Overview
Bottom rule

The IBM FileNet Business Activity Monitor (FN BAM) is a functional expansion to IBM FileNet Business Process Manager and part of the IBM FileNet Active Content Edition, a business process management suite. The FN BAM offering provides visibility into the effectiveness of business processes and overall organizational performance by correlating multiple events data streams, monitoring effectiveness of business processes, measuring against KPIs, and automating escalations and preventive actions.

Business managers can receive alerts via customizable dashboards and automatically initiate action or workflows based on those alerts. Business managers can also analyze data and correlate it with business processes, as well as data from other enterprise applications to gain further insight into specific alerts and events. This provides the necessary context to make the right decision right at the moment, where it matters most in the business process. FN BAM allows companies to increase organizational responsiveness and better manage and reduce risk by identifying issues before they become problems, and taking immediate action to avoid threats or mitigate risks.

IBM FileNet Business Activity Monitor V4.5 delivers new reporting and dashboarding features, including:

  • Custom dashboard reports
  • Combination charts
  • Distribution charts
  • Geography map charts
  • Public watchpoints
  • Dashboard folders
  • Updated IBM FileNet BAM Projects

Description
Bottom rule

IBM FileNet Business Activity Monitor V4.5 helps business stakeholders identify issues, respond quickly and effectively, enabling them to reduce risks and costs with the following features and benefits:

  • Improves visibility of business operations and processes across the enterprise by collecting and correlating events data from various operational systems, including IBM FileNet Process Engine, WebSphere® Process Server, and other third-party applications.
  • Provides real-time business insights and monitors process effectiveness, operational performance, and corporate risk level.
  • Offers customizable dashboards, workflow, and analysis tools to help business managers quickly identify and effectively address bottlenecks, process deficiencies, and potential issues before they reach critical thresholds.
  • Supports management agility by empowering business users to create key performance indicators (KPIs), modify metrics on the fly, benchmark actual operational data against targets, and analyze performance gaps.
  • Increases organizational responsiveness, reduces risk, and lowers total cost of ownership by automating alerts and escalations, initiating workflows and corrective actions when thresholds are breached.

IBM FileNet Business Activity Monitor V4.5 includes the following components:

  • IBM FileNet BAM Projects
  • IBM Cognos Now! Dashboard
  • IBM Cognos Now! Workbench
  • IBM Cognos Now! Streaming Server
  • IBM FileNet BAM Projects Documentation CD

This release offers the following new configurable Dashboard features for business users:

  • Custom Dashboard Reports from select data sources to help business users quickly see comparisons, patterns, and trends in data from business processes and operations.
  • Combination Charts to offer extended options in how business users choose to receive and combine critical business process events and application data by combining area charts, line charts, bar charts, and dot charts on a single or dual axes.
  • Distribution Charts that display data based on plot point distributions with color variance to show an information heat grid, allowing business users to quickly view and grasp statistical significance of data in seconds.
  • Public Watchpoints to apply business rules to all users that can access and see the dashboard object, simplifying group-based rules administration and alerting team members when actual performance is at or near a target threshold.
  • Dashboard Folders to allow business users to organize BAM dashboards, dashboard objects, reports, and process diagrams into custom folders and sub-folders within the Navigation Tree for ease of information management and retrieval.

IBM FileNet Business Activity Monitor also introduces the following new IBM Cognos Now! Streaming Server capabilities, configurable in IBM Cognos Now! Workbench by BAM application specialist:

  • Updated IBM FileNet BAM Projects with more than 18 preconfigured process metrics. Users may extend the out-of-the-box capability by adding additional monitoring metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs). These metrics can be derived from the IBM FileNet Business Process Management system or from other operational information stores.
  • View Persistence for future reporting so low-latency business view data in the IBM Cognos Now! Streaming Server can be persisted to an external database management system (DBMS) for future reporting by Cognos 8 Business Intelligence or other third-party reporting tools, capturing and combining real-time events with historical data for comprehensive information view.
  • Drill Back to detail function for root cause analysis by tapping into data warehouse information at runtime, alleviating the need to replicate detailed fact data in the streaming data store so business users can drill down to details, filter, and select data view in a dashboard object.
  • Pre-fetch context data to receive data from external DBMS so it can be cached prior to an event to perform critical context data retrieval.

IBM FileNet BAM V4.5 also provides expanded currency support, including:

  • WebSphere Application Server 6.1
  • JBoss 4.2
  • WebLogic 10
  • SQL 2005
  • IBM DB2® 9.1
  • Oracle 10g

The IBM FileNet Business Activity Monitor Standard Agent is an optional expansion of IBM FileNet Business Activity Monitor and is a set of built-in connectors that allow the BAM Server to easily connect to third-party stores for inclusion in the BAM Dashboards. It provides connectivity through JDBC, JMS, WS, XML, Flat Messaging types.

IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Charge metrics definitions

The subject program has a structure for licensing and pricing designed for clarity, simplicity and unity with other products in the IBM Enterprise Content Management portfolio. The former approach relied upon licensing servers and users - with users licensed on a Named, Concurrent, eBusiness, Employee and External basis. This has been replaced with a new approach based on Value Units (VUs), with a primary focus on user access.

User Value Units (UVUs)

Three types of UVUs are available:

  1. Authorized (AUVU): For selective licensing of users who are internal to the organization. It replaces named, concurrent and ebusiness user licensing.
  2. External (XUVU): For licensing of users who are external to the organization. It replaces external user licensing and eBusiness User Licenses for certain products.
  3. Employee (EUVU): For collectively licensing all users who are internal to the organization. It replaces Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) employee licensing.

Product pricing

Each product has a fixed price per UVU. Customers license the appropriate number of UVUs to provide access to a corresponding user population.

Cumulative volume discounting

As the user quantity increases, the number of UVUs increase albeit at a slower rate. Value Unit License Conversion Tables establish the required number of UVUs for a specified number of users.

Volume discounting examples:

  • 100 authorized users require 85 AUVUs
  • 1,000 authorized users require 600 AUVUs
  • 5,000 authorized users require 2,500 AUVUs

Content Manager configuration example:

  • Content Manager AUVU price = $Y per AUVU
  • 5,000 authorized users require 2,500 AUVUs
  • Total price = $Y x 2,500

Resource Value Units

Three types of Resource-based Value Units (RVUs) are available for licensing select products and options:

  1. Pages Per Month Resource Value Units (PRVUs) are perpetual licenses to install and run the licensed program on one or more scanner stations or computer devices and to process up to a defined number of pages per calendar month.
  2. Terabyte Resource Value Units (TRVUs) are perpetual licenses to store up to a defined number of Terabytes of content on Image Services storage devices and supported P8 Fixed File Stores.
  3. Processor Value Unit (PVU) licensing for Distributed SW comprises of perpetual licenses for each processor core on which the software is deployed. More information about PVU licensing can be found at this location
    http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_ for_customers.html

Although the subject programs are now offered under a new, streamlined licensing and pricing model, the function of the products has not changed from that of previously available offerings.

Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
