consolidates configuration and monitoring of the replication environment can help lower total cost of ownership. With no programming required, you can invest your effort in higher-value IT projects. Your company can leverage its legacy systems and integrate data across all supported platforms with minimal changes to the existing environment. Future changes in the computing environment can also be easily accommodated to protect your company's investment.
  • Support for data delivery to message queues to provide data-enriched business events to business applications.
  • Support for flat file integration to improve your ability to integrate data across systems.

IBM InfoSphere FastTrack

IBM InfoSphere FastTrack accelerates the deployment of data integration projects by focusing on what historically has been a manual translation of business requirements into technical implementation. For an enterprise integration project to meet business requirements and be completed on schedule and within the defined budget constraints, business analysts, data modelers, and developers must collaborate more effectively.

Valuable development time is often spent not on programming or designing solutions but on managing and translating differences in languages, skills, working methods, and synchronizing tool output. In a typical project workflow, the data modeler begins with either the IBM Industry Models or an internally defined source and target. These structures are then sent to the business analyst who manually defines the required source-to-target mappings, based on their understanding of the data structures as a result of profiling with InfoSphere Information Analyzer. These mappings are often stored in a Microsoft® Excel spreadsheet, which is then printed and sent to the developer to manually convert into an extract, transform, and load (ETL) job. The lack of automation and audit trails in these labor-intensive processes slows the project, increases the potential for errors, and minimizes the possibility of reuse by other staff members on subsequent new projects.

Using IBM InfoSphere FastTrack V8.1.1, business analysts can:

  • Specify business transformation rules, including joins, lookups, data filters, and function logic.
  • Use Shared Container support to help insert common standardized business logic into an InfoSphere DataStage™ job. This promotes best practices in data integration projects.
  • Have the ability to use new common connectors that are available in FastTrack.
  • Leverage the results of profiling with InfoSphere Information Analyzer to help ensure the most complete requirements are captured up-front prior to beginning development.
  • Perform match discovery to aid in the automation of data mappings.
  • Create InfoSphere Business Glossary terms and define the linkage to physical column structures.
  • Apply naming standards for generated data definition language.
  • Generate framework InfoSphere DataStage jobs with in-line instruction-specific annotations.
  • Optionally, import existing Microsoft Excel spreadsheets into FastTrack to be converted into InfoSphere DataStage jobs.
  • Store all information in a single, central repository. This allows the business specification to serve as an audit trail on design decisions made during the development process. It also promotes reuse by multiple development teams using the Information Server platform.

For enterprises of all sizes, IBM InfoSphere FastTrack helps speed time to value for strategic initiatives by enabling the translation of business requirements into completed data integration projects that may solve complex business problems.

IBM InfoSphere FastTrack

The key to optimizing development effort is the approach used to accelerate and automate the translation of business requirements into finished data integration applications. All generated metadata is stored centrally in the IBM InfoSphere Metadata Server for leverage across the entire Information Server integration platform. IBM InfoSphere FastTrack is designed to help minimize manual effort during design cycles while achieving maximum impact on downstream development activities.

Key features

  • Ability to capture advanced business rule logic. Business analysts have the option to use Microsoft Excel or the IBM InfoSphere FastTrack interface. The ability to document business-specific rules, calculations, joins, lookups, filtering criteria, and other business transformation logic directly in IBM InfoSphere FastTrack facilitates historical tracking and reuse. Analysts can leverage published profiling results from InfoSphere Information Analyzer during this process to ensure mapping rules are complete.

Benefit: Helps improve project success rates of strategic initiatives by ensuring that business requirements are consistently captured and fully incorporated into technical solutions.

  • Shared Container support. Helps insert common standardized business logic into an InfoSphere DataStage job. Allows creation of efficient, reusable ETL jobs.

Benefit: Promotes best practices in data integration projects.

  • Connectivity support. Ability to use new common connectors that are available in FastTrack.

Benefit: Provides expanded connectivity options to FastTrack.

  • Automated InfoSphere DataStage job generation. InfoSphere FastTrack automates parallel ETL job generation with the option to combine multiple specifications into a single job in support of large development projects. Specific business rule annotations appear within the context of the generated job so no requirements are overlooked.

Benefit: Speeds time-to-value for business projects by automating the supporting data integration processes.

  • Customizable spreadsheet view. Enables you to annotate column mappings with business rules and transformation logic and view detailed asset properties, including an expandable view of business terms and physical metadata descriptions.

Benefit: Promotes ease of use with incorporation of business requirements.

  • Ability to import data from Excel spreadsheets and .csv formats. Allows you to import data from existing spreadsheets to start new specifications. It also enables data to be exported into .csv formats.

Benefit: Support for common exchange mechanisms helps align with corporate standards and policies.

  • Flexible reporting capabilities. Enables you to view column-level mappings, table-level mappings, and lookups, as well as manage and track metadata across the integration design life cycle. Common Web-based templates allow the creation of mapping specification reports for communication with development and management teams.

Benefit: Strengthened governance programs via common reporting can help support auditing requirements from start to finish.

  • Table-level mappings. Enables you to define new joins, filters, and case statements, while also leveraging existing table joins identified during profiling with IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer.

Benefit: Increases collaboration among business analysts, developers, and data architects by eliminating manual effort and the risk of misinterpretation, providing the ability to clearly define what is needed for each role.

  • Lookup support. Allows you to define lookups that generate the "lookup stage" in the generated integration job. These lookups are searchable and are designed for reuse.

Benefit: Streamlines communication by eliminating the rewriting of documentation and interpreting others' requirements.

  • Generate Data Definition Language (DDL). Allows data modelers and developers to generate a target data model, if one does not currently exist, either manually or from business terms. It includes the ability to apply naming standards (for example, customer account mapped to a CUST_ACCT column).

Benefit: Increases productivity of developers by automatically translating business logic into physical structures.

  • Create and link business glossary terms to assets. Business analysts can create new business terms and document their relationship to corresponding physical columns as a part of the mapping process. This information is stored centrally in a single location, so other development teams utilizing the Information Server platform, have a complete business view.

Benefit: Improved data governance and auditing capabilities by providing a centralized, managed location for business terminology, project specifications, and requirements.

IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture

InfoSphere Change Data Capture helps businesses overcome the challenge of providing timely information by capturing and transmitting only operational data that has changed, providing substantial business value while helping to reduce risk. This approach delivers significant cost and speed optimizations over traditional ETL processes alone. InfoSphere Change Data Capture provides fast delivery of changed operational data from a broad range of databases and platforms to support heterogeneous environments as well as to leverage existing IT investments. With InfoSphere Change Data Capture, organizations can help ensure that critical business information is available whenever and wherever it is needed without impacting the performance of mission-critical business systems.

For detailed information regarding the specific functions of IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture, refer to Software Announcement 208-456, dated December 16, 2008.

IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations

IPLA licenses may be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor families (vendors and brands). A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on the level or tier of all processor cores activated and available for use by the program on the server. Some programs allow licensing to less than the full capacity of the server's activated processor cores, sometimes referred to as sub-capacity licensing. For programs which offer sub-capacity licensing, if a server is partitioned utilizing eligible partitioning technologies, then a PoE must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on all activated processor cores available for use in each partition where the program runs or is managed by the program. Refer to the International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Terms or the program's License Information to determine applicable sub-capacity terms. The PVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another program.

For general overview of PVUs for processor families (vendors and brands), go to

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/ pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

To calculate the exact PVU entitlements required for the program, go to

https://www-112.ibm.com/software/howtobuy/passportadvantage/ valueunitcalculator/vucalc.wss

Authorized User

Authorized User is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. An Authorized User is an individual (named or unnamed) within or outside of your enterprise. The program may be installed on one or more computers or servers and accessed by the number of users authorized by the Proof of Entitlement (PoE). You must have an entitlement for each Authorized User accessing the program or any program component in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
