Overview
Bottom rule

IBM Records Manager for z/OS V8.5 is a records management engine and infrastructure tool used to e-records-enable business applications running in the IBM z/OS environment. It provides a single, consistent platform for policy-based records management with extensive capabilities for both electronic and physical information assets. Unlike Records Manager V8.5 on other platforms, this z/OS release does not provide integration with IBM Content Manager through the IBM Content Manager Records Enabler.

Integration with IBM Content Manager for z/OS requires a connector be developed by a customer, IBM Professional Services, or an IBM Business Partner. IBM Records Manager for z/OS V8.5 can also be integrated with other applications on z/OS to provide records management capabilities using a connector developed by a customer, IBM Professional Services, or an IBM Business Partner.

IBM Records Manager for z/OS V8.5 is designed to run in a mainframe environment. It provides additional performance and scalability capabilities above those already provided in the distributed, multiplatform IBM Records Manager V8.5 released on April 24, 2009.

Features:

  • IBM Records Manager 8.5 for z/OS is based on IBM Records Manager V8.5 for Multi-Platform software code that was certified against the DoD 5015.02 Version 3 in March of 2009. For details visit
    http://jitc.fhu.disa.mil/recmgt/register.html
  • IBM Records Manager V8.5 for z/OS supports the major new changes to DoD v3 including:
    • XML schema mapping for records transfers and improved management of classified records
    • Performance and scalability improvements for declare, search, holds, and disposition
    • Compatibility with DB2® for z/OS V8.1, WebSphere® Application Server for z/OS V6.1, and Internet Explorer 7

For a complete description of IBM Records Manager V8.5, refer to Software Announcement 209-076, dated April 07, 2009.

Description
Bottom rule

IBM Records Manager for z/OS V8.5 facilitates efforts to support customers' efforts to address compliance with government and industry requirements and standards for enterprise records management, preserving existing Enterprise Content Management investments by being nonintrusive for users and facilitating records-related elements of business processes.

IBM Records Manager for z/OS V8.5:

  • Record enables content and documents using a central repository for records across the enterprise in a z/OS environment.
  • Unlike Records Manager V8.5 on other platforms, this release does not provide integration with IBM Content Manager through the Records Enabler. Integration with IBM Content Manager for z/OS requires a connector be developed by a customer, IBM Professional Services, or an IBM Business Partner.

IBM Records Manager for z/OS V8.5 continues to enhance the Z/OS platform to apply formal records management controls across the enterprise. The new enhancements include installation and performance improvements, as well as new functionality to address the requirements of U.S. Standard DoD standard 5015.02 version 3.

Federal Desktop Core Configuration compliance (FDCC)

  • IBM Records Manager V8.5 has a Web-based administration client, which can be accessed from Internet Explorer on Windows® XP or Vista systems that are compliant with FDCC requirements.

IBM Records Manager for Messaging has been withdrawn from marketing. The tradeup part number from IBM Records Manager for Messaging to IBM Records Manager V8.5 is included in this announcement and should be ordered through Passport Advantage®.

Refer to Withdrawal Announcement 909-182, dated September 08, 2009, for more information.

VU Value Unit

VU Value Unit is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. VU Value Unit entitlements are based on the quantity of a specific designated measurement, either users or resources, for the given program. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of VU Value Units required for your environment as defined by the specific program terms. The VU Value Unit entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with VU Value Unit entitlements of another program. To understand these benefits of VU Value Unit licensing, and to determine how many VU Value Units to obtain for the program, contact your IBM representative.

The programs in this announcement all have Value Unit-Based pricing.

For each System z® IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The System z IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®).

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery, where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery of ServerPac may help improve automation and software delivery time. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

http://www.software.ibm.com/ShopzSeries

Media type for this software product is chosen during the Customized Offerings ordering process. Based on your customer environment, it is recommended that the highest possible density tape media is selected. Currently offered media types are:

  • CBPDOs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • ServerPacs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • SystemPacs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*

*3592 is highest density media. Selecting 3592 will ship the fewest number of media.

Once a product becomes generally available, it will be included in the next ServerPac and SystemPac monthly update.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after inclusion in ServerPac.
  • SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after inclusion in SystemPac due to additional customization, and data input verification.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
