IBM® Rational® Migration
Extension for Natural
IBM Rational Migration Extension for Natural enables business-critical
Natural/ADABAS applications that have been transformed into the IBM Rational
Software Development Platform, specifically IBM Rational Business Developer
featuring Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) technology, to execute and
generate correctly to the chosen COBOL or Java™ runtime environment. IBM Rational Migration
Extension for Natural is a key component of the IBM Rational Enterprise Application
Modernization process, which delivers a highly automated way to leverage and
reuse Natural/ADABAS applications. This process provides a cost-effective
way to modernize and transform Natural systems, breathing new life into applications
that were considered to be on life support.
IBM Rational Migration Extension for Natural is a plugin for the IBM Rational
Business Developer V7.1 environment. The actual migration of the Natural code
and ADABAS files is performed as a service with the result being an EGL Project
(fully converted EGL source code) and DB2® schema (Oracle also supported). IBM
Rational Migration Extension for Natural allows the Natural applications that
have been transformed into EGL to execute properly as generated Java or COBOL
code.
IBM Rational Migration Extension for IBM i
IBM Rational Migration Extension for IBM i delivers a highly automated

IBM is currently extending EGL to deliver a simplified programming model
for developing Web 2.0 applications based on Ajax, JavaScript™, and HTML. This technology
will be available in second quarter 2008 as an IBM Alphaworks project.

Charge metrics definitions
Value Unit
A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements
that is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used
for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly
used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs,
there are other designated measurements such as users or resources that may
include servers, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements
required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment
and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a PoE for the
calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The
Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged,
interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.
Authorized user
An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within
or outside your enterprise. A PoE must be obtained for each individual user
accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized
user PoE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by
multiple users, provided that a PoE has been obtained for each individual
user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing
program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the
user.
Floating user
You may utilize the program, including installation of the program on multiple
servers, provided that use of the program occurs via a license server, and
the total number of concurrent users does not exceed the total number of floating
user licenses obtained for the program.
