InfoSphere Federation Server V9.7
InfoSphere Federation Server V9.7 delivers trusted information to help
support efforts to reduce business costs and address risks by:
- Augmenting historical information from a data warehouse with operational
real-time data from production systems. This can help provide a more integrated
and accurate view into the enterprise, thereby increasing business visibility.
- Federating data from disparate source systems and lines of business into
a single consolidated view that can provide trusted, unified information and
help reduce the cost of maintaining and creating additional physical data
stores.
- Enabling the rapid creation of views to business entities that can be
easily queried for business information to provide quicker, actionable insight
into the business.
InfoSphere Federation Server V9.7 also transparently interfaces with common
analytical and reporting tools, development environments, portals, and other
standard IT infrastructure components, making it extensible for custom or
changing business requirements while allowing you to leverage your existing
IT investment.
InfoSphere Federation Server V9.7 includes the following main features:
- Expanded connectivity options: InfoSphere Federation Server V9.7 now supports
JDBC connections that allow access to a wider range of data sources, some
of which only support the JDBC standard.
- Enhanced request handling for multiple data sources: InfoSphere Federation
Server's highly distributed database engine can already handle concurrent
requests from multiple data sources. It has been enhanced to support distributed
interrupt requests in a transparent and scalable manner, which can help improve
performance.
- Wider scope of optimized data type support: InfoSphere Federation Server
V9.7 now includes support for Teradata LOBs, DECFLOAT, implicit casting, Oracle
VARCHAR2, updated WebSphere MQ and XML user-defined fields and stored
procedures, and parameterized TIMESTAMP.
- Improved federation procedures for Oracle sources: Multiple result sets
can now be retrieved from Oracle remote procedures, increasing the transparency
of federation procedures as the results are the same as if it were executed
directly on the Oracle data source.
- Usability enhancements: The federation process is simplified in the Version
9.7 release through the automation of table functions that map to result sets
of federated stored procedures.
InfoSphere Replication Server V9.7
Replication high availability and active/active scenarios have been improved:
- Application availability is improved through an enhancement to the initialization
protocol for bidirectional and peer-to-peer subscriptions. Application activity
is allowed on replicated tables during the initialization of subscriptions.
- Disaster recovery procedures can be enhanced using the additional runtime
data available in replication control tables. This information is highly accessible
through standard SQL.
Support of DB2 for Linux, UNIX,
and Windows has
been enhanced:
- Tables partitioned by range can now be sources for replication and event
publishing. Version 9.7 Q Capture can capture from partitioned tables in DB2 V9.1,
or later, databases.
- Compressed tables can now be sources for replication and event publishing.
Data can be captured from DB2 V9.7 databases and replicated to any Q Replication
target.
- Replication of the DB2 Load operation is now allowed.
- The Replication Center and ASNCLP administration tools can create the
latest Q Replication control tables in DB2 V9.1 and V9.5 databases, thereby allowing
you to run the latest Q Replication function without having to migrate your DB2 database.
- Q Apply now allows expressions on XML columns.
- New and enhanced DB2 data types can now be replicated; for example, Timestamp
can be replicated with a precision other than 6.
Usability improvements include:
- The Replication Center and ASNCLP can now create subscriptions for a large
number of tables faster than in previous releases.
- The configuration of WebSphere MQ has been made easier by the integration
of Q Replication's MQ Script Generators into the Replication Center.
Additional enhancements include:
- For applications that do not need to maximize recovery time in high or
continuous availability situations, Replication Server and Data Event Publisher
now allow Q Capture to publish nonpersistent MQ messages.
- Q Apply can be directed to ignore specific queued transactions.
- The table differencing utility can give you much greater control over
what you compare by letting you specify two queries whose result sets will
be compared instead of requiring you to compare the full source and target
in a subscription.
- Support for 64-bit WebSphere MQ is provided on 64-bit Windows.
- Updates to Q Capture for Oracle databases.
InfoSphere Replication Server V9.7 provides replication for low-latency,
high-throughput replication with managed conflict detection and resolution
to support business continuity, workload distribution, high availability,
and active/active requirements.
- Committed changes are published to WebSphere MQ message queues. A sophisticated
apply engine determines transaction dependencies and replays transactions
on target systems to maximize parallelism of apply and minimize latency.
- Conflict detection and resolution algorithms allow backup systems to do
productive work so application workload can be distributed across multiple
servers.
- Data can be filtered so only the data of interest is replicated.
- Automatic and high-performance load options are integrated. Because the
work is "parallelized," target data can be loaded at the same time changed
data is being replicated.
- Extensive statistical data is made available for all replication activity.
This helps meet the needs of monitoring and service level agreements and is
highly accessible through SQL.
- Utilities are able to compare whole or partial source and target table
contents, providing a list of differences that can be used to make modifications
to either table.
InfoSphere Data Event Publisher V9.7
InfoSphere Data Event Publisher V9.7 facilitates business integration by
linking changed-data events with business processes. Changed-data events are
captured and published as WebSphere MQ messages that can be used by other
applications and tools to drive subsequent processing. Changed data can be
encoded as an XML document or in delimited format such as comma-separated
values.
InfoSphere Data Event Publisher V9.7 delivers efficient changed-data solutions
for the following types of business scenarios:
- Application-to-application: Changes to operational customer data can be
pushed to a customer relationship management (CRM) application.
- Business process initiation: Adding a customer record can initiate a new
workflow that might include a welcome e-mail, credit verification, and an
update to the CRM system.
- Critical data event monitoring: Changed-data event monitoring allows events
such as low inventory levels to be used to initiate related processes such
as product restocking.
- Data population: Data changes in operational systems can be fed to extract,
transform, and load (ETL) products that then populate a data warehouse, datamart,
or operational data store.
Q Replication Dashboard
The Q Replication Dashboard is a browser-based health and performance monitor
that can be downloaded and used with InfoSphere Replication Server V9.7, InfoSphere
Data Event Publisher V9.7, and with the older releases of the two products.
This tool provides an easy, at-a-glance understanding of replication activity
as well as of the health of the replication programs.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. PVU entitlements
are based on processor families (vendors and brands). A Proof of Entitlement
(PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on the level
or tier of all processor cores activated and available for use by the program
on the server. Some programs allow licensing to less than the full capacity
of the server's activated processor cores, sometimes referred to as sub-capacity
licensing. For programs which offer sub-capacity licensing, if a server
is partitioned utilizing eligible partitioning technologies, then a PoE must
be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on all activated processor
cores available for use in each partition where the program runs or is managed
by the program. Refer to the International Passport Advantage Agreement
Attachment for Sub-Capacity Terms or the program's License Information to
determine applicable sub-capacity terms. The PVU entitlements are specific
to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with
PVU entitlements of another program.
For general overview of PVUs for processor families (vendors and brands),
go to
- http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/ pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
To calculate the exact PVU entitlements required for the program, go to

Authorized User
Authorized User is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed.
An Authorized User is an individual (named or unnamed) within or outside
of your enterprise. The program may be installed on one or more computers
or servers and accessed by the number of users authorized by the Proof of
Entitlement (PoE). You must have an entitlement for each Authorized User accessing
the program or any program component in any manner directly or indirectly
(for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through
any means.

Licensing
InfoSphere Federation Server is licensed as a multi-product package and

You will have the opportunity to convert your use entitlements, over time,
from the current portfolio and licensing configuration to the new licensing
structure. The table below shows a high-level mapping from the previous product
structure to the structure included in this announcement. If there is an applicable
trade-up charge -- an incremental license fee for moving from one product
to another -- that will be indicated in the table.
In some instances, features that were previously separately priced may
be embedded in a new offering. Conversions will be designed to give you comparable
capacity under the new licensing model as compared with the previous model.
