IBM OmniFind Discovery Edition V8.4.1 includes a number of key functional enhancements to help deliver a richer search and navigation experience on their eCommerce Web sites and realize more ROI faster from deploying in IBM WebSphere Commerce environments. This includes an improved WebSphere Commerce integration, enhancements to the Layout Editor, and expanded platform support.

IBM Commerce Module for OmniFind Discovery Edition, currently offered as a separate chargeable component, is now also integrated with the core OmniFind Discovery Edition product at no additional charge, and includes a few key enhancements, such as improved merchandising capabilities. A new Merchandising Rules window now provides templates that make it easier for business users to create merchandising business rules to promote, cross-sell, and up-sell products. Also, a number of new business rule triggers and actions were added. This allows merchandisers to quickly customize search results and display targeted promotions for their users.

The Layout Editor is a powerful, GUI-based tool for quickly and easily customizing virtually any visual element of the end-user search application. The improved Layout Editor allows merchandisers to embed new presentation components into their applications, including AJAX links and pop-up windows for product preview, smart suggest for auto-populating user queries, and multi-select search for submitting multiple search constraints simultaneously. Other enhancements include the ability to display refinement options in a pull-down list instead of a list of links, and displaying navigation controls in a menu bar format. These new capabilities make it easier for retailers to rapidly customize and deliver high-end, search-based merchandising applications.

OmniFind Discovery Edition V8.4.1 includes support for new versions of the following operating system platforms: Red Hat Enterprise Linux® 4.0 ES, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.0. Also, the Management Console is supported on Microsoft® Windows® XP and Microsoft Windows Vista.

WebSphere Commerce integration enhancements

OmniFind Discovery Edition V8.4.1 provides the following enhancements to the OmniFind Discovery Edition integration for WebSphere Commerce:

Commerce layout for code customization

  • This layout is designed for users who want to customize their layout by directly editing the JSP files instead of using the graphical interface of the Layout Editor. This layout is recommended for projects in which the user interface must strictly conform to a predetermined design.

Improvement of merchandising capabilities

The Merchandising Rules window provides templates that make it easier for business users to create merchandising business rules to promote, cross-sell, and up-sell products. In addition, the following new business rule triggers and actions were added:

  • Trigger a business rule when a specified content item is the top search result
  • Trigger a business rule based on the time and day of the week
  • Action: Specify the content items to display at the top of the results set
  • Action: Navigate directly to a specific item

Improved Management Console support for large WebSphere Commerce catalogs

You can run the Management Console in a mode that is optimized to support WebSphere Commerce catalogs that contain over 50,000 items.

Installation enhancements

The integration for WebSphere Commerce is now included in the OmniFind Discovery Edition installation wizard. You can use the installation wizard to install the integration when OmniFind Discovery Edition and WebSphere Commerce run on the same or separate computers.

Layout Editor enhancements

OmniFind Discovery Edition V8.4.1 provides the following enhancements to the Layout Editor:

Shopping layout

You can use this layout for commerce sites that do not use the integration for WebSphere Commerce. This layout is designed to be used in conjunction with the Commerce Turbo Pack. By default, the layout displays three products in each row of the search results table. You can perform comparisons between two or more products and the features of the selected products are displayed in a side-by-side rendering.

CSS editor

You can modify the existing cascading style sheet (CSS) classes or define new CSS classes by using an internal style sheet that is stored in the XML configuration file of the layout. You can also preview your changes before you save the CSS file.

Copy and paste of component configurations

You can copy the configuration of a component and re-use the component in another place in the layout.

AJAX links and pop-up windows

You can display results in a specified location in a pop-up window when a user clicks on a link or hovers the mouse over a part of the layout. For example, if a user clicks a hyperlinked manufacturer name or hovers the mouse over a product image for a particular result, the Layout Editor can display a pop-up window that contains information about all products from the specified manufacturer.

Smart suggest

You can display suggested query text in a drop-down list when a user types a query in the search box. The suggestions are displayed in categories and are sorted according to rank. The user can click on a suggestion to use it as the query term rather than continue typing.

Multi-select search

You can display a panel of refinement options and an optional text box that can be used to submit multiple search constraints simultaneously. A typical use for this style is to provide advanced search functionality. The refinement lists are rendered with check boxes for each value so that users can select multiple values by which to refine their search.

Pull-down refinement options

You can now display refinement options in a pull-down list instead of a list of links.

Refinement menus

You can display navigation controls in a menu bar format. When a user hovers over a menu item, the refinement options for that feature are displayed without refreshing the entire page.

Expanded platform support

OmniFind Discovery Edition V8.4.1 adds support for the following new platform levels:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 ES
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.0

Deprecated layouts

The ASP.NET and JSP versions of the Commerce layout have been deprecated and are no longer included in OmniFind Discovery Edition. Support for these layouts will be removed in a future release. Existing users of the JSP Commerce layout can now use the new shopping layout in the Layout Editor.

The ASP.NET and JSP versions of the Tabbed Navigation layout have been deprecated, but are still included in OmniFind Discovery Edition. Support for these layouts will be removed in a future release. Existing users of the JSP Tabbed Navigation layout can now use the default layout in the Layout Editor.

IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Specified operating environment

Hardware requirements

The exact configuration you need to support your environment with satisfactory response time will vary depending on the size of the objects you are working with and other factors. Individual display response times vary depending on workstation speed, memory, size of objects, and network and server workload. Minimum recommended configurations listed below need to be evaluated and adjusted according to your unique requirements. Disk space recommendations below are for the product installation and working space only.

The actual hard disk space required varies, depending upon your installation.

Note: The following are minimum system requirements. A detailed hardware sizing should be performed for each customer.

For OmniFind Discovery Edition, Self-Service Module, and Contact Center Module:

  • For servers based on the Intel® platform:
    • Processor: Intel x86, or equivalent, with processor speed greater than 2.8 GHz
    • Memory: 2 GB of RAM, plus 2 GB of RAM for each additional processor
  • For servers based on the UltraSparc platform:
    • Processor: Enterprise class CPU, with processor speed greater than 1.65 GHz
    • Memory: 2 GB of RAM, plus 2 GB of RAM for each additional processor

For Case Resolution Module:

  • For the server:
    • Processor: Intel x86, or equivalent, with processor speed greater than 700 MHz
    • Memory: 256 MB of RAM
    • Hard disk space: 100 MB
  • For the clients:

Customer responsibilities

Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and technical support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and technical support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

Security, auditability, and control

IBM OmniFind Discovery Edition uses the security and auditability features of the host hardware or software.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

  • The service includes the installation of the OmniFind components, configuration of one OmniFind Project with one collection utilizing up to three content sources. A subset of content will be indexed to demonstrate functionality.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor families (vendors and brands). A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on the level or tier of all processor cores activated and available for use by the Program on the server. Some programs allow licensing to less than the full capacity of the server's activated processor cores, sometimes referred to as sub-capacity licensing. For programs which offer sub-capacity licensing, if a server is partitioned utilizing eligible partitioning technologies, then a PoE must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on all activated processor cores available for use in each partition where the program runs or is managed by the program. Refer to the International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Terms or the program's License Information to determine applicable sub-capacity terms. The PVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another program.

Authorized User

Authorized User is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. An Authorized User is an individual (named or unnamed) within or outside of your enterprise. The program may be installed on one or more computers or servers and accessed by the number of users authorized by the Proof of Entitlement (PoE). Sub-capacity for selected middleware products

Sub-capacity licensing on a per processor or per Value Unit basis is available for selected middleware products. To offer sub-capacity licensing, IBM software products implement IBM Tivoli® License Compliance Manager within their offerings so that you can monitor and report quarterly to IBM on the use of the programs on a continuous basis.

Eligibility requirements for sub-capacity licensing

To be eligible for sub-capacity licensing terms on this product, you must agree to install and configure IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software, in accordance with the IBM Tivoli License Manager publications, and to enable the collection of program use data on all eligible machines subject to sub-capacity terms.

For those machines running programs with sub-capacity licensing terms, you must use IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software to monitor program use and submit to IBM an IBM Use Report each calendar quarter. Multiple copies of IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software or IBM Tivoli License Manager are not required. You can use more copies if you need them to support your operational environment, but only one copy is required to monitor all your sub-capacity licensed products.

Additionally, if this is the first product you have licensed under sub-capacity terms, you must agree to the terms of an attachment to your Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express contract and submit a new Passport Advantage enrollment form. First-time sub-capacity clients also have an opportunity to ensure a primary business contact is established for their contracts.

If you order (this product) under sub-capacity terms, IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software will be made available to you if you do not already have one. You must install and configure this tool for your sub-capacity products. Alternately, you can use Tivoli License Manager. Once the license manager software is installed, you will be required to register online (IBM may need to contact you in order to finalize the registration process.) You must monitor program use on a continuous basis with an IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software and submit IBM Use Reports to IBM on a calendar quarterly basis.

The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the Program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. Consult the IBM Software Support Handbook for further information at

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

  • For programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program.
  • For programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off CoD software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.
Authorization for use on home/portable computer

The program may be stored on the primary machine and another machine, provided that the program is not in active use on both machines at the same time. You may not copy and use this program on another computer without paying additional license fees.

Yes. Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and technical support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Handbook at

Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
