Overview
Bottom rule

Businesses face a tidal wave of information and data that seems to increase daily. The ability to successfully manage information and data has become an imperative. The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 family of products (referred to as Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1) helps businesses successfully gain better control and efficiently manage the "information tidal wave" with significant enhancements in multiple facets of data protection.

From its inception, Tivoli Storage Manager has been a highly scalable and available data protection solution. Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 takes data protection scalability to the next level with a new relational database, based on IBM DB2® technology, designed to store many more objects and manage more data. Greater availability is delivered through enhancements such as online, automated database reorganization. In addition, the increased scalability and the ability to leverage the latest in server technology helps deliver increased performance of backup and recovery processes.

With the relentless growth of data, it is more important than ever to have visibility and control of the data to help ensure that it is accurately protected and easily recoverable. Addressing these needs, Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 delivers new near real-time monitoring and operational reporting capabilities.

One way to successfully gain better control and efficiently manage the information tidal wave is to slow it down by decreasing the rate of storage capacity required to contain the data growth. Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 helps achieve this with a new built-in data deduplication feature that helps eliminate redundant data. This can enable significantly more backup data to be stored on disk.

Successfully controlling and managing the information tidal wave alone is not enough. Many other issues exist. One of these issues is the ability to do business around the clock and anywhere in the world. For enterprise IT departments, this can translate to increasingly stringent recovery point objectives and recovery time objectives, and drive the need for more effective business continuity, planning, and execution. Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 helps address these challenges with several new features and enhancements, including:

  • Individual mailbox and item level recovery for Microsoft® Exchange users
  • Up to two times throughput improvement for a single Tivoli Storage Manager server for operations, such as backing up small files from multiple clients
  • Enhancements designed to improve performance for IBM System Storage™ N series and NetApp Network Attached Storage (NAS)
  • Disaster recovery preparedness enhanced for VMware, IBM System Storage N series, NetApp NAS environments, and Microsoft Windows® Active Directory environments

Description
Bottom rule

The information tidal wave consists largely of unstructured content such as documents, images, and video. According to IDC, 161 exabytes of digital content was created, captured, or replicated in 2006 and the number is expected to multiply by six times to 988 exabytes by 2010. In addition, according to IDC estimates, only 25% of the world's digital information is original. The remaining 75% is replicated or duplicated data.

The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 family of products helps businesses successfully gain better control and efficiently manage the information tidal wave with significant enhancements in facets of data protection, including backup and recovery, archive and retrieve, space management, disaster recovery planning, and centralized management of distributed data, as well as enhancements to management and administration.

Next generation unified recovery management scalability, availability, performance, and administration

Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 delivers improved scalability through more concurrent operations, the ability to store more objects and manage more data, and a larger maximum database size. This helps reduce and potentially eliminate the need for additional servers due to size or operational constraints.

Additional key benefits:

  • An approximate doubling of the maximum supported size of the Tivoli Storage Manager database, potentially enabling management of twice as many objects with one Tivoli Storage Manager server as compared to previous versions. Even with this increased maximum size of the Tivoli Storage Manager database, other operational considerations such as expiration, backup windows for clients, database backup, or other server operations may limit how large the server should be in a given customer environment.
  • A nine times increase in the maximum size of the recovery log, potentially increasing the capacity to handle concurrent operations.
  • The ability to scale across multiprocessor systems is enhanced.
  • Availability is improved through online, automated reorganization of the object database and real-time database integrity validation. This virtually eliminates the need to take the Tivoli Storage Manager server "offline" for repair actions.
  • No specialized database administration skills are required. Database administration is accomplished through the Tivoli Storage Manager user interface (UI) and through the exploitation of autonomic computing concepts such as a self-tuning database buffer pool and automatic management of database and recovery log storage.

Increased visibility into, and control of, the data protection environment

Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 delivers dramatically improved features for out-of-the-box operational monitoring and historical reporting. A new customizable end-user "dashboard" delivers graphical representation and monitoring of trends and current status. This capability scales to help manage many Tivoli Storage Manager servers while it is still lightweight enough to be used for only one server. Storage administrators can generate reports in multiple formats such as HTML, Adobe® portable document format (PDF), and comma-separated values (CSV). In addition, since it is based on open source Eclipse Business Intelligence Reporting Tools (BIRT), administrators can define their own customized reports. Operational monitoring and historical reporting are available in Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 and Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition V6.1 at no additional cost. Built on Tivoli Common Reporting, Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 can integrate with other IBM Tivoli products to deliver a consolidated view into not only the data protection environment but the broader IT environment.

Tivoli Storage Manager Administration Center enhancements:

  • A new lighter weight version of Integrated Solutions Console (ISC) infrastructure is incorporated into Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1, significantly reducing the overall footprint of the Administration Center. For example, the disk footprint has been reduced by thirty percent from previous versions.
  • Faster installation allows a typical installation to be done in approximately half the time required by previous versions.
  • Performance is addressed by requiring less time for initial page loads and page switches. Processing of large queries is enhanced and overall response time may be improved.
  • The ability to display the backup sets, client nodes, and client node groups can now be done from one portlet. You can view all of the client nodes, view them by server, or search for a node from the three available client node tabs.
  • The configuration of server actions is consolidated in a single central location, the new Manage Server table.

Enhanced data reduction capabilities, enabling significantly more original data to be stored on disk through built-in data deduplication

Tivoli Storage Manager currently provides significant data reduction through progressive incremental backup, client compression, and subfile backup. In addition, data reduction can be achieved through use of storage devices that can support compression and data deduplication. Data deduplication is defined as the elimination of redundant files and subfiles. These subfiles may also be referred to as chunks, blocks, or extents. Only one instance is stored for each common chunk. Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 extends its current data-reduction capabilities by adding a new, built-in data deduplication capability in Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition V6.1 for sequential-access disk (FILE) storage pools. The additional data reduction achieved by Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition V6.1 data deduplication will depend on factors which determine the degree of data redundancy, including the type of data, change rate, and the number of clients.

Key benefits of Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition V6.1 data deduplication:

  • Requires no updates to client-side software or API applications because it is implemented on the Tivoli Storage Manager server
  • Requires no dependency on specific hardware because it is an integrated component of Tivoli Storage Manager
  • Helps minimize impact to backup windows through post-ingestion (out-of-band) deduplication processing on the Tivoli Storage Manager server
  • Applies to all types of stored data, including hierarchical storage management (HSM), Tivoli Storage Manager data protection applications, and Tivoli Storage Manager API applications
  • Supports deduplication of data previously stored on the Tivoli Storage Manager server (legacy data)
  • Helps reduce redundancy for:
    • Identical objects from same or different client nodes (even if names are different)
    • Common data chunks (subfiles, extents) in objects from the same or different nodes
  • Delivers transparent client access to deduplicated objects

Enhancements to help you achieve increasingly demanding recovery point objectives, recovery time objective, and business continuity requirements

Enhancements:

  • More granular support for Microsoft Windows Exchange Mail Servers
    • Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail V6.1 now supports the restoration of a user's mailbox or items from within a mailbox that may have been accidentally deleted and restoration of the mailbox as it existed at a previous point in time. Examples of what can be recovered are an entire inbox, deleted items, e-mail drafts, journal, calendar, notes, tasks, and user folders.
    • Search filters are provided for ease of locating individual items based on sender name, subject text, attachment name, folder name, message delivery date, and time or text strings within the message body.
    • Support for Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007.
    • Leverage of the Microsoft Exchange Recovery Storage Group and Microsoft standard programming interfaces.
  • More granular support for Microsoft Windows Active Directory environments with the following key functions:
    • Support for individual object recovery from System State backups of user and group objects for Windows Server 2008 Active Directory environments. An example is the restoration of an individual or group that may have been deleted from the Active Directory.
    • Support for un-deletion (reanimation) of objects from the Active Directory's tombstone to assist in manual recovery of individual objects for Windows 2003 and Windows Server 2008 environments.
    • Recovery and reanimation is accomplished without having to shut down or restart the Active Directory server.
    • Full integration into the existing Tivoli Storage Manager Backup-Archive Client restore tree view.
    • Leverage of Microsoft standard programming interfaces.

In addition, no changes are required to the backup approach used for Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory.

  • A potential 100% throughput improvement (per Tivoli Storage Manager server) in file system incremental backup performance from multiple clients can dramatically shorten the backup window. This increased throughput allows you to either shorten your backup windows or increase the workload managed within the current backup window. These throughput improvements are available on Microsoft Windows and AIX® platforms only.
  • Enhancements designed to improve performance with IBM System Storage N series and NetApp Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices that deliver:
    • Deeper integration with IBM N series and NetApp. The speed at which Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 can back up these very large NAS devices is improved, while still providing file level recovery. To achieve this, Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 leverages a NetApp Snapshot differencing interface for IBM N series and NetApp NAS file systems to help identify new, changed, and deleted files, eliminating the need for Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 to scan the NAS file system prior to an incremental backup.
    • Potential improved speed at which a full image of the IBM N series and NetApp file systems can be backed up, helping provide better business continuity and disaster recovery protection. This is accomplished through integration with the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) and the NetApp SnapMirror to Tape function to move a disaster recovery image copied from the NAS device to storage managed by Tivoli Storage Manager. The SnapMirror to Tape function is not intended as a replacement for conventional backup operations, but does allow disaster recovery protection for large file systems for which conventional backup methods are impractical.
  • Enhanced business continuity and disaster recovery support for VMware Consolidated Backup environments

Building on the VMware Consolidated Backup enhancements delivered in previous releases of Tivoli Storage Manager, Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 now provides a full image backup of virtual machines for enhanced business continuity and disaster recovery.

  • Enhanced Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition disaster recovery manager support for active-data pools

To restore your client systems more quickly and efficiently, you can now use active-data pools in your recovery plans and procedures. Active-data pools are storage pools that contain only active versions of client backup data. Similar to the current support for copy storage pool volumes, disaster recovery manager lets you do the following for active-data pool volumes:

    • Specify the names of active-data pool volumes to be managed by disaster recovery manager
    • Recycle on-site and off-site active-data pool volumes according to server policies and processes
    • Include active-data pool volumes in the scripts, macros, and documentation that are part of the recovery plan file
    • Track and manage active-data pool media as required by your operations
  • Support for the IBM General Purpose File System (GPFS™) for storage pool usage and LAN-free access

This allows for storage agents and servers to access FILE devclass storage from multiple physical systems on the LAN. The use of GPFS allows backup traffic to be taken off of the LAN and moved to a SAN environment. This helps reduce server utilization and enables more concurrent operations by distributing them across multiple storage agents. Tivoli Storage Manager for Storage Area Networks V6.1 is required to take advantage of this capability.

Enhanced licensing for virtualized environments

Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 supports IBM sub-capacity licensing terms and conditions for IBM Passport Advantage® customers. Sub-capacity licensing is an excellent compliment to Processor Value Unit (PVU) licensing. The PVU metric provides a fair price for value received, and is based on the performance capacity of one processor core. Sub-capacity licensing lets you license to a subset of the server capacity, down to one core, by leveraging eligible virtualization technologies. As x86 architecture multicore chips (for example, from Intel® and AMD) add more cores per chip, you can use sub-capacity licensing to reduce the number of cores licensed. As RISC-based servers continue to become more powerful, you can leverage virtualization technologies to optimize your system design and help improve your overall total cost of ownership.

Enhancements in V6.1 for selected Tivoli Storage Manager products

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Advanced Copy Services V6.1 and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Copy Services V6.1

Tivoli Storage Manager for Copy Services and Tivoli Storage Manager for Advanced Copy Services can help protect your mission-critical data that requires 24 x 7 availability. They offer ready-to-use, application consistent, product-based solutions designed to implement high-efficiency backup and restore processes for business-critical applications, and help to eliminate backup-related performance impact on the production host. By integrating hardware and software-based snapshot capabilities with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager and its data protection components for Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, IBM DB2 UDB, Oracle, and SAP, you can help manage your snapshot backup operations and leverage the performance, scheduling, and media management functions of Tivoli Storage Manager to help ensure that your application servers are operational 24 hours a day.

Tivoli Storage Manager for Copy Services provides the integration with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) and VSS providers for snapshots. Tivoli Storage Manager for Advanced Copy Services provides the integration with IBM FlashCopy® as supported by IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC), IBM System Storage DS6000™, IBM System Storage DS8000™, and other snapshot mechanisms.

In today's business world, application servers often are operational 24 hours a day. The data on the application servers should be well protected. With the rapid increase in the amount of data on these servers, their critical business needs, and the shrinking backup windows, traditional backup and restore methods may be reaching their limits in meeting your challenging requirements. Snapshot operations can help minimize the impact caused by backups. Since a snapshot operation typically takes much less time than the time for a tape backup, the window during which the application must be aware of a backup can be reduced. The snapshots can be retained as backups on local disk, sent to Tivoli Storage Manager server storage pools, or both.

New in Tivoli Storage Manager Advanced Copy Services:

  • Enhanced Oracle application snapshot support when used in conjunction with the IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC), IBM System Storage DS6000, IBM System Storage DS8000, IBM XIV Storage System, IBM N series NAS, and NetApp NAS. Enhancements include:
    • Support for multiple snapshot versions
    • Support for FlashCopy of a single mirror set in LVM mirrored environments
    • Support for IBM XIV Storage System snapshots
  • Support for FlashCopy restore onto a Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) source volume. PPRC is a continuous disk-based mirroring function typically used for environments requiring high availability disaster recovery.
  • Enhanced snapshot support for SAP environments. Through integration with the Backint interface, integration of Tivoli Storage Manager Advanced Copy Services snapshot functionality into conventional backup procedures in SAP is simplified.
  • Enhanced backup performance via incremental FlashCopy support for the IBM SAN Volume Controller. Tivoli Storage Manager for Advanced Copy Services now exploits incremental FlashCopy. This can eliminate the need to perform a full background copy of the source data for each FlashCopy image that is created. After the initial FlashCopy image is created, only the changed blocks will be copied to the same set of target volumes, improving backup performance.

New in Tivoli Storage Manager for Copy Services:

  • Updates to take advantage of the enhancements in Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail V6.1.
  • The hardware integration module, previously shipped with Tivoli Storage Manager, has been removed. It is now included with the Tivoli Storage Manager Backup-Archive client.

Companion products

Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 customers may want to consider purchasing IBM Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack. Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack is completely complementary with Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1. The progressive incremental backup methodology of Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack is entirely consistent with Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1's methodology and value proposition of helping you minimize the amount of data requiring backup by copying changed data only. In addition, if you desire to add tape to your Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack environment, you can effectively back up your Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack solution directly to Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1. Then, Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 will take over tiered storage management of Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack data to help reduce cost and assimilate backup processing of enterprise data.

Many Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack customers have already implemented this exact scenario of supplementing their Tivoli Storage Manager environment in the data center with a Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack solution in remote branch offices, or a Tivoli Storage Manager Fastback solution for specific mission-critical servers where continuous data protection is desired.

Tivoli Storage Manager customers may consider purchasing IBM Tivoli Continuous Data Protection (CDP) for Files. Tivoli CDP for Files is a real-time, continuous data protection solution specifically designed for laptops and desktops. Tivoli Storage Manager can be used with Tivoli CDP for files to provide off-machine protection when a user is connected, so real-time backups still occur. Tivoli Storage Manager provides off-site copies of backup data for vaulting, auditable disaster recovery plan, and tape and media management.

Customers who have a SAN environment may consider purchasing IBM TotalStorage® Productivity Center in addition to Tivoli Storage Manager. The customer can benefit from the ability to more fully manage their storage environment, including backup and recovery, management of disk performance, management of the physical network of the SAN, logical connections between the devices, and capacity management of file systems and databases. Additionally, IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Data complements Tivoli Storage Manager. The customer who leverages these products will benefit from the ability to extend policies and file reports to directly initiate a Tivoli Storage Manager's backup or archive when certain threshold conditions are met, or in the case of file reports, if conditions deem it necessary.

Limitations

Libraries that have more than four drives or more than 48 tape slots require the Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition license.

IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing

IBM Tivoli software products are priced using IBM Tivoli's Enhanced Value-Based Pricing. The Enhanced Value-Based Pricing system is based upon the IBM Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model, which uses a managed-environment approach -- whereby price is determined by what is managed rather than the number and type of product components installed. For example, all servers monitored with IBM Tivoli's monitoring product (IBM Tivoli Monitoring) require entitlements sufficient for those servers. Other IBM Tivoli products may manage clients, client devices, agents, network nodes, users, or other items, and are licensed and priced accordingly.

Unlike typical systems management licensing models that require entitlements of specific software components to specific systems, the IBM Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model provides the customer flexibility to deploy its IBM Tivoli software products within its environment in a manner that can address and respond to the customer's evolving architecture. That is, as the architecture of a customer's environment changes, the customer's implementation of IBM Tivoli software can be altered as needed without affecting the customer's license requirements (as long as the customer does not exceed its entitlements to the software).

Under Enhanced Value-Based Pricing, licensing and pricing of server-oriented applications are determined based upon the server's use in the customer's environment. Typically, such applications are licensed and priced in a manner that corresponds to each installed and activated processor of the server managed by the IBM Tivoli application to help correlate price to value while offering a simple solution.

For servers with physical or logical (sometimes called virtual) partitions, entitlements are required for all installed and activated processors on the server. For each IBM Tivoli application managing a clustered environment, licensing is based on the cumulative number of installed and activated processors on each server in the cluster.

Enhanced Value-Based Pricing recognizes the convergence of RISC/UNIX and Microsoft Windows/Intel technologies, in order to simplify the customers licensing requirements, and to provide a smoother, more scalable model. Pricing and licensing does not differentiate between non-System z server platforms or operating systems. For some products, this platform neutrality extends to System z® and other host servers as well.

IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing terminology definitions

Client device or client

A client device is a computer system that requests the execution of a set of commands, procedures, or applications from another computer system that is typically referred to as a server. Multiple client devices may share access to a common server. A client device generally has some processing capability or is programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to, notebook computers, desktop computers, desk side computers, technical workstations, appliances, automated teller machines, point-of-sale terminals, tills and cash registers, and kiosks.

Engine

An engine is also referred to as a central processor (CP) or processor. Engines for traditional workloads are called General Purpose CPs. Engines for Linux workloads are called Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) engines or Linux-only engines. Engines for Coupling Facility workloads are called Integrated Coupling Facility (ICF) engines.

IBM IFL

This optional facility enables additional processing capacity exclusively for Linux workload, with no effect on the model designation of a System z or S/390® server. Consequently, executing Linux workload on the IBM IFL will not, in most cases, result in any increased IBM software charges for z/OS, OS/390®, VM, VSE, or TPF operating systems/applications. There is, as indicated, a charge associated with the IFL, and there may also be a charge for applications which run on the IFL. The IFL may be dedicated to a single Linux-mode logical partition or it may be shared by multiple Linux-mode logical partitions. Installations should note that the Linux workspace enabled by this facility will not support any of the S/390 traditional operating systems (OS/390, TPF, VSE, or VM). Only Linux applications or Linux operating in conjunction with the Virtual Image Facility, an environment that operates within a logical partition or in native S/390 mode and provides the capability to create multiple Linux images, are supported by the IBM S/390 Integrated Facility for Linux.

Managed processor (charging under full capacity in the managed environment)

Charges are based on the active processors on the machines in the computing environment affiliated with the program rather than on the server where the program is run. The managed processors which require Proofs of Entitlement (PoE) are defined in the Charges section of the announcement or in the License Information's program unique terms.

Notes:

  1. IBM defines a physical processor in a computer as a functional unit that interprets and executes instructions. A physical processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and logic units.
  2. Multicore technology allows two or more processors (commonly called cores) to be active on a single silicon chip. With multicore technology, IBM considers each core to be a physical processor. For example, in a dual-core chip, there are two physical processors residing on the single silicon chip.
  3. The program may not run on some or all of the processors for which PoEs are required for the program's valuation method.
  4. In the System z IFL environment, each IFL engine is considered a single physical processor.
  5. Threading, a technique that makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does not affect the count of physical processors.
  6. Where blade technology is employed, each blade is considered a separate server and charging is based upon the total number of processors on the blades with which the program is affiliated.
  7. Not all processors require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To determine the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the processor value unit conversion table on the Passport Advantage Web site
    http://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage

Processor (per processor charging under full capacity)

In full capacity charging, PoEs must be acquired for all activated "processors" (available for use) that are on the server where the program or a component of the program is run.

Notes:

  3. In System z IFL environment, each IFL engine is considered a single physical processor.
  4. Threading, a technique that makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does not affect the count of physical processors.
  5. Where blade technology is employed, each blade is considered a separate server and charging is based upon the total number of processors on the blade on which the program is run.
  6. When a server is shipped with six processors, but two of them are inactive, four processors are active for the customer.
  7. Not all processors require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To determine the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the processor Value Unit conversion table on the Passport Advantage Web site
    http://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage

Server

A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more user and/or client devices over a network. A PoE must be obtained for each server on which the program or a component of the program is run or for each server managed by the program. Where blade technology is employed, each blade is considered a separate server.

Terabytes

One terabyte of managed storage = 2 raised to the power of 40 bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes

IBM Tivoli Storage HSM for Windows Terabyte (TB) Capacity - Includes primary HSM disk storage pool size combined with the amount of utilized HSM removable media storage pool. Storage pools are configured on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server.

IBM System Storage Archive Manager Terabyte (TB) Capacity - Includes primary disk storage pool size combined with the amount of utilized primary removable media storage used by the IBM System Storage Archive Manager server.

Capacity notes

  • Capacity does not include:
    • Copy storage pools for the space-managed data that reside on disk.
    • Copy storage pools for the space-managed data that reside on removable media.
    • Space used on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server for any purpose other than the primary storage of space-managed data.
    • Disk on the host being space managed.
  • A virtual tape library (VTL) is considered a removable media device, so capacity is based on utilization.
  • The minimum amount of capacity that can be purchased is 1 TB.
  • Partial capacity will be rounded up to the next whole number of TB.
  • Additional capacity must be added in increments of 1 TB

Standby or backup systems

For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations: cold, warm, and hot. In the cold and warm situations, a separate entitlement for the copy on the backup machine is normally not required and typically no additional charge applies. In a hot backup situation, the customer needs to acquire another license or entitlements sufficient for that server. All programs running in backup mode must be solely under the customer's control, even if running at another enterprise's location.

As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the program used for backup purposes.

Cold - A copy of the program may reside, for backup purposes, on a machine as long as the program is not started. There is no additional charge for this copy.

Warm - A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is "idling", and is not doing any work of any kind. There is no additional charge for this copy.

Hot - A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine, is started, and is doing work. The customer must acquire a license or entitlement(s) for this copy and there will generally be an additional charge.

Doing work, includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files, synchronization of programs, data or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource, and so on), or any activity or configurations that would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch over between programs, databases, or other resources to occur.

In the case of a program or system configuration that is designed to support a high availability environment by using various techniques (for example, duplexing, mirroring of files or transactions, maintaining a 'heartbeat', active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource, and so on), the program is considered to be doing work in the hot situation and a license or entitlement must be purchased.

Value Units

A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurements are processor cores and MSUs. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as Servers, users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for your specific implementation of the given program must be obtained from a conversion table associated with the program. You must obtain a PoE for the appropriate number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements of a given program cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program. Whenever the designated measurement is a processor core, not all processors require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To determine the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the processor value unit conversion table on the Passport Advantage Web site

http://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage

Passport Advantage

Through the Passport Advantage Agreement, customers may receive discounted pricing based on their total volume of eligible products, across all IBM brands, acquired worldwide. The volume is measured by determining the total Passport Advantage points value of the applicable acquisitions. Passport Advantage points are only used for calculating the entitled Passport Advantage discount.

To determine the required Tivoli product configuration under Passport Advantage, the Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing Model applies. The customer's environment is evaluated on a per-product basis.

Use the following two-step process to determine the total Passport Advantage points value:

  1. Analyze the customer environment to determine the number of charge units for a product. The quantity of each product's part numbers to be ordered is determine by that analysis.
  2. Order the Passport Advantage part numbers. A Passport Advantage point value, which is the same worldwide for a specific part number regardless of where the order is placed, is assigned to each Tivoli product part number. The Passport Advantage point value for the applicable part number multiplied by the quantity for that part number will determine the Passport Advantage points for that Tivoli product part number. The sum of these Passport Advantage points determines the Passport Advantage point value of the applicable Tivoli product authorizations which then may be aggregated with the point value of other applicable Passport Advantage product acquisitions to determine the total Passport Advantage points value.

The discounted pricing available through Passport Advantage is expressed in the form of Suggested Volume Prices (SVPs), which vary depending on the SVP level. Each SVP level is assigned a minimum total Passport Advantage point value, which must be achieved, in order to qualify for that SVP level.

Media packs and documentation packs do not carry Passport Advantage points and are not eligible for SVP discounting.

For additional information on Passport Advantage, refer to the following Web site

http://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage

The following Passport Advantage part number categories may be orderable:

  • License and Software Subscription and Support 12 Months - this is the product authorization with maintenance to the first anniversary date.
  • Software Subscription and Support Annual Renewal - this is the Software Subscription and Support renewal for one anniversary that applies when a customer renews their existing coverage period prior to the anniversary date at which it expires.
  • Software Subscription and Support Reinstatement 12 Months - this is for customers who have allowed their Software Subscription and Support to expire, and later wish to reinstate their Software Maintenance.
  • Media packs - these are the physical media, such as CD-ROMs, that deliver the product's code.
  • Documentation packs - these contain printed documentation such as the User's Guide and Release Notes.

Tivoli Storage Manager pricing examples (processor and processor Value Unit based)

The following examples are provided to illustrate the customer's licensing requirements.

References to processor-based licensing do not represent the actual number of entitlements required. Entitlement requirements are Value Unit-based. Processors referenced in these examples represent the designated measurement on which the required number of Value Unit entitlements will be calculated. The number of Value Units required per processor will depend on the processor type. For more information refer to the Value Unit definition in the IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing terminology definitions. To determine the number of Value Unit entitlements required per processor, refer to the processor Value Unit conversion table on the Passport Advantage Web site

http://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage

Notes:

  • License entitlements for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition are required for all managed servers including the managing server. Licensing is Processor Value Unit based and both full-capacity and sub-capacity licensing is offered.
  • License entitlements for client devices (laptops, desktops, technical workstations) are required for all client devices being managed. Licensing is per client device. Client devices require either the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client device license or IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition client device license.
  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager supports tape libraries (including virtual tape libraries) up to and including four drives or 48 slots. A PoE for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition is required to use any of the following support: disaster recovery manager, Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP), support of tape libraries (including virtual tape libraries) with more than four drives or more than 48 slots, or Storage Pool Data Deduplication.
  • Client device entitlements (notebooks, desktops, technical workstations) for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition are interchangeable.
  • An IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server cannot be used to manage IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition components or clients.
  • An IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition server cannot be used to manage IBM Tivoli Storage Manager components or clients.
  • An IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server can communicate with and send data to an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition server.
  • An IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition server can communicate with, and send data to, an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server.
  • All NAS devices, that are being backed up, must be licensed.
  • If the NAS device is backed up using NDMP, entitlement for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition is required.
  • If the NAS device is backed up using Common Internet File System (CIFS) or Network File System (NFS), entitlement for either IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition or IBM Tivoli Storage Manager is required, depending on the entitlement required for your environment.
  • An IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Storage Area Networks license is required for each IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server that is sharing a library where an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager acts as the library manager. A license is required for each library client and library manager. An IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Storage Area Networks license is required for each system that performs LAN-free operations.

The following customer network (referred to as the core environment) applies to all of the examples to enable the reader to see where products tend to manage something less than the entire environment. The customer's overall core environment includes:

Distributed servers

  • 20 uniprocessors
  • 65 2-way servers
  • 12 4-way servers
  • One 8-way server
  • One 12-way server with two virtual or logical partitions
  • One 14-way server
  • One 16-way Sun Ultra server with two 8-way physical partitions (only one of which is managed by IBM Tivoli applications)
  • One 24-way server
  • One z800 server with two uniprocessor IFLs running Linux (for example, Linux on System z)

Note: Linux on System z offerings may not be available for all IBM Tivoli products. This licensing example assumes such availability. Linux on System z offerings have distinctly orderable part numbers in Passport Advantage and should be used when ordering entitlements for IFLs running Linux.

If pricing products without a Linux on System z offering, you should exclude the z800 server entitlement requirement indicated below.

The customer wants to manage the applicable distributed server environment, which requires Value Unit entitlements associated with the following number of processors:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
| Systems managed | Quantity in | Processors |
| | customer | to be licensed|

Migration examples

Customers who purchased IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention were charged a flat per-processor fee. That original purchase was not bound to any amount of capacity. If the customer wants to add an an additional processor to their existing IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention server, they will need to do so under the new pricing model. If the customer wants to add a new IBM System Storage Archive Manager server, this would be done as a new purchase following the examples above and no migration would be necessary.

For migration purposes, customers will be granted 16 TB of IBM System Storage Archive Manager for each processor they purchased of Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention.

Migration example 1

A customer originally purchased one processor of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention. The amount of capacity on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention server is 12 TB. As part of the migration, the customer would be granted the entitlement to manage 16 TB of IBM System Storage Archive Manager. In this example, the customer could manage an additional 4 TB without purchasing any additional entitlements.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
|Capacity managed |TB quantity in customer |TB entitlements |
| |environment |required |

Sub-capacity licensing is available for Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 distributed products available through Passport Advantage on a Processor Value Unit basis. IBM software products implement IBM License Metric Tool within their offerings so that you can monitor and report quarterly to IBM on the use of the programs on a continuous basis.

More information can be found on the Passport Advantage Web site

Eligibility requirements for sub-capacity licensing

To be eligible for sub-capacity licensing terms on these products, you must agree to install and configure IBM License Metric Tool and to enable the collection of program use data on all eligible machines subject to sub-capacity terms.

For those machines running programs with sub-capacity licensing terms, you must use IBM License Metric Tool to monitor program use and submit to IBM an IBM Use Report each calendar quarter. Multiple copies of IBM License License Metric Tool are not required. You can use more copies if you need them to support your operational environment, but only one copy is required to monitor all of your sub-capacity licensed products.

If this is the first product you have licensed under Passport Advantage sub-capacity terms, you must agree to the terms of an attachment to your Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express contract and submit a new Passport Advantage enrollment form. In addition, first-time sub-capacity customers have an opportunity to ensure a primary business contact is established for their contracts.

If you order (these products) under sub-capacity terms, IBM License Metric Tool will be made available to you if you do not already have one. You must install and configure this tool for your sub-capacity products. Once the license manager software is installed, you will be required to register online. (IBM may need to contact you in order to finalize the registration process.) You must monitor program use on a continuous basis with IBM License Metric Tool and submit IBM Use Reports to IBM on a calendar quarterly basis.

IBM License Metric Tool is documented in the following customer publications, which are available from IBM Publications Center at

Ordering information for Passport Advantage

Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Subscription and Support (S&S) renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. New software purchases will initially include twelve full months of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance). Software Subscription and Support in the second year (the first year of renewal) can be prorated to be coterminous with your common anniversary date. Thereafter, all Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) will renew at the common anniversary date for twelve full months of Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance).

Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software Support Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance).

Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance)

Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) is included with each product authorization acquired. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) provides an easy and effective way by which the user has access, during the coverage period, to eligible new versions and releases and to remote technical support for the user's covered products.

The technical support included in Software Maintenance provides remote support during normal business hours in the user's country or location as well as access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems.

With Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance), the user receives the following technical support benefits:

  • Telephone access and/or electronic access via the Web to an IBM Customer Support Center.
  • Support for routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions and code-related problems.
  • Support during normal country business hours, namely prime shift hours, Monday through Friday, excluding national or statutory holidays.
  • Support for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems during non-prime shift hours, namely all hours outside normal country business hours including national and/or statutory holidays.
  • Two hour response time objective during prime shift for voice and electronic submission. The response objective for critical/emergency problems during offshift is also two hours.
  • Access to hints, tips, and frequently asked questions.
  • Access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Open Authorized Technical Caller list to submit problems to IBM Support Centers on the user's behalf. Open to any number of technical specialists within the user's IS organization. Each caller must be registered through the IBM problem submission Web site in order to submit problems. Problem submission is handled by the Site Technical Contact as listed on the Passport Advantage enrollment form.
  • eCare for Software is an initiative designed to enhance the user's electronic support experience by providing the following advantages:
    • Single view of IBM distributed software that includes easy/integrated access to the following information and functions:
    • Comprehensive electronic (via the Web) self-help capabilities available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
    • Advanced search capabilities.
    • A single interface to the IBM problem submission/management system for IBM distributed software.

Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) renewals offer the user favorable pricing to continue the user coverage without interruption. Passport Advantage allows the user to have a common anniversary date for Software Maintenance renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and for related technical support) for the user's covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of the user's your Passport Advantage Agreement, recurs on an annual basis while the user's Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. However, regardless of when Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) is acquired, the coverage period for Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) is always up to the anniversary date specified in the acquisition.

Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software Maintenance Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance).

Customized Offerings for z/OS products

Product deliverables are shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®).

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery, where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery of ServerPac may help improve automation and software delivery time. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

http://www.software.ibm.com/ShopzSeries

Media type for this software product is chosen during the Customized Offerings ordering process. Based on your customer environment, it is recommended that the highest possible density tape media is selected. Currently offered media types are:

  • CBPDOs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • ServerPacs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*
  • SystemPacs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 3592*

*3592 is highest density media. Selecting 3592 will ship the fewest number of media.

Once a product becomes generally available, it will be included in the next ServerPac and SystemPac monthly update.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after inclusion in ServerPac.
  • SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after inclusion in SystemPac due to additional customization, and data input verification.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
