New features of IBM WebSphere MQ for z/VSE V3.0 include support for:
- API crossing exits
API exits let you write code that changes the behavior
of WebSphere MQ
API calls, such as MQPUT and MQGET, and then insert that code immediately
before or immediately after those calls. The insertion is automatic; the queue
manager drives the exit code at the registered points. On VSE, WebSphere MQ
supports a chain of up to eight API exits.
- Chained message exit
Channel-exit programs are called at defined places
in the processing carried out by Message Channel Agent (MCA) programs. These
are the communications that facilitate remote queuing to other queue managers
and client connectivity. On VSE, WebSphere MQ supports a chain of up
to eight send, receive, and message exits.
- WebSphere MQ
Explorer in WebSphere MQ
Queue Managers V6 and V7 to display and manage both V2.1.2 and V3.0 VSE queue
managers
WebSphere MQ
for Windows® and WebSphere MQ
for Linux® (x86
platform) include an administration interface called the WebSphere MQ
Explorer to perform administration tasks as an alternative to using control
or MQSC commands. The WebSphere MQ Explorer presents information in a
style consistent with that of the Eclipse framework and the other plug-in
applications that Eclipse supports. This interface is enhanced to support
remote administration of both MQSeries® for VSE V2.1.2 and WebSphere MQ
for z/VSE V3.0.
- Channel batch interval
The channel batch interval is a period of time,
in milliseconds, during which the channel will keep a batch open even if there
are no messages on the transmission queue. The batch interval enhances customer
control of sender and server channel operation in terms of performance, and
resource use by potentially avoiding premature end-of-batch processing.
- Miscellaneous performance enhancements
WebSphere MQ for z/VSE V3.0 introduces
performance improvements specifically in the area of MQI operation. Logic
paths and the use of resources have been reduced to improve message throughput.
- Server and requester channels
Server and requester channels are additional
channel types that allow queue managers to request messages from remote systems,
rather than wait for those systems to activate the flow. This means messages
can accumulate on a remote system until they are needed by the queue manager.
Accessibility by people with disabilities
A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) containing
details on accessibility compliance can be requested at
- http://www.ibm.com/able/product_accessibility/index.html
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act
WebSphere MQ
for z/VSE is
capable as of December 19, 2008, when used in accordance with IBM's associated
documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of
the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the
product properly interoperates with it. A US Section 508 Voluntary Product
Accessibility Template (VPAT) can be requested via IBM's Web site

The IBM WebSphere MQ
family provides a universal messaging backbone for SOA. As a member of the IBM WebSphere MQ
family of messaging products, WebSphere MQ for z/VSE extends
the reach of IBM's SOA messaging backbone to the specific z/VSE computing
platform.
- IBM WebSphere MQ,
the foundation for application connectivity, is the reliable, proven messaging
backbone for SOA connectivity, as the universal, multipurpose data transport.
It connects virtually any commercial IT system, with support for more than
80 platform configurations. WebSphere MQ supports industry-standard Java Message
Service (JMS) and offers a choice of APIs. WebSphere MQ interoperates with JMS
messaging services embedded in WebSphere Application Server, extending
its reach to non-JEE environments. WebSphere MQ delivers a flexible connectivity
solution that can grow incrementally with changing business needs.
- IBM WebSphere MQ
for z/OS® exploits
the platform-specific capabilities of the IBM System z® platform to deliver a messaging
powerhouse.
- IBM WebSphere MQ
for HP OpenVMS, IBM WebSphere MQ
for HP NonStop Server, and WebSphere MQ for z/VSE all extend the reach of WebSphere MQ
to these specific computing platforms.

IBM has
transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help
you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled
solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the
service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed
to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem
resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate,
but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic
Services Agent.
The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that
replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services
and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources
for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic
Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server.
It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic,
client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically
reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to
deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and
performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent
is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer
your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic
Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service
for your IBM server.
