At a glance

IBM InfoSphere Global Name Recognition technology can be used to develop applications that spot fraud and other threats. It:

  • Increases precision for name processing by delivering cultural classification as a range of scores for automated processing
  • Adds intelligence to automated name processing by applying business rules specific to the name's culture
  • Increases accuracy and selectivity by examining each possible name, rather than using a key-based approach
  • Increases usefulness of search results by delivering matched names in ranked order with a confidence score for automated processing
  • Reduces false positives by intelligently processing the cultural variations found in names

Overview

IBM InfoSphere Global Name Recognition (GNR) V3.2 delivers packaging and licensing enhancements.

  • Transliteration capabilities are being integrated into Global Name Management, Global Name Analytics, and Global Name Scoring, and will no longer be available separately.
  • InfoSphere GNR packaging is simplified with multiple charge components beneath a single Program ID (PID). This allows for easier searching through a single PID structure, making all parts viewable at one time.

Refer to the Packaging section for a mapping of current V3.1 packaging to the new simplified packaging.

  • Licensing for Global Name Management, Global Name Scoring, and Global Name Analytics is changing from a cost per server licensing model to a Resource Value Unit licensing model that enables you to obtain deeper discounting when making larger server purchases.
  • The Resource Value Unit pricing model allows for a tiered pricing approach and helps you make purchasing decisions to support your deployment needs.

Refer to the table in the Charge metrics definitions section that shows the relationship between servers and Resource Value Units.

  • No pricing model or pricing changes are being made to the IBM Global Name Reference Encyclopedia. It will continue to be sold on an Authorized User basis as currently.

InfoSphere GNR consists of a set of best-of-breed, name-recognition, and name-matching technologies that solve the complex problem of searching and managing personal name data in a multicultural, error-prone world. The technologies can be used to develop applications that spot fraud and other threats. The software takes into account alternative spellings, cultural nuances, and other linguistic issues in an attempt to return the most relevant information for a search query. This saves the user the time and expense of evaluating a long list of imprecise matches.

InfoSphere GNR technologies include:

  • IBM Global Name Management V3.2
  • IBM Global Name Analytics V3.2
  • IBM Global Name Scoring V3.2
  • IBM Global Name Reference Encyclopedia V3.2

Description

IBM Global Name Management V3.2

Global Name Management delivers a best-of-breed suite of name-analysis and name-matching technologies designed to address the specific needs and demands of managing, searching, scoring, and matching multicultural name data sets. It consists of the complete analytic and scoring capabilities.

While most traditional name-recognition software is designed to manage and score data assets in westernized, romanized cultures, Global Name Management was designed using a unique knowledge base of multicultural names. This knowledge base consists of the global linguistic knowledge and expertise gained from 20 years of linguistic research and the analysis of nearly a billion names from across the world.

Working from this knowledge base, GNR delivers a suite of tools designed to meet the unique demands of managing data sets from cultures as diverse as Anglo/European, Arabic, Chinese, Hispanic, French, German, Indian, Korean, Pakistani, Russian/Slavic, Thai, Japanese, West African, and more.

Global Name Management leverages name data from around the world and builds culture-specific methods to deliver the best matching, management, parsing, and scoring results. Global Name Management is an industry-leading technology that helps users search, analyze, and manage multicultural names to screen potential threats, perform background checks, and handle other mission-critical name data functions across multiple geographies and cultures.

IBM Global Name Analytics V3.2

Global Name Analytics is a best-of-breed suite of name-analysis technologies that addresses the needs and demands of managing multicultural name data sets. By determining the cultural classification of a personal name, it provides accurate linguistic and statistical analyses of names, including:

  • Recognizing gender, based on frequency information
  • Determining which part of a name in likely to be the given name or surname
  • Generating attested alternative Roman spellings of a name

IBM Global Name Scoring V3.2

Global Name Scoring is a technology for orthographic and phonetics-based search and scoring of multicultural names in a database. Names can be matched even when they manifest spelling and cultural variations, are related by sound but not by spelling, or are altered by spelling or other data entry errors. The rampant name variation introduced by transliteration and pronunciation of unfamiliar names from around the globe can be handled by Global Name Scoring.

Global Name Scoring improves the accuracy and quality of identity-verification initiatives by providing ranked name search results based on the orthographic, phonetic, and syntactic patterns of names. Default search routines are supplemented with culture-specific rules and information, drawing from an international knowledge base derived from nearly a billion names and more than 20 years of research. An industry-leading technology, it lets users search, analyze, and manage multicultural names to screen potential threats, perform background checks, and handle other mission-critical name data functions across multiple geographies and cultures.

IBM Global Name Reference Encyclopedia V3.2

This easy-to-use interactive encyclopedia focuses on information about names from countries and cultures around the globe. For each of the 14 featured types of names, it provides detailed culture-specific information about spelling and syntax patterns, the words and particles contained in the names, commonly used names, titles, and so on. The encyclopedia also returns information about particular names entered by the user. It is a stand-alone offering that leverages a vast store of cultural and linguistic knowledge based on the study of nearly a billion names from every country in the world.

IBM Global Name Reference Encyclopedia improvements:

  • User interface
  • Upgraded version of Windows®
  • Culturally sensitive name entry support, handling more than just the "given name, surname" form

Transliteration for InfoSphere Global Name Recognition

These capabilities are being integrated into Global Name Management, Global Name Scoring, and Global Name Analytics. They enable the InfoSphere Global Name Recognition technologies to recognize and process names written in the standard Arabic, Cyrillic, and Greek scripts. The application may accept names from languages written with these scripts in their native-script form. Input files can be made up entirely of non-Roman characters, of all ASCII characters (Roman script), or of a mixture of characters.

IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Charge metrics definitions

Value Unit

A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users or resources which may include servers, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a PoE for the calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.

Resource Value Units apply when resources other than processors are the unit of measure. The following table shows the relationship between servers and Resource Value Units:

                                              Resource Value
Usage level -- Minimum Maximum Units per
cumulative servers servers server

1 1 1 200
2 2 2 118
3 3 6 63
4 7 60 44
5 61 NA 8

Authorized user

An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your enterprise. A PoE must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user PoE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a PoE has been obtained for each individual user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.

IBM Electronic Services

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
